    • Yeah I've read up on it a bit, and it's not 100% clear what the Pro gets you apart from a nicer print surface, but a 3rd party glass plate can be had for $25.

Solid starter printer - would definitely recommend for those interested in 3d printing. Has a great community backing, and is very easy to modify/improve.
    Good review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmFjIb4moSw
His Youtube channel has heaps of hints and tips around it.

Just started researching printers, what would be the next jumps in price/models? and would those just give a bigger printing area?

    any YT channels recommended?

    thanks!

      It depends what you want.
If you want something that works out of the box, and keeps working, then you are looking at something luke the Prusa MK3, super reliable, great support from the manufacturer, prints faster, much easier to remove models when printed etc. etc.
If you want something bigger, then the CR10 S4 (400mm x 400mm) or the CR10 S5 (500x500) but expect to replace the bed heater on those if you want to print ABS.

I have an Ender 3, a Prusa MK2 and a CR10 S5 and an Up Plus 2, as well as a resin printer.
The Up Plus 2 is the champion with ABS, the S5 is for printing R2 units that need the 500mm print bed in PLA and the Prusa for everything else, especially flexible filaments and fancy stuff. The resin printer is for fine detailed work like jewellery and gaming miniatures.

A 3D printer is more like a lathe, it is a tool that requires calibration, and fiddling and maintenance and sometimes replacing or upgrading parts, and learning a lot about temperature settings for different filaments, and so on.
It isn't really at a consumer level yet, expect some failed prints, some learning, and if you buy the ender, physically modifying the printer to either get it to work, to keep it working, or to make it work how you want it to.

      • How much better is the details on the Prusa compared to the CR10 S5 you have would you say?

    • Also, some printers are kits (like this one) and have literally hundreds of parts and poor instructions, many people fail to get a kit printer assembled.
Some others like the CR10 series, the Prusa MK3 and other versions of the Ender, come 90% assembled, and I would recommend that for a first time user.

I've got some reviews on YT of similar-priced budget printers:

Personally, if you're not just trying to figure out if 3D printing is something you want to get into, but have decided that it is something you want to do, I would also give strong recommendations to investigate:

      • JGAurora A1
      • Two Trees Sapphire S (full review coming in a few weeks… but its great!)
      • Ender 5
      • Anycubic 4Max
      • Tronxy C5
  • Don't buy this one. To be honest Ender5 is much better. It makes you feeling less stressful compare with ender3. If you haven't used any other 3D printer or just started, Ender5 is the best choice for open source 3Dprinter. It is more expensive nearly $200 but it is not waste of money

That's the same listing, but the eBay Plus price, another $13 off?

  • Ooh and Ender 5 here for $399, now thats cheap - Extremely tempted to get one;
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ENDER-5-ENDER-5-3D-Printer-Creal…?

I have 2 ender 3's and they are a good unit to learn on, very capable machines, had them since Christmas 2018 and havent had any major failures apart from the fans. I think best thing with the creality units is the community support, lots of good facebook groups and youtube tutorials

  • Should be noted that this is the kit version, so requires some putting together. That being said, great find OP!

  • i love my Ender 3. it's been running stock for over 6 months and I'm yet to have any real problems.

  • Bought one as well. Have been contacted this morning that they have no more stock "checked everywhere in the warehouse but last stock was damaged by heavy rain" at the same time they still have it up full price on Ebay. Someone trying to avoid the discount ;-) ?
