Electric Fitted Blanket (Single Size Bed) and Electric Throw Recommendations

Going to finally buy one of these now just wondering which is the best or most recommended one.

Doesn't have to be cheap or widely expensive not paying for just a brand I just want something that is known to not have a high rate of fault or last a super short time.

High quality > Cheap crap

What's everyone using or recommending?

Currently using a small 1500 watt Matrix room heater basically a tiny hot fan which is struggling to keep my room warm at all with these -3c nights.

Only keeps a small part of my body warm usually my hands, body or face so need something for the bed itself as the nights have been getting pretty crazy weather wise and I don't think I can fit an oil heater on my room this winter.. Space limited so it's electric blanket and hot water bottle time.

I have a Big W, Target, Aldi, Coles and Woolworths nearby but of course open to delivery.

Can anyone vouch for any good single sized electric fitted blankets and an electric throw for when I'm on my arm chair using my pc as my fan heater struggles to keep my whole body warm just one zone at a time.

Looking for personal first hand recommendations not just random deals and links as I know how to do that already.

    • I saw that but I am asking for personal recommendations not just good deals.

Can you vouch for that product in that deal?

      • Not those ones specifically, but I've only ever bought cheap electric blankets (from places like Target, Big W and K-Mart) and never had any issues. No moving parts, they just lie there… get used ~3-4 months of the year (SW Sydney) then packed away. Target is easy for warranty returns if you do have an issue.

        • Any break down or issues problems?

I read some of the target ones the multizone stopped working.

I am looking at some target ones now and big w as they are nearby.

          • @AlienC: None. Got a single fitted, single flat and a queen fitted with separate heating controls for left/right. Each one has three heat settings. Must have had them for more than 10 years. Still going strong.

            • @Cliche Guevara: Where are they from again?

              • @AlienC: Sorry, don't remember specifically, (and am at work… so can't tell you the brand) but I'm sure I would only have bought "cheap" ones from either Target, K-Mart or Big W. So I guess what I'm saying is you probably can't go too wrong with any type. It's just an electric blanket, not a complex piece of engineering.

  • I have a Ovela fitted blanket from Kogan. In my opinion it's a really good for the price (~$65). Only downside is takes a bit of time to heat up. Other than that nothing much to complain. Thinking for getting another one for the guest room.

  • I have one of these throws - https://www.sunbeam.com.au/Feel-Perfect-Sung-Cosy-Reversible…

Can't complain. It's worked well over the last year. Easy to wash.

  • From prior interactions, I know you and I are similar in the way we think, and because of that I know you'll probably disregard this advice, but I'll give it anyway:
Don't overthink it. Electric blankets are very simple technology, built to tough regulations, and very cheap to replace if you get a bad one. Even making a bad choice will still see you happy.

My recommendation would be to get an aldi throw. I have one, from the post I made about it a few years back. They are cheap, moderately high in power and feel very nice. Use that while you're researching further. If you find a better one, you can return the aldi one under the 60 day return policy.

  • The Jason electric blankets from Big W are reasonably priced. It's what I bought a family member last year.

    • Why does it have 1.8 stars and only 4 reviews

      • +1

Because people only review it if they have a problem

    • We have one of these Jason electric blankets (king-size) - bought it almost 12 months ago and as we live in Tassie, it’s had plenty of use! We’re quite happy with it, heats the bed evenly but doesn’t get too hot, and we’ve had no problems at all.

  • For electric blankets, get one that is 100W as they heat up faster and make your bed feel toasty. Avoid features like auto-off timers and button press temperature switches so that the electric blanket can be controlled with a smart switch. I believe the Kambrook ones in Big W are 100W and have a simple switch.

  • I just recently bought a cheapie electric throw from Kmart on recommendation from a friend. I can't comment on its longevity but our two cats seem to rate it very highly. They've barely moved in a month.

  • i have the aldi multi zone electric blanket [queen].

i wanted a zoned one in particular as i overheat easily but my feet stay cold. the zoning offers the choice of one side or both sides, then either upper body, lower body, or both.

pros: cheaper than zoned ones from say sunbeam etc.
the lowest heat is a nice subtle warmth that i feel safe to leave on after i get into bed [feet only].
it has a timer so i can leave it on for about an hour or two so i can fall asleep soundly.
it has a digital display which is handy to see what zone you have on and can pick a heat range between 1 and 9.
it has the elastic sides, no ties, easy to put on bed.

    cons:
never gets as 'hot' as my ancient non-zoned sunbeam even on highest temp, though i believe that all blankets have heat protection now so this isn't really a con; but it also takes some time to warm up sufficiently. i have to put it on approx 2 hours before going to bed.

i'm on my third one in approx 4 years. the digital controls have a tendency to fail, i.e one day they just will not turn on. no display and no heat. or one zone will heat up but not the other. the first one failed in warranty so i got a refund and bought another one the following year. this second one failed just out of warranty [of course no idea it had failed until went to use it for winter] and aldi refused to refund/swap. i looked around but i noticed even brand names like sunbeam had reviews where people complained of the zone controls failing, so deciding that it wasn't just an aldi issue i bought another one. this year i tested it just prior to winter (and within warranty) and it's still working. touch wood.

so the upshot is if you're happy to re-test prior to warranty running out it may be worth a look. if you don't require zoning though maybe kmart/target etc would be a better option.

  • Ended up just ordering a few things from Target and using the $10 off sign up promo.

    Got free shipping too.

The Thermals I know are not the cheapest I have seen them go as low as $10 elsewhere maybe even $8 but for free delivery was not too bad.

Will post results when I have tried them enough.

  • using k-mart fitted blankets, 1 Queen size and 2 singles - have 3 heat settings and auto 12 hour shutdown - no issues so far. It's made winters far more bearable

previously we got from Aldi - which had multiple zones - but it didn't really heat up at all, so returned that and got he one from Kmart

    They weren't too expensive
