It's a shite box. Plus there are no updates or customer service.

Yeah, I just gave it back to the c***** at the store. Cannot get a refund, only replacement, that's how pissed I was with it.

    • What makes it a shite box? I got one the other day and it runs Android TV 8 with no bloatware on it. Mine did a system update during the initial setup although I'm not sure what they updated. Sideloaded some streaming content apps and downloaded catch up tv apps from the play store, no hassles.

      • So it came with 8 installed (or after that update?) If so, very interesting….. I've finally retired my old Apple TV (Gen3) boxes [was using iTunes hosted on an old mac mini to play local videos etc, but it was getting more and more unreliable], so have setup Plex on my Qnap NAS and am currently using my Xbox One to access Netflix, Prime, and Plex. Only issues being it a) takes a long time to startup and b) the Xbox One app doesn't show the Live TV DVR guide.

Was thinking about maybe getting a Mi Box S (but very mixed reviews out there with some people finding it great, but others having reliability issues). Another option was perhaps a new Apple TV or Nvidia Shield, but both are stupid expensive for what I would be using them for.

        • +1

If you're considering a Shield, it might be worth holding off if you can, as rumour is there are two new models being released in the near future, with the second one being a dongle / streaming stick with an SD card instead of USB, and likely cheaper (and new Shields mean the current one should go for cheaper too):

          https://www.xda-developers.com/nvidia-shield-tv-2019-rumors/

          • @kirt: Interesting as well - yeah, I might hold off a little longer.

        • Plex is available in the Android TV store (meaning no need to sideload and automatic updates) and I had no problems installing it onto the Vodafone TV and using it. The startup time on the box is pretty quick too, under a minute.

      • Netflix issues, lack of support and Vodafone's NO REFUND policy!

Something went wrong; like every 1 hour or so when you rewind. Fix: restart.
        https://www.google.com/search?q=vodafone+tv+netflix+somethin…

Did all soft resets, clearing cache and factory reset; still happens.

If it works, it works great; sadly it didn't for me!

Buys a Nvidia shield and shields myself from headaches!

        • not fit for purpose?

        • Ive had no issues at all with the Vodafone tv, used the Kodi or Netflix and other apps a fair bit with maybe a app crash once if that a month.

    • comes with a 24 month warranty period.

  • Kayo app is available as a native android app or Kodi add-on?

    • Two months ago still wasn't natively supported and I had to resort to using the Kodi add-on. Not sure if it has changed since then

  • is there are way to autostart netflix without selecting a multi account?
i want to put this device into my air bnb for guests to use but just want it to autostart on netflix already logged in

  • Anyone else having problems with VTV not waking from sleep with the remote or on button? Keep having to pull the power chord and plug back in. Tried factory reset but didn't do the trick.

  • Hmm I can't seem to get NordVPN to work with Netflix on this… has anyone ever got this to work? Any tips pleasee

  • I sent my mother in law to get one today and they told her it wouldn't work as she only uses a hotspot to stream her shows. I don't think this is true though. She is currently using a PS3 to stream Netflix with no issues. Does anyone else here use this with a hotspot?

    • +1

Hotspot will work as vodafone box has wireless

      • Thank you, I thought as much. Thank you for confirming

So it can upgrade to 9.0 now?

      • I tried on 24 Dec and it wasn't available.

      • mine is still on 7.1.1, i doubt they will release the android 9 update. They havent even released android 8 yet.

        • Mine has updated to android 9 now

          • +1

@maiuspala: I will have to get mine up and running to see if it updates.

Then will do the same for my parents one if it hasnt yet updated.

          • @maiuspala: Well, what do you know. Checked and indeed there was an update. It is now running 9! Only drawbacks so far is it seemed to wipe everything so had to do some reinstalling of apps, and there still is no Prime (although fingers crossed - sometimes it take a little while for the app store to refresh on devices).

            • @PlasticSpaceman: I turned mine on and it was already running 9. Didnt seem to wipe anything either. Dont know how that happened. So far it looks like 9 also fixed the problems i used to have with 7

  • Can you pair the original remote and a Logitech Harmony remote to the box at the same time and have them both work?

Is there any way to turn the box off with a phone app over wifi (from another room)?

    Thanks in advance.

    • Yes about the harmony remote. Unsure about the phone app.

  • I can not get 7, 9 and 10 HD channels to work properly.

  • thanks, decided to order.

  • How can i return my faulty vtv?

I called them, they asked to factory reset it. And promised to call back a few days later, which they didnt.

Also, on their website they only mention phone warranty and returns.

Has anyone else had problems with their vtv and how did it resolve?

    • 24 month warranty, contact customer care on 1300 650 410 and you will be provided with further instructions and sent a reply paid envelope free of charge.

      • Have the original receipt got a serial no of the box ?

        • The only receipt I can see is the email titled "Confirmation of your order with Vodafone. Thanks for shopping with us!"

          which details the below;

Here's a summary of your order
          Total: $72.00
          Including GST: $6.55

          Vodafone TV™ $72.00*

          Free express delivery INCLUDED
          *Includes GST

          • @thydzik: Probably they might have that in their system then or the paperwork that you get with the device !

  • I found this link useful to get Prime on the box
    https://youtu.be/wo-bWFQJ1LI

    • +2

I just put my apk files onto a USB stick and connect that to the box and then use x-plore to install directly, no cloud storage needed.

  • Anyone know where to download the manual from? Can only find the NZ version.

Is it possible to pair the vodaphone remote with the tv remote? It looked like the NZ version could do this. Had two power buttons on the remote.

    • Just enable HDMI-CEC on your TV.

My TV is turned ON and OFF from the vodafone box remote.

My Vodafone TV received Android 9 update today.Image

  • My Vodafone TV decided to go dead while doing the Android 9 update. Anyone can help how to do the return for this, I haven't got the receipt as I got it long back from a Vodafone store, hope somebody can share a dummy receipt/order no for me
    Thanks in advance

  • Since I updated to 9, when watching live TV after a while I get a black screen and a blinking message that says "this video has become unexpectedly unavailable". I've rescanned the channels, which didn't work. I'm going to try a factory reset to see if that fixes it.

  • Does it support all the usual Android market apps? What about Disney+?

  • How do you switch between apps now in android 9? Long pressing home button doesnt do it any more.

  • Do not buy this if you intend to use it as media player from your usb storage. Since the update it stopped working and there is no fix for it. complained to Vodafone about it. they refunded me and told me to keep the device. Would have been more than happy with no refund and no update.

  • does vodafone offer change of mind returns? or returns if you are not happy with this?

    • I have asked, if bought outright yes, like 14 days I believe but if put on a plan then no

  • grabbing one of these for a senior person who doesn't really like to use any of the built in catchup apps on her hisense tv that might give her a few ads to watch her quiz/cop shows but has no problem sitting through all the FTA live ads and complains about all the ads on that….go figure hoping the freeview catchup apps are easy enough for her to manage on the VTV or if not she can still use it fine for FTA.

is it easy enough to pair with some bluetooth headphones so she is not freaking out all the neighbours with all the cop sirens and screaming interrogations they have on those shows. i can see her neighbours thanking me once i've got it setup for her.

    • +1

Should be easy enough. I use to pair my Bluetooth speaker to it.

anyone else noticed that the box constantly generates network chatter and seems to go out to the internet doing something?
