Copy-paste from my comments last time this was on sale…..

I bought this in the previous sale too.

    My impressions:
    - Postage was quite fast to Qld regional address and well packaged.
    - Panel is sharp and bright, colours are decent - zero complaints there.
    - Mixed feelings about the curve - good for a single user, but bad for sharing a video with others.
    - Integrated speakers are very quiet and virtually useless.
    - Limited ports - just 2 HDMIs and a DP. No headphone port for sound output.
    - Metal stand is very basic but quite sturdy - VESA mount is viable
    - Menu system is okay to navigate, but limited options and buttons feel very cheap and clunky
    - Provided with decent quality cables etc, well packaged.
    - I've experienced a couple of flickers, but only in one particular game - fine in everything else. Could easily be the game itself.
    - Refresh rate of 100+ Hz via 1070 in BF5 is great, very smooth motion and a significant upgrade over 60Hz.
    - Connection ports are recessed a long way into the underside of the screen and rather difficult to plug cables into. Not sure if this is a cable-management system I don't understand, or dumb design.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it - excellent value in my opinion. Even better if GTX cards can make use of the FreeSync capability.

Happy to answer questions if you have them…

    • I saw that comment on the Whirlpool forums.

Thanks for the feedback / review of the monitor it was what made me commit to buying one.

    • So is it compatible with g-sync?

      • +1

It is Gysnc compatible but a number of previous buyers have had varying amounts of success with it.
Some have said they haven't had any issues and others have said some games show flickering.
        Could be driver version related.

  • I'm in the market for a freesync monitor somewhere between 24"-27".

I've done some light reading regarding monitors but there seems to be a lot of disagreement. I predominately game on the PC with a tiny bit of graphic design and general web browsing and the occasional movie/tv show.

How does this monitor stack up vs competitors, my budget would be around the $400 mark.

I've been offered a Acer Predator XB2 XB252Q 24.5 monitor for $300 second hand which seems a good deal but i'm running an RX580 Gpu and to my limited knowledge i could experience screen tearing because i'm not running a nvidia GPU.

    • If you're predominantly gaming and dabbling in graphic design, I'd get a 27" 1440p 144hz IPS panel with freesync.

Acer Nitro XV272UP is perhaps the cheapest option @ $649 so a bit of a budget stretch. They had quality control issues when they first came out and I'm not sure if it's been improved since then. I believe all the monitors with these specs use the same Innolux panel.

If you're going to drop back towards your budget, you're either going to have to sacrifice IPS for VA/TN, or 1440p for 1080p, or 144hz for 75hz.

I'd recommend the AOC Q3279VWFD8 for $299 but it's 31.5", so maybe a bit too big for you.

I don't think the market offers much in terms of sub-27" monitors with QHD, which is what i'd be aiming for if I had the GPU you have.

      • Thank you, appreciate the response.

The problem is i have a very short desk in a small room, so anything above 27" will definitely be too large.

Real world looks and performance how would this Kogan monitor stack up to the Acer Nitro you suggested or other similarly priced monitors? Is it worth waiting till i can increase the budget instead of pulling the trigger on this one?

        • Honestly, probably not a lot. You'd notice your typical IPS (Acer Nitro) vs VA (this panel)differences such as viewing angles, response times, contrast and colours.

Unless you're into the competitive gaming scene and not overly snobby about the things I mentioned above, you'd enjoy it for sure.

I hope you know what you're getting into with a curved monitor too. A lot of people like them but then again, they're not everyone's cup of tea.

          • @joeflacco: I've never owned a curved monitor but they do look nice aesthetically, from what I've read they are good for sit down direct head on viewing which is what i'll be doing but are terrible from side on angles.

Any other key differences to consider between a curved and normal monitor?

            • @[Deactivated]: Not that I know of. I've personally never owned a curved monitor either.

            • @[Deactivated]: "Terrible from side-on" might be overstating it. Sub-optimal is closer to the truth IMO.

It's definitely slightly strange at first but you quickly get used to it. It's fine for two people sitting side by side, but as a small TV substitute with lots of people watching it would be pretty poor.

The picture looks more strange the further off-centre you are - both because of the VA panel viewing anglesmessing with the colours, and because the image is quite obviously distorted by the shape of the screen's curved surface.

