Cheaper and does the same thing.

@tempura: Pretty sure tp link is a Chinese company hence it's made in China and got imported as well.

              • +5

@tempura: And brilliant is cheaper with same functionality. The price of brilliant is also very stable at $19 at Bunnings in case you want add more smart plugs in the future. Unless you get the hs110 which comes with power consumption monitoring but there are some bad reviews online about its accuracy.

                • -6

@nico8amy: mehhh HS110 why bother with power consumption monitoring for the extra mullah?

So the brilliant is cheaper with less functionality.

You want cheaper, go and import from China.
            face palm.

From OP to DH. Pretty quick transition there.

So are all deals banned where there is a different product, from a different manufacturer, with different features?

          • -4

            @spaceflight: i'm lost

          • +1

@spaceflight: It's a different product from a different? (Probably same manufacturer in China) manufacturer with exactly same features. Both support ifttt, Google and amazon, so it will serve you the same as long as these platforms allow. Basically you pay $10 premium for a tp link brand.
If non peer reviewed ads is what you want, newspapers serve your needs better.

            • @nico8amy:

Basically you pay $10 premium for a tp link brand.

Even if the hardware was identical the TP Link one has a 3 year warranty and the TP Link app is going to be better supported

              • +1

@spaceflight: 3 year warranty is a good point compares only 1 year with brilliant. Regarding to the app, nah. Brilliant has better support because it can be modified and use with tuya smart life app. Have a read on Lowrange and not a bargain's comments below and educate yourself. We don't wanna be ignorant right?

i am using this, i'd say it does the job. works well with google. was looking at the tplink one.

      • +1

and works well with IFTTT too.

      • +7

Brilliant one also has a USB charger point. Just saying its an alternative not trying to Hijack OPost. Was in OW and looking at both these today.

          • @tempura: +1 on this - i have about 6 of these around the house. Linked in with their Kasa App is seamless and good integration with timers and easy to set up scheduling. Also intregrates with Nest products.

Overall very happy with tp link plugs.

          • @tempura:

if you like Honda then get TPLINK

            Is TPLink Japanese ?

        • -3

And sometimes it's the bargain feeling. For something with steady price, it's not satisfying.

    • +2

      What about these?

      They're Brilliant !!

    • Functionally the same but with a USB port. Probably slightly poorer built quality base on the the photo - the TPlink one is actually pretty well built.

My main draw card for the TP one is that I won’t need to get yet another crummy IOT app from a knockoff brand. Yes can avoid this by hooking it up to google, but some people aren’t into that.

      • +3

Yes and no, the Brilliant plugs you can add to the SmartLife or Tuya apps (I personally use SmartLife). You can also add the Mirabella K-Mart globes to the same app, along with a swag of other devices/sensors like motion sensors, temperature sensors, water leak sensors, door contact sensors, cameras etc.

All these can be under the one SmartLife app, so technically you can do way more with the one app than you can with the TP-Link software.

        • +1

And the Aldi WiFi Smart Switches.

Also for those really concerned the Brilliant unit, it can be converted to the Tasmota firmware. Then it can be controlled without the need to use any external server. Control is then normally handled by a local Raspberry Pi and accessed via VPN. There is no option to do this with the HS100.

As for quality, I think it is too early to know. I have had one TP-Link HS110 fail, but that was after 12 months and was the power monitoring, not the switch function. The Brilliant units haven't been out for very long. They appear to be a better design than the Aldi units which have a design error that was corrected in software.

The Brilliant also take up less horizontal space on the power point than the others, assuming you aren't using the USB power socket.

I have the following smart switches: TP-Link HS100 & HS110, Aldi WiFi Smart Switch (2019) (x4) and the Brilliant. At the moment I think the Brilliant is the better option for my purposes.

          • @whats up skip: I concur. Converted a few Aldi smart switches (down to $10 at local Aldi & have power monitoring) and a few Brilliant switches as well.

