    Could save a few dollars going without the batteries but this certainly isn't a bad deal.

The best entry-level battery charger, mine is still serving me well after 5 years. It will handle pretty much every type of battery (AA/AAA/C/D/18650) and it is a proper "smart charger" that doesn't overcharge.

  Agree with this. I have the D4 currently but wouldn't mind picking up the new I4. Especially since it has auto current selection.
