Hold on, we don't see, eg: ForTran
on the box of this Deal

And SQL, HTML and CSS aren't programming langages, and a bunch are scripting languages.

      • And the pedant award goes to….

Technically, SQL is a query language and HTML is a markup language :-)

Edit: If we got really pedantic, in the list, the only non programming language is HTML + CSS. JS is definitely a programming language and SQL supports enough logic functionality and conditional support that it would also fit a programming language.

        • +1

SQL is Turing-complete with an implementation of a Cyclic Tag System and it is therefore equivalent to a programming language via the Church-Turing Conjecture.

          • @alvian: How about Little Big Planet? Magic the gathering is supposedly Turing complete. Mario Maker.

            • @[Deactivated]: I am not familiar with the game. If you follow the links it eventually led to this YouTube video where the uploader claimed a Game Of Life was recreated in LBP. But has the Turing machine pattern been independently verified?

          • @alvian: IIRC, HTML is also turing complete. CSS probably is too.

Fun fact: Microsoft PowerPoint is also Turing Complete ;)

            • @coldogga: Fun fact: Turing wasn't right about everything.

            • @coldogga: Standard HTML has IF statements? I did not know that, can you provide a suitable reference? Conditional branching is required for TC.

      No COBOL no deal

      • Normally I would say that is a blessing …

      • No Fortran no deal

  • so many free programming books in the last 24 hours, dont know where to start

    • +7

I can barely comprehend English let alone this jibberish

    • +1

but a lot of the books are only about 100 pages ….. I think a lot of the free books are just somebody who came up with something so their resume says "I wrote a book on programming" which looks cool at the next job interview, rather than they actually expected a book to sell and make money.

Check the Raspberry pi foundation site, they also have books on python etc and they read by lots of people getting into raspberry pi so the books get feedback and edited by a broader community support.

How can you learn a programming language in 2 hours! Unless this is some sort of Matrix like download directly into your cortex I doubt it's veracity :o)

    • +9

      10 print "Hello World"
      20 goto 10

    • -8

easy if you are Indian, hence their dominance in the IT sector.
