Better price than TGG, and free delivery from Myer.
    The a plus+1

  • +1

OP, both items are free delivery/postage, not +delivery.

    • thanks, wasn't sure if it was just for eBay+

  • +3

Have had one for 4 years, amazing.

  • +4

Great deal! Now just need to wait for the BES920 to be on sale somewhere…

    • +1

      Just missed $632 at TGG.

Had some smart arse the other day asking if I was selling my BNIB BES920 for $300 while enquiring about a BES870 I had for sale… blocked them due to the cheek!

      • +1

I missed it too, as soon as I see it under $700 I'll pounce. $300 is insulting!

        • +1

What did it for me was it was just after the TGG sale. As if I'd buy a $900 coffee machine for $632 JUST so I could sell it to someone else for $300 like that was my intention all along. If people can't play fair and insult my worth by offering that low I'd rather just not deal with them.

I haven't unboxed it yet, still trying to move my EM7000 on

      • I had multiple ridiculous offers when I was selling my Londinium I after upgrading to the Londinium R - it was a $3500 machine, landed cost, and I eventually sold it for about $2K. One of them had the cheek to offer me $300 - I know your pain!

Great grinder. Found one on gumtree brand new. Bought for 100$ and it still had stickers on 😂

  • +1

I use a Hario manual grinder… slow grinds preserve the flavour.

    • I got one too but I'm finding a bit of size inconsistency of late and I'm also getting a little tired due to increased usage. With 1 coffee per day it's easy. Now I got a few ppl in the household drinking at least 1 coffee and I'm grinding about 4 shots per day… It's becoming part of my exercise for the day :)

      • +2

You can use a impact driver or electric screw driver attached to the grinder uses I think a 6mm… still takes ~1 min per 15gr.
My consistency is good, I find the course settings too far apart though; for espresso I really need 1 more between the finest and 2nd finest setting.

      • +1

Get those people to grind it for you! I also have that grinder, it is great. So if you use a impact driver on your Hario is that still slow grinding? ;)

    • Myself? I love the accuracy of the BCG820, oh… and the consistency. Absolutely nothing wrong with manual and looking to go that way in the future

Whats the consensus on the smart grinder with the BES920 combo vs the all in one BES870? Worth the extra few hundred for the dual boiler?
Also I'm tossing up on waiting for amazon prime day and seeing if anything cheaper comes up there

    • +1

Recently bought the 870, couldn't recommend it highly enough. Great machine and makes an awesome coffee. I have to wait 5-10 seconds after I pour my coffee for the steam wand to be ready which feels like nothing at all. If you use that time to tap out the coffee grind puck then you haven't really wasted any time at all.

Also the Breville website had them up as RRP $599 a little while ago, so you should be seeing them on sale for <$500 more often nowadays.

    • +5

So… JUST under $800 for the BEP920 if you buy them seperately. Or $470 or so on a really good deal for the BES870.

If you have to have the best and tend to suffer upgradeitis then the BES920 is the one for you! If you just want a cup and want to feel like a barista doing it then the BES870 is for you (and price is important). Honestly the BES870 is getting old and I'd highly recommend the BES878 instead which is $639-679 depending on which way the wind blows.

The 870 is very much getting on in age design wise unfortunately.

I am quoting bargain prices so depends on what becomes available at a price point you are happy with.

BES870=If you are very tight and don't care
BES878=Best of both worlds, heats up bloody quick and the grinder is a bit more user friendly. Good all round package
BES920/BEP920: Bees knees, get this if you want the best.

That being said, refurb'ed dinged Oracle's/BES980's have been popping up on ebay for $700 posted… if you want to take some of you out of the equation

      • What does the 980 do for you over the 920?

        • +1

Grinds, tamps, polishes. Best auto frother in the business.

Honestly the boilers are interchangeable between the 920 and the 980/990 so it's more an automation thing.

          • @kronicmacstigator:

            Grinds, tamps,

Does this generate much waste? Do you mean it grinds to the basket and tamps automatically?

            • @serpserpserp: Waste? Nothing except the usual puck. Yes… grinds to basket and tamps/polishes automatically. Main difference between BES920 and BES980

              • @kronicmacstigator: I was thinking more overflow from grinding into the basket. Making a mess with ground coffee and having waste in that area.

