Just received a call from Optus saying that I’ve been selected video interview for the Service Specialist role. Have never done a video interview before so any tips?

Is this a video video interview (as in like skype or similar where you're talking to the person) or a video interview where you're being recorded and questions pop up and they watch it at a later time?
Recorded
Oh right, usually they have a test question before you start, some companies let you try the test question early or free (using fake registration or something) really helps you see what its like.
For the most part, the ones I've done, its basically, a question will appear on screen, you'll be given some time to read and think, and the timer will run down and you'll have say 60 seconds or however to answer. During that time you can end early but usually not late (so the hard part is talking to the timing, but not getting too worried you go to fast etc).
Typical interview things apply, dress nice (at least your viewed part) white background, quiet room, test your video and microphone early, don't want to fail because your microphone didn't work properly or was too low.
Give yourself some time to practice, sometimes it can feel funny to 'talk to no one' for me I feel its funny to explain something to not a real person.
Don't know about this, but the ones I've done has been pretty basic questions like why do you want to work here, what are you interested in, that sort of thing. Not sure if they're leaving the better questions for the real life interview, and they're just trying to get a sense of you from the video?
Despite it being a remote interview, dress properly by wearing a suit/tie or equiv attire for a lady. It shows you are serious.
And please wear pants! I was on a teleconference call to a colleague in France once who was dressed very smartly in business attire until he got up to close the blinds behind him and we all realised that he had no pants on! Only his simpson boxer shorts. It was hilarious! 🤣 He later explained that he changed at the last minute because he was so nervous and thought wearing his "lucky" underpants would make him feel better. He still get teased about it to this day.
This is overkill IMO. A buttoned shirt is fine.
Rookie mistake. Always over dress for an interview even if you know everyone in the office wears casual attire. It's not about 'overkill' its about attitude and enthusiasm.
Agreed. Whenever there's a choice between two equal candidates even the smallest things can put you in front. Obviously don't dress the suit and tie if it's not suited to the workplace.
My tip is not to work for Optus in the first place. Unless you enjoy working under senior management who lie and have no idea how to manage, keep their workforce on edge with constant redundancies and restructuring, hire middle managers suffering from mental disorders, has a significant percentage of their staff as contractors and operates in an industry characterised by high fixed capex cost with variable revenues in a saturated market.
I did one recently. I put sticky notes around my webcam with key words and statements and covered the live recording of myself that shows on the screen, as I had a tendency to glance there. For mine, I was given some practice questions beforehand and timed which I think you should take advantage of. I had 5 questions (beforehand they estimated 15 mins video interview), each allocating between 2 to 3 mins of answering depending on the question type. I guess if you are given 2 mins, try to use at least 1.5 mins of that time, but you should not necessarily feel the need to use the full 2 mins. I think mixing up the pace, emphasising certain points and having intentional short pauses should come off well. I was given 1 min break in between questions, not sure if this was unwise but I went straight to the next question after 5 to 10 secs because I was running on adrenaline haha. trustnoone pretty much described my experience as well.
Yeah, don't do it via Optus internet.