Running ESPHome firmware now on mine and found them (so far) to be as reliable as a Dlink smart switch unit (standard firmware)

            • @lowey71: Have you managed to get the button working on the Aldi smart switch with Tasmota or ESPHome?

Please direct message me if you like. I can't message you.

    • Thanks. I did not knew about these. Good price.

    • -1

to make normal device smarter; for example, turn on your fan when room temperature is 26 degree celcius or above and et al.

      • +1

Do these have a temperature sensor in them?

        • -1

no, work in conjunction with other smart device, in this instance, a smart thermostat to tell the program that room temperature has now exceed 25c and to trigger the smart plug to be on.

        • Integrating thermometers into most smart systems is a bit of a pain - you usually need a smart hub (different to Alexa or Google style hubs) then get a thermometer that connects to the hub. Even then those systems aren’t always able to to be fully integrated with thermometers in a way you’d expect them to.

Surely a true Ozbargainer would price beat at bunnings to get the item for $26.10

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/tp-link-white-and-grey-smart-wi-…

    • nice!

    • Great job.

    • Bunnings has reduce its price to $28.90 at the checkout. Website still shows $34.90. Shelf price shows $38.95.

      • In Vic, it scanned up at $34. They price matched, then discounted to $26.10

        Box Hill

Did get the last one though…

  • These are very good, I have some of the energy monitoring ones.
I use one to schedule the fan heater to come on 20 mins before i wake up in the winter, much cheaper then heating the whole house up.
The only downside is the size. They are too wide and will prevent you using any power outlet next to it.

For those of you in WA, shipping is $6, which brings it up to $35. Amazon.com.au has it for $35 normally

    • WA does not have Officeworks nor Bunnings?

      • +8

Bunnings: It applies where the other retailer’s final price, inclusive of delivery, taxes, fees and charges, is lower than our price on the day that the price guarantee is requested.

Officeworks: Our Price Beat Guarantee includes products you find online - as long as the item is identical and in stock. When assessing the PBG from online stores we also take into account the added cost of delivery to your location (if any).

I have no doubt that this is a decent deal for those who have a Bing Lee nearby, but for those of us who don't, we'll have to keep waiting.

  • For those that have this/Brilliant from Bunnings, is it possible to control it from more than one device? E.g. I'd like to have it on mine and partner's phone so either one who needs to turn on a lamp or heater can do so. Or is it locked to one device only?

    • In the app you can add your partner as a family member and gain full control on all smart devices added on. Both brands support this function.

  • +1

Can't wait until these things are $10.

    • +2

There you go. thank me later.

The TPLink ones work with OH, not sure about brilliant…

  • Related request:

Although smart switches like these can be made to work with HomeKit via HomeBridge, are there actually any native HomeKit-compatible Wi-Fi smart switches on the Australian market?

The Eve Energy one sold in Apple Stores is Bluetooth-based, and while it is functional, it is s-l-o-w to respond relative to a Wi-Fi switch.

For now, I'm using the no longer sold WeMo switches with the WeMo HomeKit Bridge. Works well, but I'd really like to be using something currently sold and supported. Any options?

    • If you have the time and willingness, get a raspberry pi and install Home Assistant.

Integrates with numerous devices and services. Supports Homekit, Google etc

Can reflash Brilliant and Aldi switches to directly talk to Home Assistant, and thus become Homekit enabled

For me, it turns into the one hub I can manage all my smart devices, no matter what the brand (currently using 3 brands of smart switches, Osram Lightify, ESP8266 relays & temp monitors, Broadlink IR, Arlo, webcams, geofencing, automation)

High acceptability from the better half (wifey) via web interface and/or homekit/siri

These are good WiFi plugs. I use one of these with a cheap $30 electric heater for the bathroom. When it's cold just use voice control to turn on the bathroom heater ~5-10mins before going in there. "Alexa, turn on bathroom heater". Works great.

  • +1

I use these for $19.78. It has USB input on the side as well and works with App and Google Home:
