  • that is a steal for 7 Wonders Duel. Don't think I've seen it below $40 and it really is an excellent two player game.

I've been umming and ahhing about it's big brother for years, but Sushi Go is so much fun I've never bothered.

    • but Sushi Go is so much fun I've never bothered

sushi go or sushi go party?

      • +1

Party all the way, more options on gameplay plus more people can join in.

      • I disagree strongly with blahoz, I have both, and the key and crippling difference in Party is that you reshuffle the entire deck between rounds, or in other words the cards that come out in the first and second rounds no longer have any effect at all on the probability of cards coming out in subsequent rounds - which makes the whole thing far less interesting in my opinion.

The original on the other hand comes with one massive deck that you only shuffle once at the beginning of the game (played over three rounds). So the distribution of cards in general can vary much more significantly.

        • Couldn't you apply the same role for sushi go party?

          • @AncientWisdom: I believe with sushi go party, you can play sushi go (the light version)

It is because there is a lot more variety with go party

            • @docians: Yeah I've got party, it just doesn't seem a critic big enough against it if it can just be fixed by a house rule.

          • @AncientWisdom: no, you can't.

the same types of cards as the vanilla game are represented in Party, but you only have enough of anything to play a single round - something like 30 cards.

the original Sushi Go has a deck of around 100 cards and you can't fix the difference with a house rule.

it's like playing Blackjack with one deck of cards vs 3 decks. When card distribution is at least half the game the latter is far more interesting and difficult to keep track of.

in Party it's way too easy to play whatever's good in your opening hand because you know the stuff you need is probably in play. You know so much more about the game state at all times it practically feels solved. In the vanilla game you might start with two Sashimi in hand in round 2, but if 6 or 7 of them were played the first round you might think twice. Or of course the opposite can happen and all colours in between.

obviously Party tries to make up for this by having all the different card types that you can mix and match for varieties sake, but I don't find that nearly as fun or compelling.