                • @serpserpserp: From what I've heard it's bang on. Don't worry about it. Breville wouldn't ship out a 2k-3k machine if it spilt coffee grounds

      • What's the difference between the BES and BEP models?

        • +1

          BES=Single unit, BEP=Unit + BCG820 (Smart Grinder Pro)

BEP is usually $200-300 more than if you bought them seperately on special

  • Which of these would be best for chopping up veges? Eg carrots, broccoli, cucumber, onions

    • +6

      Definitely the smart grinder

      • +1

lol you prick, almost fell for that one.

    • BFP800's kick for $150-250 hardly used all the time on ebay/gumtree. If you 'need' to upgrade that the extra discs are $120 and there is an upgrade kit where you can convert it into the BFP820. Have fun

  • +2

    Nabbed a grindr, thank you.

  • Currently in the market for a food processor, which one would you all recommend? KFP1325 or BFP680BAL?

    • +1

Would go Breville all the way in that price range. I bought the BFP800 brand new for $249 but didn't use it much being by myself. The bargains are out there if you wait.

How smart is smart? Too lazy to google

Just got one from Myer with their EOFY sale, similar price (this may be a touch cheaper), have used it every day since, makes my AeroPress coffee's much much better with freshly ground beans and so far I've found the best grind setting. Off memory there is 180 or so different grind settings you can tune it to if you include adjusting the burrs, but I think I've found the best for me (AeroPress) and my wife (french press).

Highly recommended if you want a coffee grinder that actually grinds and not chops!

    • Interesting that one of you is aeropress and the other french! I would have thought you'd get very similar taste in espresso there!

  • +1

    Got the BFP680BAL, thanx OP.

    • +1

Mine arrived today, and I live in FNQ, seriously quick shipping.

  • 5+ years on how are teh BES920 going for everyone?

    • +2

O-ring failures seem to be common, $5 fix

The earlier ones are suffering build quality wise but Breville SEEM to be pretty keen to fix them. That being said, they usually aren't an expensive fix.

If you worry about it too much and not buy one because of this you are missing out. Just extend the warranty as long as possible, when it does go bang in 4-5 years time hopefully you'll get a new one or a newer model (that hasn't been released yet).

They are an insane machine for the price.

Remember the chassis is still in use for the Oracle/Oracle touch! A $3500 machine!!! With the sheer amount of ones sold the odd failure will pop up. In my opinion it's generally due to a lack of love and knowledge. That being said, when people are unlucky enough Breville know enough that it tends to be a quick, easy and cheap repair.

Would I buy one again for $632 like I just did? Would do it again in a heartbeat! You'll get more than the purchase price out of this machine over the few years. I've heard of more than a few original ones still going!

I had a very finnicky (albeit loved) Rancillio Silvia and italian grinder prior to my BES920/BEP920 combo.

The italian combo will never die, but the extra effort, the single boiler… i wouldnt go back.

I got my parents the oracle.. Not a bad machine at all. Little bit more user friendly, but it does make getting everything how you like it a little more fiddly in some ways. I also dont really like the steam wand for manual milk work. It does an okay job of milk on auto.

      • These were just on the market when I purchased new Dual Group lever for $1400 in 2012. Ive spent $500 on that in repairs as well.

  • I've had a Breville smart grinder for many years, three times+ per day, and it's still grinding well.

    • Yet still no upvote?!

  • Done, sorry.

I seem to remember that mine was over $200.

  • Grinder shows $190 for me and applying the code says "This code can't be applied to your order."

Anything I should be doing? OP mentioned this was great for double dipping…

  • Ordered yesterday, arrived today. Thanks Myer!

  • I already have a BES870 with inbuilt grinder and have for many years… If I get the seperate grinder will I notice the improved quality of grinds?

Does anyone here have the 870 and use a seperate grinder?

    • that seems like a waste of counter space having separate grinder + built-in grinder. Consider selling the 870 and buy the Bambino or 840 if you're after separate grinder but I dont see why you'd bother already owning the 870
