    wtf man too much goddamn.

  • Can anyone provide a view on how this compares to the E495 please? Is it worth the extra?

    • E495 is overall a better product, except maybe on the battery life front.

    • +1

This is slower but has slightly better battery maybe. You can configure this with a backlit keyboard. If you want any GPU performance don't go with this.

      • How do I add a backlit keyboard ? Couldn't found any option to do that on E480.

      • Where can you add the backlit keyboard

        • +1

Usually, the website allows to configure some machines, like RAM, Disk, Keyboard, etc, but there is not much configuration changes available on this model.

      • +1

I've noticed the website advertises both models as having up up 13 hours battery. Don't know if that means they're about the same?

This laptop actually runs The Sims 4 pretty decently, which I didn't expect. But yeah I would pick the E495 since it's cheaper and looks to have similar performance.

  • Urgh. Hope there is something on the T… need the extra battery power.

    Ahh Intel FTW :)

I do miss my AMD Athlons & Durons ;)

Wonder if there are any buyer's remorse from those who bought the previous AMD deals?

What do you know that others don't?

Running ryzen on both my laptop and desktop and loving life without spectre and meltdown

@TA any deals for the E590 in the pipeline?

  • In what ways E495 is better than this? Always thought 8th gen i5/i7 are better and faster processors than AMD and expensive too. Keen to hear thoughts.

    • I posted the comparison link above.

    • +1

See previous E495 and E595 posts for more detailed discussions and comments.

    • E495 has much greater GPU performance and has less security vulnerabilities.

Not sure why there are very limited deals with T and X series?
Meanwhile, competitors like Dell XPS series always have good prices.

    • Different target market. T series is generally marketed towards enterprise use (competitor to Dell's Latitude range), while X is a bit of a mix, while being thinner and lighter than XPS. XPS is consider to be the prosumer/enthusiast range. Different support tier too.

  • C'mon TA.

Is this laptop shipped with spyware preinstalled?

    • +1

      Hasn't existed since 2015.

  • I bought one of these recently and have been pretty happy with it. It's nothing flashy, but is a solid and fast laptop at a good price.

  • Hi TA. Any deal on monitors :)

  • Ok. I'm not much of a computer guy. I currently run a T420 says it's from about 2011, i5-2540M, 8GBram, 2.60 Ghz. Would this be an upgrade?

    • Yeah

    • +1

Yep this one should be lightning fast compared to what you're running, particularly when the computer is starting up and when you open programs.

It does also depend on what you want to use it for though. This laptop isn't great for modern 3D gaming.

Can't comment on the differences between the E series and T series though.

Also the E495 might give you better value for money.

      • Thanks for the sum up. I'm not a modern PC gamer luckily. This computer is running nicely right now but can then have days where it doesn't like me. Don't have to jump into a purchase, i'm really just a web browser and use software like statistics programs for a psychology course. I want to be able to multi-task without slow down. Might start to put my current computer to the test in that regard

        • +2

You will probably find that the solid state drives make a massive difference over your older spinning disk drive.

        • +1

Yep these laptops will be great for web browsing.

I don't have experience with statistics programs (unless you count Excel), but you might want to check how much RAM the program uses or recommends. If you're loading huge amounts of data into the program then it might benefit from a laptop with more than 8GB (eg 16GB or possibly even 32GB).

For those subscribed, not going to post this as a separate deal (others can if they wish). I've been able to get the E490s down to $999 with code TA-HEX490s. Link is here. There's also a Cashrewards link in the regular place if interested. All the best :)

  • Just used PayPal on this one and it said PayPal not available. Still took the money out on PayPal.

Hope this gets sorted as PayPal certainly took the moneyband don't want to risk getting 2.
