I would not trust to buy from MWave or Ebay to help, if there was a problem

I just bought a "Helios Hard Gaming Mouse Mat - Extra Large", mouse pad from MWave, via Ebay (Ebay Plus).

The product arrived, I opened it. The item listed as brand new, was used.

I emailed MWave straight away. Having not recieved any email of acknowledgement from the seller, I
contacted Ebay the next evening.

As it was USED, and not new as per Ebay Listing, I refused to go to the post office and post it back. If it
had been a faulty product, I wouldnt blame the seller, and would have been happy enough to
go to the post office to return it to them,.

The options I provided, were sent to MWave by Ebay as under:
* To have a replacement mouse pad be sent to you and for you to hand the original item back to the courier for it to be sent back to them
* If a replacement is not possible, still have a courier pick up the item for a full refund
* If they can't arrange a courier, then they may full refund you and you'll dispose of the item

I did not receive any acknowledgment from MWave, so next evening, I called Ebay again. They were going to call the
account manager at MWave, to look into it.

Today I received an email from MWave as under:

New message from: mwaveau (18,477YellowShooting Star)
Hi XXXX,

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Please return the product to:

Ref: Job / RA Number XXXX
REPLY PAID XXXXX
MWAVE
UNIT F3, 3 - 29 Birnie Avenue
LIDCOMBE

NSW 2141

We will attempt to process the RA for you as quickly as possible once the product is returned.

Please click on this link to read our RA terms and conditions: https://www.mwave.com.au/terms-and-conditions

(This Return Authority (RA) is only valid for seven (7) days from the date of issue).

So, they take 4 days to reply (after intervention from Ebay), then they expect me to go to the post office, then
they say they will "attempt to process the RA as soon as possible"
But I only have 7 days to return it. lololol

So I called Ebay, the lady online, without reading the earlier notes & email tells me. "It looks like you do not want to return the product".

So the supervisor comes online. He tells me I have to go to the post office to post it.

So I tell him, I will throw away the product, and They can keep the $35 too.

I wish there was a way for me to post those pics, so you could see how even a blind man could not miss the fact that it was used, before they sent it to me.

So I tell him, I will throw away the product, and They can keep the $35 too.

Such a sane thing to do

    • -4

Since it’s used I am sure it’s working and you just gonna throw it away? Yeap right

Sometimes the red mist makes people do irrational things.

My FIL was having a major dummy spit and told the local pool shop he'd never shop there again (called them f***kers and crooks, etc). 3 months later he goes back in there as he didn't want to drive the 45km to the next town to buy a $5 item. Pool shop guy recognises him (small country town) and says "mate, you said you weren't shopping here. Have some dignity and bugger off." I ROFLed

  • +14

$35 for a mouse pad? You don't need to go to post office. When it is reply paid you can drop it to any of the red post box on the street

    • +2

Won't have tracking and therefore no proof of returned goods.

      • Even reply paid won't have tracking

        • +8

To clarify, the eBay Plus return print out label has tracking, but putting it in a street box just means it isn't scanned until it is collected & gets to the first distribution centre, after which it is tracked like normal. Handing it over the counter at a PO gets it scanned straight away.

So the risk of the red box is they lose it between there and the first scan at a distribution centre. That's the only difference & your risk of no proof of return.

I've been lazy on cheap items and used a red box, just scanned it into the Auspost app on my phone first so I had the tracking number ready, it sits there greyed out pending, then 24hrs later the system recognises it properly & it is as normal.

Edit: This looks like the seller's own return shipping label, it may or may not work the same way. If they generate a label for you it likely has a tracking number that gets activated when scanned same as eBay plus. If you have to make your own label, probably no tracking unless you hand it over the counter & get the number.

        • You can get a little red tracking sticker for reply paid from the post office (and they put one on the parcel too) which can be track.

The retailer have the right to ask the customer to return the faulty good.

    • +21

So the good was not fit for purpose. The retailer still have the right to ask the customer to return the good for either a replacement or a refund.

      • So the good was not fit for purpose

Yes it was, it can still be used as a mouse pad so it was fit for purpose.

        • It was not as described. Ditto refund policy as "not fit for purpose"

          • @brad1-8tsi:

            It was not as described.

            That's correct

Ditto refund policy as "not fit for purpose"

It was still fit for purpose.

Both of those things mean different things. Just because it is one does not mean it is the other.

            • @spaceflight: You need to read properly. The word "as" is quite important in my sentence.

    • Yes it sucks to be sent the wrong item and they did take some time to get back to you but give them the benefit of the doubt and return it. Give them a chance to make it right, then come back and let us know how it went.

Also sometimes it's better to pick up the phone and call. Yeah maybe they will give you some line that you have to go through ebay, but if you persist usually you can get to someone.

