Need Washing Machine 8kg+ Bosch Miele Electrolux (LG?)

Hi

The usual. Our Electrolux 7 kg died after 12 years or likely to expensive for repair

Wife wants 9kg+, although, with crazy prices, she is now looking at 8kg. Front loader

3 boys 6 to 10 so we wash a lot.

Any recommendations? Preferably under $1000

The Bosch WAW28460AU 8KG is 950 at David Jones (995 at HN, on EOFY sale)

Looks German made model

Any advice options. Bad experiences with LG before but never a washing machine and it seems much loved machine in Australia, only issue being longer wash cycles

    My tip.

Ignore the 'xxx KG' rating. Look at the drum size.

  • get one with an inverter motor. ooohhhh man theyre sweet! I have an 8kg lg front loader.

Germany made BOSCH FTW. You can check serial number to ensure manufacture country http://en.tab-tv.com/?p=15502. TBH, Germany made Bosch are rarely under $1,000. You won't get Miele any near under $1,000 too.

  • I have LG 8KG washer and LG 8KG dryer and it works fine. It has only been 2 years though. I expect it to last at least 5 years. I personally rather a 5-10 year durability rather than 20 years.
A 20 year old machine chews power and isn't efficient. Plus has 20yo technology.

  • Get the german made bosch models and not the cheaper ones made in china etc. Worth the money

  • Mate of mine had a Bosch which they paid a premium for expecting quality, sadly that was not the case and it only lasted them 2 yrs. They now have the LG clear top

We recently got the 10kg LG with the clear top for $995 after our samsung didn’t survive moving house. Great warranty and you can watch the washing getting washed, insane! Highly recommended

  • The electric motors in Bosch washing machines use replaceable carbon brushes that wear down over time (12 years sounds reasonable). The replacement part is inexpensive and would not take long to fit.

Last week Good Guys had an 8Kg Miele for $1499

Once you go Miele, everything else seems like rubbish.

  • Being going through the same thing recently with similar options for family member. Chose LG for many reasons,
In laws have one on uneven slippery ground and tank water >10yrs old wobbles around due to ground, still works.
My LG front loader is ten years old, still going strong.
When you look at the manuals capacity of LG is the best for different load types.
Lg only one that has hot and cold water connections.
    Hope this helps.

  • I'd advise against buying any Electrolux owned product (chef, kelvinator, westinghouse etc.) - all cheap garbage designed to fail.

To call their customer service team and sub-contracted technicians absolute garbage would be an understatement.

  • Our 7.5kg Front Load Samsung Washing Machine (WF756UMSAWQ) has been going strong for the past 7 years. Purchased via Appliances Online (they may not offer a WA service?!)

  • Had a bosh 8kh for the last 7 years and replaced it with Beko 9kg. It washes much better and has 10 years warranty. Mother had one and used it for 20 years. It's very popular brand in Europe.

I have a Miele. No complaints. Just gets the job done.

My family has always had Miele machines - my parent's machine is pushing 20 years now with only the rubber seal changed due to accidentally tearing it. A family friend has a machine around 15 years old with no issues and my uncle's machine is over 20 years old now.

Several years ago when I moved out of home I stumped up for a Miele based on everyone I know having no issues.

ALDI 10kg Top Load Washing Machine $399 - on sale 3 July

  • Try and see if there's a service centre nearby who might have second goods for sale.

Last month I got an Electrolux frontloader 9kg for $370 because it had a scratch on its side from transit and couldn't be sold in the usual stores

  • I bought the Bosch WAW28460AU a few months ago and so far so good.

The only minor thing is the wash settings are too generic.
Does anyone have a list of setting to use on certain clothing? Eg. Socks, blend of cotton and other material etc.
Or does everyone just wash on the cotton setting for everything?

  • My LG front loader is 16 years old and still works great.
Leave the door open after washing cycles so the drum gets dry, then its life will get longer, says my mum.

  • I have this bad boy - its awesome. iDos is amazing.

    • Oh man! I wanted that model, but Mrs didn't trust the machine to make the decision of how much detergent + softner + whatever fairy dust she puts…she she said a hard no for the iDos :(

      • nah nah nah nah nah you have options.. 0 (none - add your own stuff in the manual tray), 1 (minimum), 2 (medium), or 3 (maximum).
These numbers distribute the correct amount depending on the weight in the machine.

When theres literally 1-3 small garments in there, it is a little sudsy, but still not bad.

        Best thing ever.

      • @shadowarrior … SNAP + Mrs didn't think the fancy feature was worth an extra ~$350

        • :'(

Well…its too late now… am back to scooping detergent in the slot! Still super happy with both the machines though :)

  • I’ve had the WAW28460AU for two years. No issues to date. The drum always looks clean. Never had to adjust the feet after the first time. No residue on clothes after washing.

Only downside is that it can’t clean a queen size polyester quilt. It’ll fit but it there isn’t enough room to tumble and most times it can’t rebalance to spin properly so you have to drag out a heavy wet quilt and then put it back in.

  • I'd recommend asko

  • We purchased this last month. Wife loves it paid just over $1k plus got $60 Visa

Has anyone gone back from a front loader to a to loader sure to getting old and not being able to bend over to get washing in and out?

    • I'm thinking of doing that, or getting a Bosch front loader and a Bosch pedestal.

  • Just a quick updated on our selection.

Happy Wife, Happy life… from 2 washes a day to 3 washes a day.
We don't use the fancy functions. we wash, and mostly cold. Maybe now and then. The remote start is cool, but yet to be used.

Works a charm. Very quiet. doesn't shake like the electrolux.
