Hahahahahaha hahaha a dutch oven! I though that was when you farted under a blanket then suffocated your loved one by covering them with the blanket!

"Large rice case….12 litre capacity", that's peanuts for an Asian family. Lol

    • +3

You use peanuts as a rice substitute ???

      • Is it a sarcastic comment or you really did not under @tg147

        • sarcasm /ˈsɑːkaz(ə)m/ noun : the use of irony to mock or convey contempt.

    • 12l is about 10kg of DRY rice… how much would an Asian family eat per person / day?

      • about 3-4 cups of dry rice a day for our family of four

Not sure how much that is translated to kg.

        • +4

It really depends on the make-up of your family. If you are all adults then a family of four probably translates to around 300 kg.

          • @Naed: You must refer to the weights of the four adults, didn't you?

        • When I have a meal with rice I'll have a little over 1 cup of rice, that's uncooked rice.
I'm not over weight either, rather slim actually.

        • A rice cooker cup is around 150g or uncooked rice.

      • We normally buy large sacks of rice, 20kg I think.
It gets poured into the rice dispenser, 12 litres is not going to cut it.

      • We used to use a bin to hold all our rice… Those huge sacks!

    • +1

I mill rice and make sake, so a container like this would be pretty handy.

Homebrew sake ey? Where do I sign up?

    Lock & Lock 12L Pantry Container $17.99

    What's the saving?

    • Normally available for around $40

      • -3

I've seen them for around $10 at the Reject Shop.

        • +7

sounds like a bargain you should have posted

          • +3

@8GB RAM: It was their normal price.

            • @jv: seems like their $10 12L Pantry containers may actually be a bargain then. well spotted.

              • +1

                @8GB RAM: Here's one from Kmart too…

                • +1

@jv: where is the blue trim?

                • @jv: Its the silicone seal which is why you would pay more otherwise I agree $18 is too expensive for one.

                • @jv: We're not comparing apples are we

                  • +2

                    @bugeye:

We're not comparing apples are we

                    No, comparing pantry containers

                • +1

@jv: kmart one is not airtight

                  • @here2buy:

                    kmart one is not airtight

Neither are the bags I buy my rice in at the supermarkets.

                    • @jv: Doesn't make the two products you are comparing the same. You should know better.

                      • @bargainpersona:

Doesn't make the two products you are comparing the same.

They are both 12L pantry storage containers for rice.

                        • +2

@jv: For such an absonant pedant, you sure go easy on yourself.

                  • +1

@here2buy: I agreed with @jv you don't need airtight for rice. The kmart one is good enough.

                    • @ivegan: You do need proper seal. otherwise insects might get into it.
And I use it for storing wholemeal four as well - same thing for it.

                • +2

@jv: Nah. Lid isn’t angled at 45.7 degrees

            • +2

              @jv: Lock & Lock ?

              or sistema crap ?

              • @dcep: L&L shits all over sistema. Had mine for years, still air tight. The plastic is getting worn but 10 year old L&L better than new sistema any day.

    • I saw this months ago at ALDI, around $15, but not sure if that was the same capacity

  • I have been using the 12L for rice for a couple of years.

If you want a perfect airtight seal probably best to look elsewhere but great for rice and other than where airtight is not essential. No bugs, weevils or like in the couple of years in use.

    • I got bugs in the my one from last sale. I would avoid this.

  • What are the griddle pans like? Sometimes I want to grill things without having to pre-heat the bbq for say 2 sausages.

    • They are awesome! I've had mine ~2 years and ended up going and buying the whole set. Really good quality and for the $ you can't find better.

There's some sort of coating inside the cast iron cookware. Normally those things are not good for your health when damaged.