I had a similar experience recently with a computer company I won't name that had an ebay store. Some seem to treat it just like their main business and some like a side business that doesn't have priority over the day to day running of their actual bricks and mortar store. With persistence and a phone call it was eventually sorted. After I realised how they prioritise their physical store over their ebay store I will no longer use their ebay store for future purchases and just go direct IF I have to buy from them in the future. It all worked out in the end and was a good lesson in patience and communication.

  • +1

Hmm usually mwave is good. Any rep here?

    • +8

mwave is good, bought $500 worth of stuff from there no issues.
OP just wants to slander the store in question and scam them for a free mousepad

      • -4

        $500 worth of stuff

        so a mid-tier cpu?

        • +1

          several mechanical keyboards

      • Yeah, I've bought… hell jeez, like $5k+ worth of stuff from them over the years including the computer I'm typing on right now. No issues.

    • +2

There will be both good and bad experiences.

We've had a bad experience, with some dodgy behaviour exhibited by mwave. We are still trying to sort the issue out, but this will be the last time we ever use them.

      Would I recommend mwave? No.

  • +6

i have to get my popcorn ready

  • +13

If the same situation happened at a brick and mortar store, would you demand them to get a courier to pick up the item? or would you drive back to get it replaced?

    • +9

Exactly imagine buying a used mouse mat from kmart and then demanding petrol money for the return

      • Not even - OP would demand Kmart send someone over to pick it up haha.

  • I would have seen the product at the store before buying, and asked for a brand new one at the time.

    • +3

You would open and check the mouse mat at the store to see if it was new or used ?

Do you do that with every other purchase under $50 too ?

    • Obviously in hindsight you would've done that. Imagine if the same situation happened but with a brick and mortar store. You buy an item, assuming its brand new, you get home and open it and realise its been used. Would you drive back to the store to get a replacement or refund?

  • The security stickers on the package were opened and closed badly, was totally evident

    • It could have been a customer return, but when it look seal of like that mwave may think it's still brand new.

  • -2

My message to MWAVE on receipt of item:

Totally disappointing and unexpected, when a store such as MWave lists an item as brand new, and sends a used item.

When I saw the packaging (It looked like the security stickers had been opened, then sealed back, but again thought Mwave would not do that.

Opened the product and it was worth a laugh, The sticky had bubbles, there was some package material between sticky back and sticker, showing it had been peeled off and restuck.

There are scuff marks on the top part of the pad.

Absolutely shameful. There is no way the person who packed it, did not know it was an USED ITEM

    Sending all photos

    • +4

I bought a 1000 dollar new cooker from Amazon the other day. Turns out it was used had oil and shit in the lid and everything.

Have no idea how it happened they might have got it from their supplier themselves like that but whatever the case it happened. The main things is that they are trying to rectify the issue and offering reply paid, refunding etc and dealing with the problem. That is exactly what mwave is doing as well, you are the one causing issues to the resolution of this mistake.

Stop being such a spoiled princess and work with them to resolve the issue.

  • -1

The mouse pad is huge, the air bubbles we are talking about would be around a foot round

    • Is this the mouse pad measuring 40.6 x 45.7cm?

      https://www.mwave.com.au/product/glorious-helios-hard-gaming…

A foot = 30.48cm. Is that the circumference of the bubbles you are talking about? How many were there?

      • -1

Yes thats the mouse mat, there is 1 huge one around 3/4 of the back, with multiple smaller ones all over.

        • That's a big bubble!

  • +6

    REPLY PAID XXXXX

Look at that not even out of pocket. Other stores like PCCG for example would never do that.

    • +14

I think OP has issues using REPLY in threads and via postage….

    • -2

Pccg paid for me to post my power supply back? Unfair name and shame clear.

      • +1

They demanded I pay return postage as they'd ship my item back for free. Your comment is unfair.

        • -1

Oh ok. Well i guess i did pay postage out of the refund to get the new psu, so both points stand.

My situation was like ops though, we were getting refunds. You were getting an exchange by the look.

          • @Seedy seed: Yep DOA so I asked for replacement.

            • -1

@Clear: Oh id expect free replacement on doa thats reasonable

  • +10

You're spending far more time and energy on complaining about returning something the seller has a right to request is returned than just posting it back. It's reply paid too - you don't need to pay anything up front. What they're asking for is the typical returns process for anything, and a lot of places make you pay for the return too, only to refund it after assessing the item.

Just wrap it up and take it to a post office for proof that it's been lodged. Or flush $35 down the drain. Up to you.

By the way, if you like wasting money, I can give you my PayPal ID for further donations.

  • +10

    Sh!t happens.
Vendor is trying to rectify it by paying for the return postage prior to sending replacement/refund.
You’re refusing to cooperate hoping to get refund and keep the product out of “principles”?
Even the eBay lady calls you out on it.

I will throw away the product, and They can keep the $35.

    Okay.

    • +2

so rather than spending 10-30 min to walk/drive to the mailbox, OP prefer to waste $35.
      that's very un-Ozbargain.

      • It’s all about the freebies “principles”.

