You guys weren't happy with the last deal so I hope you'll be happy with this one!
This whole bundle is cheaper than the RRP of the headphone by itself ($499)…

If this isn't a bargain I don't know what is.
The headphone can be swapped out for DT770 Pro (more bassy but less detailed and not as pretty) if you'd prefer

Price includes shipping, GST and of course local warranty backed by the local distributors.
Deal will be up until next weekend or when sold out.

As always, we're happy to hear your feedback. Let us know what you think!

    damn!
I really like this one! But my pocket is burnt after buying other things through Ozbargain.
    Control myself, control myself!!!

  • I couldn't see any 32/600ohm versions (I didn't look hard). I saw the 250ohm version down at amazon for $218. http://www.amazon.com/BEYER-DYNAMIC-DT880-Pro-Headphones-Ohm…

The headphone amp is much cheaper from the hk version of this site. http://www.jaben.com.hk/ProductView.asp?ID=411&SortID=162
The price converts to approx $AUD150.

This looks like it could be had for a lot cheaper from other sources. Also, some audiophile gear for cheap would be nice to see.

    • Hmm, I understand the "amazon" prices (not actually amazon, it's geartree from the looks of it) but they can't ship to australia, nor would it have warranty.

Heck, I don't get the Go-Vibe Peak for that price and the HQ (Singapore) is selling it for approx AU$280.
HK will always be slightly cheaper because they have no GST, but the difference between our prices and theirs shouldn't be over 10%. I'll get it looked into, but i'm 100% confident they've simply put up the wrong price.

The other difference is Australian warranty and quicker delivery of course.

"they've simply put up the wrong price."

        ok.

      • There are multiple mail forwarder/on-shipping sites that can be used, they main boon from buying from Jaben to me would simply be the warranty.

I just picked up the AT ESW9 recently and even with express Fedex 3 business day shipping, I ended saving around 30% compared to the prices in Aus.

  • So umm… does this mean there's an Australian warranty? And the items shipped from within Australia?

    • +2

Of course… We are official dealers for everything we carry and any warranty will be done in Australia.
We're opening a store at the end of the year in Melbourne!

      • Man if I had the cash, I'd jump on this, looks like a great deal!

        • Next time mate, next time… If you'd like to try out some stuff we'll be at the head-fi meet in sydney next month!

  • +1

Would like to see Beyer DT 880 separately on special.
How long is the warranty for DT 880 and the amp?

    • +1

Two years for the DT880, one year for the amp.

We might be able to do a small discount on the DT880 (or anything else in our store) if you e-mail us, but it wouldn't be anywhere as good as these special bundles…

      • Thanks.
Would consider bundle if bundle had a DAC.
Can we expect more bundles/brands soon?

        • Of course, we're planning to have most brands out there (but not everything in their catalogue, just the stuff we like)
Next week we're thinking of something with a DACMini or a DAC Port from centrance if they come in on time =)

  • +1

Meh, I'd rather just get the DT880 (Non pro) for ~$330 shipped from Amazon.

  • -1

    +1 Great deal, but I'm looking for b&w p5 …

    • I'll admit, those look excellent but I don't think the sound quality is relative to the price…
From next week on we'll have the DT1350 (Improved version of T50P) which look quite charming as well at a hundred or so less…
And all high end beyers are hand made in Germany!

      Check out this comparison =)
      http://blog.hifiheadphones.co.uk/2010/05/26/beyerdynamic-t50…

    • I have the B&W p5 and they are a very neutral laid back sound. Like that comparison you'll see that they Bass isn't as tight and punchy as some other sets but its a preference thing.

But yeah its a good deal :)

  • Looking forward to ur Melbourne store, hope u have the same deals their so we can preview the item.

  • Hi, is this the Australian outlet of the Singaporean Jaben? :)

Do you guys stock the DT770 non pro?

    • Yes, all Jabens around the world are connected to the Singaporean one!

