A couple of days ago I posted a deal at Officeworks for the Kindle Oasis entry-level model. It turns out that they were clearing out stock to make way for the new Oasis that Amazon just announced overnight!

Amazon are now clearing out stock of their top-of-the-line previous model, which comes with 32GB and cellular access.

Buy it now, and use Shopback to get an additional 8% back ($35 minus GST I think).

If, however, you wanted the new model, which adds backlight temperature adjustment and a 15% bigger battery, it is now available for pre-order. If you pre-order it now with the 8% from Shopback, you should still receive your cashback after it ships (needs to ship within 60 days)

  • The regular paper white is waterproof too now and only $179 delivered https://www.amazon.com.au/Kindle-Paperwhite-E-reader-Waterpr…

  • Its against the rules to link to it, but paper white is only 179 delivered and it is also waterproof

    • Yes, the new Paperwhite is fantastic - it's much better value. I'd only recommend the Oasis for those wanting a bigger screen, or (with the new model) the ability to adjust the backlight temperature. I thought this deal was worth sharing for anyone in that group.

Edit: I think that you can link to the Paperwhite, but you can't use an affiliate link.

      • The paper white screen is a little cramped, bigger issue is gripping it because the bezel is too small. oh I forgot I turned on affiliate links, I was going to build an affiliate blog but felt like a waste of time. I just copied the URL after clicking on a google search for "waterproof paper white".

        • If you think the Paperwhite screen is cramped, then the Oasis is the only Kindle Amazon offers that has a bigger screen. It also offers a nice big bezel on one side, which is ideal for those who find the Paperwhite bezels too small. So if those are your major complaints about the Paperwhite, then Amazon has you covered!

Of course, most people wouldn't be willing to pay double the price just to address those features, so the Oasis is definitely a niche product.

          • @t3chshopper: For the price you could get two paper whites, hinge them together with a custom cover, and read it like an actual book.

  • I tried the oasis twice but like the new white waterproof better.

i don't think the feature is worth over $100 you need to pay, for ebooks, 8gb is more than enough, you can literally store thousands of books with 8gb

    • Plus you can pretty easily swap content over wifi, or cellular if you have it, but really wifi is everywhere, you can even tether to your phone if you need to swap audiobooks while travelling.

  • It's a deal but there really is no value proposition over the paperwhite. This has what? Adjustable front light, which if you really need it, just wait a year and it'll be in the "New" Paperwhite, and also a 32gb storage space which even for a bookworm like myself may as well 4x infinity since I never see myself filling up the 8gb on the Paperwhite. As for the 1" bigger screen, $270 is a lot to pay for 1".

So in all, it gives you a screen won't need, a storage capacity you won't use, at a price you won't pay. Oh, and I'm pretty sure it still doesn't have audible support in Australia. You know, the one thing that might justify it.

I'm the OP and I agree. The Paperwhite is amazingly good value. I've had two generations of Paperwhites now and I've only ever paid about AUD$130 for mine, so even better value than current pricing. I started with the original Kindle keyboard model with 2GB and despite having hundreds of books, I never came close to filling it up.

Note that the Kindle Oasis model here doesn't even have the adjustable backlight, which, as you've pointed out, Amazon will probably add to their next Paperwhite, which they did with the 300dpi screen first, and then waterproofing after that.

I think the bigger (32GB) model is popular in Japan where they're used for Manga comics. I could see the bigger screen also being attractive for that kind of usage.

With eyesight that's getting worse, I want the (newly announced) Kindle Oasis v3 with the bigger screen and adjustable backlight. I use mine with the US store, so I can utilise the Audible books feature, but I've got a phone for that anyway, so it's irrelevant.