  • +12

As it was USED, and not new as per Ebay Listing, I refused to go to the post office and post it back

So since it was 'used' you wanted to keep the product and have them refund you, essentially getting it for free. Or have them send you another pad and get 2. Ok.

Mwave and ebay responded reasonably to your unreasonable requests.

Your attempt to slander them both was pathetic. You sound like a child, I would not take you seriously.

    • I did not want to keep the product, clearly mentioned that above. Did u bother to read ?

      • +3

So I tell him, I will throw away the product, and They can keep the $35 too.

oh i have no doubts at all

  • +3

So I tell him, I will throw away the product, and They can keep the $35 too.

What's that saying about a fool and their money?

    • Of course, it's the principle of the matter, mabo…

    • +5

The time you have spent on ozbargain discussing this you could have went to a post office / post box and mailed it

    • +1

There is always two ways to look at situations in life. Granted maybe you have received a “used” item or something has gone wrong in the delivery process… but did you ever think maybe, just maybe this whole process could have been resolved much more simply and stress free if you simply took a deep breath and had a civilised chat to someone at the company over the phone…

  • -7

I dont care about $35, reached a stage in life where it does not wound me. As I said its the principal of the matter.

I got over 260 positivive feedback from ebay, over 13 or more years.

And do the right thing, all the guys who mentioned above, I wanted to keep 2, show how their minds work.

    • +5

it doesn't wound you, but it stings. hence the username?

      • Sting, is in relation to the singer STING

        • King of Pain?

    • +1

The worst thing you could do if you are defending "the principle of the matter" is to burn the $35 - which affects you and not the seller.

    • If you're too lazy to post it back, if the used damage isn't too bad, hit them up for a partial refund. You've got photos so you might get half the money back and have a cheaper near new mousepad.

That's the only other option other than sending it back or losing the money.

  • +7

Making a mountain out of a mole hill.
I think the seller is being quite reasonable and offering a no cost return option. Seems that just on principle you are digging your heels in and refusing to take back to the PO?
Safest bet for you next time would be to buy from a B&M outlet.

    • +2

Safest bet for you next time would be to buy from a B&M outlet.

But then they would need to drive to the store and demand a free return trip taxi to return the faculty item.

  • +1

WOW. Just send it back or just keep it and give them a bad review. done stop stressing over a 35 dollar item.

    • -4

Tried doing that, but Ebay said you cannot put a Negative feedback, until 7 days after receipt of the item.

  • +7

You mad bro?. I got nothing to add, thanks for the entertainment.

  • doesn't paypal have paid returns?

    • +6

He has a reply paid address from them so no need.
This is crazy, sure Mwave did the wrong thing and sounds like lousy customer service to begin with but just send it back and get the refund!

    • +2

That doesn't help when you refuse to send the item back

  • +2

so mwave can see your mousepad without checking the item or being returned. So what if you were committing a fraud - received a new pad, demanding a new one (without returning an old pad)? durr

  • +4

So I tell him, I will throw away the product, and They can keep the $35 too.

Come on, Sting, you don't have to put on the red light. Those days are over.

  • -1

Sent MWave 8 photos, when I received the mouse pad.

    • +10

for all we know you could've just sent photos of your old mousepad and claimed they sent you a used one. expecting a free new mousepad and $35, and now that your plan has backfired you've come on ozbargain to have a sook about it.

yes, i'm great at plot twists.

      • A man who reads it like me have a +

    • If you can send them photos, why can't you send them the mouse mat?

      • +1

        Because someone mentioned free.

  • So, they take 4 days to reply

    4 business day?

    • Yes, 4 business days.

Also, if they had just replied, acknowledged receipt and said they were busy, would be considered courteous.

      • +4

You really have no idea how these things work. Messages sit in a queue. They get answered in turn. No one is gonna reply to every single email just to say sit tight we'll get back to you (unless it's one of those auto-reply emails that you're after).

  • If I had a mouse I would call it Bob.

    • I know a mouse, and he hasn't got a house
I don't know why. I call him Gerald

      • He's getting rather old but he's a good mouse.

    • +16

They were going to pay for the return without any hassle

Yeah I'd buy from them, thanks for the post

      • +1

Lol right? Its like my powersupply i bought from pccg, did their tests returned and recived money back as a credit that i requested to buy the same unit new 3 years later lol.

I like pccg for the same reason.

  • +4

So I tell him, I will throw away the product, and They can keep the $35 too.

Then do that, why are you complaining about nothing here?

  • I brought a couple of small items from ebay sellers that were listed as item is in Sydney Australia but when they arrive 2 months later have been shipped from overseas, really annoys me no end.

    • should have complained to eBay and got a refund when they didn't arrive in time

      • Yes i certainly did and posted negative feedback as well

    • +1

Always look carefully at the feedback. Seems to be commonly listed as item location of "botany" or "Darwin". It is very annoying and eBay do nothing about it.

    • Same happened to me. I bought an item not arriving on time. I got full refund. After two months I received it. As I ordered and received from other seller already it is useless. It went to bin. Thats it.