We're thinking of stocking the non-pro if enough people are interested… but they will be 20%-30% more
They are much nicer looking though, and I overall I do slightly prefer the non-pro's sound (quite different headphones, only similar by name!)
If you're keen now, we can always do a special order =)

  • +1

+1 for trying again. If I may suggest, though, try with the less expensive stuff.

    • lol yeah, this is OzBargain after all =)

The number of audiophiles versus non-audiophiles here?!

  • pity noone has bought any yet

    • you hacked their system to find out?

  • Well a dt880 600ohm can be bought for about 270-280 delivered to Australia at the current exchange rates. Not sure how good that amp is or how much its worth doesn't seem to be that much information on it. Most users go with tube amps for a dt880 600ohm so the amp might be a waste of money if you end up upgrading anyway.

    • Ebay the amp if u're upgrading then,…just saying

  • Damnnn… your store is in melb…if it's in syd, I wanna get it now in store…lol

A deal? If you can get a better thing cheaper somewhere else is it still called a deal?
Premium DT880s from overseas can be had for <$300 shipped, and not the snail mail kind either.
The pro version is inferior to the premium version. Why get the 'pro' version when the premium is better built, more comfortable and looks better?

A warranty on headphones, especially beyerdynamic headphones is nearly worthless. There's plenty of 50, 30, and 20 year old beyerdynamics floating around, even many examples of vintage DT880s that are over 20 years old.

The included amp is funny. Why jaben never sells standalone headphones is a question whose answer is also funny. Including something in a package just increases the price if the quality of the amp is also questionable. How many comparative reviews against other amps does it have? I'm not saying that it's bad, but would you rather spend $160 on something that barely anyone owns or a tried and tested amp? I'm not even going to get into the amping requirements of the DT880 with $160. At LEAST get a matrix m-stage for $40 more if you want this thing. If you insist on buying the pro version, you save even more and can get the m-stage for $40 less than the price of this.

If anyone comes along and says "well it's in a bundle, so it's probably worth more than $160", then I ask, when has jaben's bundles ever been worth more than their bundled price?

If anyone can get the same or better for less or around the same, then it is not a deal. It's just free advertising.

    • well said Trysaeder, buyers keep in mind that these are 600ohm cans, not too many amps can handle these babies.

      • I think I shouldn't have negged this deal. I should be encouraging local retailers rather than comparing them against international stores, but the sad reality is that 'buying australian' often costs more with negligible benefits.

If you want to learn about headphones, then make a thread on whirlpool, overclockers or headphonic. I personally look at whirlpool most often.

A quick summary about the three types of dt880s:
32 ohm: don't bother, get the AD900 instead for $300 at headphonic or $240 at accessoryjack (grey). They don't NEED an amp but if ever there was a low impedance headphone longing for one it's this one.
250 and 600 ohm: some audiophiles say there's a difference. They may be delusional, or there may actually be a slight difference. I admitted to my lack of immunity to placebos and bought myself a 600 for about $30 more a while ago. Depends on your budget and amp, pick with those criteria first.

        • Hi mate, I'd love to have a chat… Give us a call on 0450 328 069 at any reasonable hour (9-9?)

          Don't worry, I won't bite.
I'm a headphone fan first and business man second, I fully understand your points but there's a few things you need to know about Australia's retail…

If you'd like to borrow an amp or two I'm happy for you to review it. I stand behind all of our products and believe they're good value for money

        • -1

You're not the only Australian headphone seller that I've talked to. If you think I'm writing this stuff while not understanding Australia's difficulties then you should know that there are far more out there that really do not understand the extra expenses involved, and those are the ones that you need to convince. I personally would buy local if the price were within 15% or $50, whichever is less (up to a certain point). Not for the warranty, because in 8 years of gear whoring nothing has ever broken on me, but because I want to contribute to lower prices in Australia.

I'm not a big well known reviewer with many amps. That's both good and bad. What you need is a few words from a person who is those things to back up your products. Head-fi is a horrible place overall, but it's great for publicity. Offer a review sample and that will increase confidence.

