Was looking for a dumb blanket (i.e. mechanical switch) to use with Google Home, spotted these last night.

      No of course, not. Yes.

      This is why I mentioned "dumb" blanket and not an electronically controlled one (like the Dreamland for example) where in the case of the latter they default to off when power is applied, which would be useless if utilising with a smart wifi plug.

    I was thinking about doing similar (being able to tell Google assistant to turn on electric blanket while driving home), but it dawned on me that the reason there are no OOTB solutions for this is that fire blankets are a massive fire hazard.

    e.g. I could turn it on while driving home, have an accident, forget about it and (some time later) return to a pile of ashes.

    Assume you've considered this and will just be doing it locally but mentioning just in case you haven't :)

      I don't see why you need to turn on your electric blanket that much ahead of time. I have mine set at 9pm, usually before the time I am ready to get to bed. As long as you are home, I think the risk of having your house burnt down by electric blanket is minimised. Also, the electric blanket i have has a timer and it automatically turns off.
