Original Coupon Deal

Had been looking for a bread maker so I can wake up to the sweet smell of freshly baked carby goodness.

This one seems to have good reviews and is made of quality materials. It also has a sour dough mode and can automatically dispense the yeast and fruit, which sounds handy. It's also meant to be easy to clean and have only a small paddle which means the hole it leaves in your bread is reduced.

Cheapest I can find it elsewhere is $269 at Bing Lee and Appliances Online are selling for $359!

Only bought it yesterday so I haven't actually received it, so I'm not guaranteeing the quality of your loaves. But worse comes to worse, you just put more butter on the sub-par bread- everything tastes better with butter ;)

Had mine about 3 weeks, good pizza dough, good bread (its french bread is my preference). Extremely easy to use and clean.

I have had the SD2501 for over a year now - excellent machine. This is the more expensive version that includes some extra features and a shiny stainless steel finish. Ooooh. ;-)

If this model is anything like mine, and you want the extra features, then this is a good deal. With mine, the paddle usually stays inside the machine after baking the bread, and the hole left in the loaf is not too big. The bread is excellent (in particular if you use decent fresh bread flour), and you can always use the machine to make the dough and bake it separately in the normal oven.

The only annoying thing I have found with mine is that when using the normal setting, it waits nearly an hour from when you press the start button to when it actually starts. This is intentional to allow all the ingredients time to reach room temperature, but it is annoying. You can however use the 'quick' setting to skip this, but it also reduces the amount of time for everything else so the bread is not quite as good. Still, this is of course not an issue if you set the machine to make the bread overnight. Oh, speaking of which, it's really quiet as well.

Hey there @PlasticSpaceman, Re the hole left in the centre of the loaf from leaving the paddle in during bake cycle, we have been using the Panasonic 2501 for many years, and it has never failed us. But while in our local flour shop in Greenwood WA some years ago, the elderly couple who run the place advised that we could try taking the paddle out of the baking pan after the final short knead that the machine performs prior to the last rise and then bake (on the four hour cycle there is a short knead at two hour remaining and at one hour and forty minutes, taking the paddle out after the two hour knead also produces a decent loaf). For us, using the raisin loaf setting (menu item 3), one the timer hits 01.40 (remaining time) that is also the final knead of the 4 hour cycle. Pop the dough out and remove the paddle, then pop the rising dough back into the loaf bake tray (try not to do any extra kneading while it is out of the tin).
Your loaf will still rise the same, and only have the smallest of marks on one slice from the paddle drive pillar that would have been holding that big paddle.
We really do fancy getting this stainless steel version that the OP has found, but our machine is still working fine.

      • Thanks for the suggestion - yes, I knew about the option to remove the paddle but for the most part when I make bread I set the machine to do it overnight, so am happy to cope with the hole versus getting up at 4:30am to remove the paddle… ;-)

  • +1 for the butter

we have the sd2501. once you DIY, normal bread loaves from coles/woolies don't taste anywhere as good!

do you need to finish it within 2-3 days before it went bad?

Choice has not run a comparison test on bread makers since 2017.
It’s top recommended is the Panasonic SD-2501, and the Panasonic SZ2512 came close second. It seems the higher price (RRP$399) and greater complexity of extra features reduced its rating, as the 2512 cooked whole grain bread better. That said, the 2501 did gluten free bread much better, which is important if like us you have a coeliac in the family.
