  • PB at Bunnings for a further 10% off

    • Tried Bunnings won't match it because prime price only.

      • Damn might have to settle with the cashback in that case

        • I spoke to Bunnings online (they have a chat function now) and they said they'll beat it by 10%

          • @zhead13: How did you even get to the live chat?

            • @XeKToReX: I swear it just popped up, but now i'm on the bunnings website again and it doesn't come up. Weird. Can confirm Officeworks won't beat it by 5% due to Prime only. I'm just hoping i get a Bunnings employee who doesnt notice or check.

      • Bunnings at Hawthorn VIC price matched the Ring Doorbell 2. The lady just asked whether I am a Prime member and she could see from my app that I am one.

        • Could you post receipt please?

  • 12 percent cash back at shopback

Anyone own one? Do you need a subscription to use it?

    • Yes if you want to keep recordings

      • +2

Pretty frustrating that video doorbells are upselling on a subscription. With MicroSD being so cheap these days you could easily add a card slot to the rear of the product and just store the recordings on a 256gb card

        • You are absolutely correct. However, in order for these companies to recoup their ongoing R&D costs and maintain profitability, they need to follow a recurring revenue business model. This is the basis of success for most (but not all) modern technology companies.

One could argue that consumers might benefit from such economics, as this allows the manufacturer to keep on improving the product and provide new features in the future. But with products like a video doorbell, the scope of what it does it pretty narrow, why wouldn't they put the new feature in the product before they launch it?

Is there a comparable product/brand with SD slot? No monthly subscription?

        • https://www.hikvision.com/au-en/Products/Video-Intercom/Wi-F… I've been using Ritual looking into hikvision solution nvr/poe camera and noticed this, has sdcard. unclear if it can connect to the nvr

    • i use the xiaomi doorbell which doesnt have a subscription cost. it just doesnt keep the data for longer than i think a month? optional subscription service to keep all recordings.

    • Get a Reolink Argus… free cloud recording + SD Card

      • do these ever go on sale?

        • I got mine from ebay…
Supposedly have up to 38% off now for Prime day https://reolink.com/flash-sale/
Not all of them support video feed to your TV.
Also the free cloud subscription is limited to 1 device, so you need to create multiple accounts for more devices.

  • Version 1 I assume?

  • Is version 1 decent ? or should I but version 2?

    • +1

      Version 1 is decent enough…

Bunnings are now price beating this, i got one just then for $89. If they say no just tell them to ring Customer support at Head office. They are also dropping the price tomorrow to match Amazons price, but doubtful you'll get it cheaper than $89

    • Thanks! I'll check it out tonight. Office works price beat tomorrow?

  • Do people steal these of your door?

    • +1

If you live in the ghetto, maybe

  • Version 2 is $99USD in the US through Alexa. Obviously you need to ship it to a US address.

Just goes to show how much we over pay for things here.

    Echo show 5 + smart plug, $55 USD :(

  • if we buy from bunning will it have lifetime warranty? and can i get replacement from bunning if stolen?

    • You get the replacement through ring
