Has anyone seen any current deals on a Synology DiskStation DS918+? It looks like I'm buying at the wrong time of year or something - prices seem to start at around $730 at the moment.

Mwave had them about that price, I just looked. Free delivery on entire order so if you got a number of bulk items with it and cut away the postage then it could turn out well. Stuff like cases can cost a bit to post, but then again if you are eBay Plus or Amazon Prime member then it's no big deal.
Just wait for the next 20% off sale on eBay. Some of these have come in the sub $600 range.