        • It's not really the expenses, that I can cope with.
It's way more simple than that… We don't (although I wish I could) get the product straight from the manufacturers. It has to go through the channels and our cost price ends up a hell of a lot higher than the US' (sometimes more than double believe it or not).

My aim is obviously to be as cheap as anywhere else but where that's not possible I try my best not to exceed 10-15% max difference. Other than the Beyers I think we've done pretty well
Some things aren't possible to do this, nowhere close e.g. Audio Technica, which is why we don't even carry it atm.

As for the bundles… well you can decide for yourself but from our end it sure looks like a great deal. As in we make very little to no money (or even lose some) on them.
You're right, it's a way to advertise ourselves, but is it so bad if the customer gets a chunky discount?

Sorry for the rant mate, but I'm struggling to understand how you think it's such a terrible deal that you negged it. Negs are pretty rare on ozbargain and I've been here a while…

As I said before I'd love to have a chat to see what we can improve and if you want details I can't just blurt out publicly, but that's up to you

        • @The AudioTechnica thing
Is that because there's only one wholesaler of them in Aus? Considering when I tried to pricematch a AD700 no one accepted it cause they all checked with their wholesaler to see if someone was actually doing it for that price or something and apparently the wholesaler knew all the authorised retailers in Australia….

        • -1

"We don't get the product straight from the manufacturers."
          I know that.

"My aim is obviously to be as cheap as anywhere else"
Everyone aims for that when they're really trying to sell stuff. It's why I shouldn't have negged it.

"it's a way to advertise ourselves, but is it so bad if the customer gets a chunky discount?"
It looks dodgy. Appearances matter a lot. Go follow head-direct and get some reviews up. They're HUGE on head-fi now.

"but I'm struggling to understand how you think it's such a terrible deal that you negged it."
I gave reasons at the very start, then I followed up by saying that I regretted negging it. You're starting to get rid of that regret.

"I'd love to have a chat"
Again I've spoken to many other headphone sellers, and even sellers from other areas. Headphones aren't the only place that Australia gets shafted in.

    • Just a quick correction on this, the pro version is designed to last longer (it is intended for professional use after all) with easy to replace parts.
Less comfortable= slighly tigher than you're right, although you can just stretch that out just like grados
Looks is almost the same but I guess that's on the eye of the beholder.

As you know, they sound exactly the same

FYI, the pro version actually costs us more than the premium version

  • The large discrepency with the RRP just demonstrates how much we consumers are getting ripped off in Australia…

  • Trysaeder, seems like u know alot abt headphones, can I pm you for any advice? looking to get into the headphones world but kinda confused with the whole amp thing…

    • +1

Come to headfi.com, it's where all the audiophiles hang out, and you'll learn all about headphones, amps, dac's, cables and everything in between. it's a great place with everything, but it may put a formidable dent in your wallet over time.

      • +1

Was gonna say, Whirlpool or Overclockers would've been the last place I'd go for advice on cans.
First place of call, headphonics for local prices, then head-fi for reviews.
Hopefully Jaben now can change that order ;)

      http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/headphone-amp-impedance.…

head-fi.org can be a useful resource, but there are too many people who believe in placebo there (if it costs more, it must be better; if others say it's good, it must be good for me as well).

To add to boirediah's comment we're going to attend a sydney head-fi meet next month.
Come along! You can try out lots of headphones, both in our catalogue as well as various other members' headphones.
It'll help you in picking the right headphone a hell lot more than from reading reviews…

  • Is Jaben Australia going to stock Grado woodie cups? :D

Also +1, need to support local headphone companies, they have it hard enough as it is. Jaben are great for the competitions they run, I've entered 3 (1 from head-fi, 2 from facebook) and I'll be entering any I find on their facebook for the chance to win something awesome ;D

    • If you want them we can order it in, we can get just about everything under the sun