            • @[Deactivated]: Have sat in front of multiple curved monitors both at work and home and after a while you don't even notice they're curved

Maybe it's just me but the novelty wore off pretty quickly in my use. Ymmv

    • +1

The main difference between IPS and VA screens are viewing angles and contrast.

      a) Colours are distorted less when viewed off-centre on IPS screens.
      b) VA panels generally have deeper blacks and higher contrast than IPS, but are a little less colour-accurate.

If you're doing graphic design work where colour accuracy is vital, you should consider spending extra on an IPS panel. If your priorities are more skewed towards gaming and multimedia, the higher refresh rates and deeper blacks on VA panels make them very appealing and they're generally quite a bit cheaper.

A Free-sync screen would also pair nicely with your AMD video card.

IMO IPS screens are over-rated - their major advantage is off-centre viewing, but who doesn't sit directly in front of their monitor?

Just receive e-mail that use "EOFYTECH" at checkout you can get freeshipping for selected tech item

    • Just checked and it looks like it works. Will Update.

    • Is the code only for Kogan monitors? Doesn’t work for the LG 25” or 29” Ultra Wide monitors.

Can’t justify paying $20 postage when they have been much cheaper previously.

  • Are they just ALibaba specials with their own logo on them? Or are they legit engineered good gaming screens? I want something thats good not a linglong curvyboii

    • From what i can tell, its essentially a Viotek GN27DB with a Kogan name attached.

Panel is a Samsung panel which is used in some MSI and Pixio Monitors for higher prices.

I've got this monitor, just received in the last month or so, running it on a 2080ti and love it. A serious upgrade from my 1080p 75hz LG.

No dead pixels, the only very minor issue is some blacklight bleed when looking at it at an angle. The panel is also not as nice (colour-wise) as my secondary Dell screen but that's to be expected (IPS vs. VA panel).

    Happy to answer any questions.

FYI - it uses spacers to mount to a VESA mount (as the VESA screw holes are set deep into the back) so best to not lose them like I did when opening the box.

    • Would you say this monitor is the best value for money around at the moment for gaming purposes?

      • +1

It's definitely one of the best value screens out there. That was my criteria for purchasing, and it's been great.

      • +2

Yes, for sure. Not sure how you'd find these specs at any price lower than this (I tried!).

2k res, 144hz, curved (if that matters to you) and a non-TN panel?

The only concerns I had before buying were re. dead pixels but mine is in perfect cond. and delivery was super quick.

I tried Gsync on this a few months ago and it started to flicker in some games so unfortunately does not work that well with this model. Overall very solid monitor though for the specs

    • +1

I've been using G-sync on this screen for months, with no issues at all. It gets used for gaming (Battlefield, Seige, and other shooters) for at least 2 hours, sometimes as many as 6 hours, almost every day.

So far I'm yet to see any sign of flickering or glitches, and the wife hasn't mentioned any either.

      Apparently YMMV.

      • Oh I'm keen to try this again then.

  • Just wondering, how do you know its a GN27DB, I can't see anything on the page that states that? Also anyone know the input lag of this one?

    • +2

It has been mentioned in previous deals and a whirlpool thread discussing this exact monitor.
Many from both agree that it is the same panel.

      • OK, cool thanks, just learning if there was another way to tell.

  • I dont know if I would get a 144hz monitor with only 5ms response time.

  • +2

Remember with Kogan you get what you pay for

Dont be surprised if it breaks down in 6 months

    • Couldn't agree more

    • It comes with a 12 month warranty, so it's more likely to break down at around the 13 month mark.

      • I had their shit break down on the day i got it

  • +1

anyone have info on this monitor? anygood???
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-35-curved-219-ultrawide-2…

can't seem to find out if it's flicker free

  • +2

no matter how you curve it, it's still a Kogan lol

    • Even though its Kogan, it's still probably one of the best budget 2k 144z monitors under $400, and reviews and YouTube videos always seem to recommend it highly if you are on a budget and don't want to spend 700+ for similar features.

      • I agree that it is a good price. But it isn't a good price when the screen shits itself and kogan doesn't help and you're left with no screen? I have had this happen with Kogan. So people should be warned of Kogan's dodginess.
I would recommend if you want to go a bargain screen, go slightly smaller with a better response time. I run a 30" and I find it a little too big for gaming as you need to look around a bit too much, which takes your focus off the center of the screen. But that is just my opinion.

  • Where do I use the free delivery code please? It seems to automatically populate a 'TAXTIME' discount and I can't enter another.
