Slept Waaay Too Much Ever Done It ?

Yesterday i came home it was cold so thought i would just have a quick nap for a hour or so, just felt a bit tired

It was 230pm i woke up at 9pm !!!!

I was shocked actually, had something to eat then went back to bed because it was cold and woke up at 430am

Cant get to sleep now its morning i feel really good waking up

I feel ok but thinking i could have a health problem?

I remember not drinking my normal doses of caffeine yesterday , usually im a 20 plus cup a day coffee drinker but didnt have time yesterday, could that have done it ?

Im just pissed because i wasted last afternoon on sleep instead of being productive, maybe its the cold weather ?

Ever done this yourself ? I feel waaaay gulity i wasted all the time

Im so angry with myself i went out bought some vitamins this morning as well, my fault for not putting the alarm on my phone i guess

  • Don't do that again, cortisol will mess with you

  • Omg if only. I dream of that kind of sleep.

I doubt you'll see the funny side when Fred is sitting in your chair on Monday and you're wondering why your desk has been packed into a small cardboard box in the corner.

  • once i went to Germany and i got to my hotel around 2pm feeling really jetlagged

Going cold turkey on such a high dose of caffeine is like having a 'lite' version of methamphetamine withdrawal. Caffeine prevents you from feeling tired by blocking the effect of adenosine (which induces fatigue when it accumulated). Cocaine and amphetamines are mechanistically different and facilitate the effect of the catecholamine neurotransmitter dopamine.

The chronic use of high amounts of caffeine hypersensitizes the body to adensine, which is why you felt tired when forgot to boost up on caffeine.

I get tired after eating large meals (postprandial hypoglycemia it is called). Most antipsychotic medications induced hypersomnia; avoid them unless you goal is to be a zombie/vegetable.

I would recommend gradually dropping your intake to 3 or 4 doses of coffee/caffeine space throughout the day (nothing 4 hours prior to bedtime). Caffeine isn't a poison, but high exposure for prolonger periods of time will will likely produce negative CNS or somatic side effects. I am definitely not an antipsychoactive drug wowser, but psychoactives need to be used with restraint and moderation to avoid a tragic outcome. Many people lack both theintelligence and capacity for delayed gratification required to use psychoactives to their benefit.

  • That much coffee is unhealthy and you need to cut it down. That much sleep once in a week or few weeks is ok but everyday should be 7-10 hours. Once you sleep right, eat right and drink less, you won’t need vitamins. Simple.

  • wow 20+ cups… Thats where your problem is, not that you fell asleep.
I usually have one coffee per month may be, and even that's when I want to remember what coffee tastes like :D

  • Ever Done It ?

Not personally, but your session was nothing compared to this lady: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/3230083.stm

20 cups of coffee a day. Holy crap. That takes some serious effort.

Are you having a coffee every 45 minutes? By the time you finish one it's time for another!!

  • I am proud to say I saw this post when it had 2 comments. I knew it would make front page one day. We made it brother we made it.

  • Want to avoid this in the future?
    1. Set an alarm for 7am and get straight out of bed even it rings, even if you're tirrd.
    2. Get 10 minutes of sun exposure before 9am.
    3. No coffee/caffeine after 3pm.
    4. Stop using screens by 10:30pm.
    5. After a few days, you'll start wanting to sleep at around 11pm.

That is of course, only if you don't want this to happen again. If you liked it, that's fine. As long as you're sleeping, it's all good.

    • I get out of bed the second I’ve tirded myself

  • I wish I could sleep like this.

Everytime I go to bed early because I'm wiped out I'll sleep for 3 hrs and then not be able to sleep until like 6am. Then get up at 8am for work. Sure 5hrs sleep isn't terrible but not great either.

  • Tomorrows post… "I slept too much yesterday so I upped my caffeine dose to 40 cups…. Now I can see sounds and smell colours!"

  • ive tried to sleep in many times but my body just cant take it…whether i sleep at 6pm or 11-12 (etc), i will always wake up between 5-6:30am the next morning…it's bloody annoying tbh lol

Did you have lunch on that day? Excess preservatives or a lot of msg in your lunch can put your body in that state where you get knocked off potentially.

  • You certainly have problems, starting here: "20 plus cup a day coffee drinker"
Start with some basic sleep hygiene before considering health problem.
    Just Google: https://www.sleepfoundation.org/articles/sleep-hygiene

I'd recommend the book Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker if you want to identify everything that you have been doing wrong.

  • The fact you overslept is your body's natural way of telling you that you don't have enough rest.

You have a sleep deprivation problem. Case closed.

  • Is it the post-binge crash?

  • Sorry to hijack thread OP, but what are known causes for never waking up refreshed, regardless of how much you sleep?

    • You may want to look into sleep apnoea.

    • Depression could be another cause.

  • Another interesting book is The Sleep Solution - Why your sleep is broken and how to fix it by W Chris Winter.

  • Sleep while you can. It is considered a luxury after you have kids

    • Yes. Then when you have time to yourself at home and you CAN nap, you are compelled to do the fifty thousand other jobs that need to be done instead :/

  • Body must have needed it.

    Is this a troll thread?

But anyway, the best story I have when I was stone cold sober and 15 years old. I came home from high school one day and went to bed at about 4pm cause I was just wiped out. Woke up at 6:10pm, felt GREAT, and it was dark like in the mornings at the same time. Back then my clock was a simple LED clock which had a tiny light that is on for "PM" and off for "AM" which I didn't notice. So I got out of bed and got in the shower and then dressed for school (I only ever showered in the mornings at that point). When I got out to the kitchen all chipper and ready for school my mum was absolutely certain I was high on drugs, got super mad at me and no matter all my convincing/pleading my case, I don't think she believed me for a long time that I simply just woke up thinking it was AM instead of PM!

She should have let you go to school

  • I was thinking you're alright, we all need a reset once in a while. But 20 cups.. bruh…

  • Went to bed at 9pm and woke up lunch the next day once, and don’t think I woke up once, , surprising thing is, my bladder usually wakes me without fail at 5am.

20 cups of coffee a day is mental, suprisedd you don’t piss coffee

As a parent with two young kids, I find this thread offensive.

The state of ozbargains forums these days. I’m sorry but no one cares that you had an afternoon nap, maybe this would’ve been better as a fb post?

  • 20 cups of coffee? a day? The average cup has about 90mg of caffeine. So you're drinking about 1800mg, or 1.8g, of pure caffeine each day. More if all those cups are double strength etc.

Mayo clinic say that 400mg, or 0.4g is the most you should drink a day

    https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-h…

    !!!

    • Wait, I thought the Mayo Clinic was just marketing BS..

  • You could have heart problems. For $200 you can buy a device to measure glucose, cholesterol and uric acid levels in the blood. I have one and do checks each month to make sure I'm in good health. They usually come with a few free strips but they are about $5 each but well worth it considering going to a lab to get the tests.

I've heard of click bait but is this post bait?

  • I'm the opposite, having chronic insomnia I am often awake for 72 hours straight and usually only fit in about 12 hours of sleep a week. Don't ask me how I'm still alive, I don't know either.
