Audeze acknowledged that the mic should have shipped with a pop filter in January,
in case these are not shipped with one you can email their support to recieve one
(it's a foam ball that covers the mic).

"their Bluetooth connection still has quite a bit of latency and no low latency codecs to help with potential sync issues"

—I would avoid these for any gaming involving footsteps or "sound whoring" as even the tineist bit of latency will throw your direction sense completely off.

literally their only job.. and they missed the target

At that pricepoint, buy some audiophile grade cans with a nice wide soundstage, like the AGK Q701's, Beyer DT 880's, or the Senn 650s (or the Massdrop K7xx or 6XX), and pair them with a decent mic, like a Yeti or Snowball

      Modmic is good too

  • I picked up a pair of these when I first saw the price drop. I've been using them wired with my PC as that avoids the latency issues and allows use of the hi res setting. I've got to say I'm pretty happy, the sound of these is better than most medium grade audiophile headphones.

I would say that the Mobius when used wired would walk all over a hd6xx etc driven by onboard sound, or even a basic headamp.

    • I was interested in trying them out as portable headphones using the LDAC codec with a compatible DAP.
Reviews are favourable in this connection method as well.
Important note: LDAC has 3 modes, connection priority (330kbps) standard (660kbps), and quality priority (990kbps). If you are after CD quality LDAC you need to be using either standard or quality priority mode (mode can be manually set within smart device / DAP settings). Source.

Price is still a bit steep. Also trying to save up for something at the moment. Otherwise I would consider these headphones for music use.

      Audeze Mobius Review here.

      • I have a Sony ZX2 DAP that supports LDAC. Just had a brief play around with it and the sound quality is barely affected, if at all. You lose some of the functionality the AudezeHQ app provides, but for mobile use they would still perform admirably.

The price is high, but considering you don't need to consider the cost of a separate DAC and AMP, I would say it's good value.

        • Thanks for your response, I will consider them in the future.
By that time there may be a updated version.

  • What a shame to read that they only sport Bluetooth for wireless. These seem to be aimed at gamers, so I'm not sure why Bluetooth would have been the sole wireless standard.

    • It could be useful to others if you mentioned an alternative product for those looking for a similar product to you.

      • I guess it didn't look like it, but I was trying to be helpful by mentioning my concerns regarding the wireless being Bluetooth only. Although there are many good gaming headsets, there are not (to my knowledge) any that could be considered 'alternate products' due to the quality of these headphones and the 3D sound, which is an industry first.

        • I see, I guessed from your original comment your issue was along the lines of ‘audio latency’.
I thought you would recommend a wired alternative product / solution etc.
I am lacking knowledge / experience, in computers / gaming myself and know very little about headphones in this category.

          • @thebadmachine: Depends what your needs are in order to suggest a decent pair of headphones. I like Bose QC35 for Bluetooth/listening to music etc. and Astro A50's for gaming due to decent sound quality and good implementation of virtual surround. Just keep in mind that the quality of the audio won't match the Audeze.

            • @Sullie: Yes, so separate use cases, I would think ‘gaming headphones’ buyers would be happy with Astro A50’s (or similar alternatives) like you suggested.
Audeze are doing something tricky with the Mobius. I think in a way it is attracting buyers of ‘music’ headphones with closed planar-magnetic driver design & LDAC bluetooth codecs (at a more reasonable entry-price). It is strange that Audeze are trying to break out into the ‘gaming’ market.
Part of me thinks they went through all this trouble just to get the LDAC codec license (market as gaming headphones with surround sound then Sony said ok).

              • @thebadmachine: That theory is quite likely. These could even be 'test' headphones to see if the market is ready for something quite different, and, if it is, they may choose to revise the wireless standard for something with a lower latency in order to appeal en masse to gamers/movie-buffs. I would certainly be interested in these if they combined Bluetooth with 5 GHz.

                • @Sullie: Yes bluetooth is basically identical to WiFi technology, they just have different requirements and regulations.
Bluetooth being focused on portable devices (efficiency), while WiFi is more for general indoor use (bandwidth).
I see the success of Bluetooth being; the name caught on, and people were more impressed by the technology (small battery devices with wireless).
The technology of WiFi is becoming more efficient so I am sure the two will merge eventually.

In my experience with streaming audio via AirPlay which uses WiFi signal, at first I expected it to drain the battery on my iPod touch much more than when using Bluetooth. In reality though since the iPod touch is already connected to WiFi all the time, the battery drain was very similar to using Bluetooth.

And yes my theory on Audeze Mobius comes from the fact a ‘high-end’ headphone manufacturer with a reputation like Audeze would only settle for the best wireless bluetooth codec, and that currently is LDAC, so I imagine Sony was in the position to dictate strict terms in that collaboration (so as to minimise conflicts with Sony’s own line of LDAC headphones for future release).
