    Huggies Ultimate Nappies, Unisex

Here we go… Now politicising nappies…

The plumbing works differently… Even at that age.

I thought exactly the same when I first saw the Unisex label. I have a 9 month old girl and a 21 months old boy.
They are both in the same size now (don’t ask why…), but we never had issues with the nappies. I guess Huggies packed the front and middle of the nappy with the same consistency of absorbent… shrugs

the unisex just applies to the patterns on the nappy. girl ones are more girly patterns and boys more boyish patterns

          Not according to Huggies.

Because boys and girls have different absorbency needs, Huggies Nappies are designed to have absorbency where your baby needs it the most. Boys produce a greater concentration of urine at the front of the nappy where girls have a relatively even distribution of urine with a slightly higher concentration in the middle to the back of the nappy.

        • not true.

nice but how many did you buy?

    • +1

      Where did you bring them?

  • I read the other day that plastic nappies like these take 500 years to decompose. Something to consider anyway.

    • +2

      I read the other day

      Maybe stop reading fiction then…

    • We tried reusable nappies. You need to be very careful which washing powder you use else they stop absorbing (and strip cleaning didn't fix it). Until these dodgy eco companies specifically approve particular washing powders as safe you'll likely spend $500 for only 9 months of use like we did.

Ps: most companies sell press stud reusable nappies. They are inferior to Velcro ones. After trying both, why the heck the press stud ones are even made is beyond me.

      • Depending on the company and their washing recommendations but nappies are your dirtiest laundry so you need to wash properly and new guidelines are to use more powder. We haven’t had issues and have been using them for nearly 4 years with 3 kids.

Snaps makes it harder for the child to pull off the nappy and it is easier to
get a better fit than Velcro.

        • Also having tried both, no way is snaps a better fit. But harder to pull off, sure

These seem expensive. "Ultimate"? Pfft. Why are they ultimate? They all go in the bin anyway.

Unless they are better for very heavy wetters(?) and you want them at night.

Everyone has their brand preference but $10 woolies ones are better value imho.

It's like saying why bother eating expensive food. It all ends up in your stomach all digested anyways.

Anyways, as someone who is experienced with the Huggies range, there are 3 levels that vary from cheapest to most expensive being Essential, Ultra Dry and Ultimate. I found Essentials too thin and had to change a lot more frequently and didn't keep the area dry i.e. less absorbent which would cause more nappy rashes. Ultra Dry is a bit thicker than Essentials and is great for day time when you're changing every 2-4 hours depending on the "load". We use Ultimate for overnight as the baby sleeps 10-12 hours and it doesn't make sense to use a thinner nappy that either leaks or causes nappy rash because it doesn't keep the skin area dry.

I have tried Woolies Little Ones, Coles CUB, Aldi Mamia, BabyLove and the Huggies full range and Huggies works out the best in terms of what we need and price point (often pick up on sale at Costco/Amazon that works out around the same price per unit as Aldi Mamia). We also liked Baby Love but find it's less likely to be found on a large discount like Huggies. But I agree, this is each to their own.

  • I think size 4 at woolies is $20 right now ($5 off) not unisex, but they have boys or girls for that price

  • Thanks :) I have stocked up on wipes. It’s a shame I forgot about the Cashback option!
