New Phone + Plan for Couple

Hey,

My partner and I are in need of new phones and possibly news plans if it works out cheaper and was looking for some help doing the calculations and finding some deals. I'm on a 12 months plan with Optus $40p/m (I joined when they had the 3 free months) + 35p/m 24 months for an Apple watch with Optus started in Dec 2018. Im on a dying iphone 6s plus (back camera is dead and the battry is iffy after a replacement 8 months ago). My partner is on a pre-paid Telstra 40p/m plan on an older iphone 6. I am currently a full time student and am eligible for the student discount and Optus have sent me emails stating that I am eligible for a 20% discount if I have a second service on my account.

So I am tossing up buying two new phones outright (we are invested in the Apple ecosystem with HomeKit) or finding a couple of good plans that offer some great value.

Can anyone offer some advice or know any going deals?

I'm pretty sure in most cases you're better off not going with a plan. I'd suggest buying outright and highly recommend Boost Mobile prepaid. I've been using them for over a month now and they are using the Telstra network, the service is exceptional (both calls+text & 4g reception across all of Sydney). For $150/year you get unlimited calls/text and 80GB prepaid data, so about 6.6GB per month for $12.50 a month. If you need more data they have a $300 plan with 240GB data which is 20GB per month for $25/month. And you also get standard calls + texts to 25 countries in the world which is amazing if you have friends and family overseas you can just call or text them on landline or mobile with no limits.

Wow. Looks way better than my current plan. I am with moose mobile $19 plan and I only have 4GB data, unlimited calls in Oz but no international calls and text. I wonder i should switch…..I am in Perth though.
