I've read this too. Is this a fact though or hearsay?
Apparently it's true: https://www.forbes.com/sites/wadeshepard/2017/12/13/how-to-p…
If even Forbes posted it without fear of being sued for defamation…
How do you spot a fake ?
For storage devices, do a h2testw and verify it actually writes to full capacity and stated speed. Sometimes the packaging is not as slick, but these days you'll only really tell if you have a genuine side by side with a fake (and sometimes not even then!).
I've had a fake Sandisk microSD off eBay before - packaging was perfect, so much so you begin to think they stole the empty packets from a genuine source. SD card printing was low resolution, you could see each ink dot.
yikes
Great price if genuine but there are a few reports of fakes.
You more or less can't lose money with Amazon though IME (being someone who doesn't break the rules or otherwise be a bad customer).
Huh?
You can't lose money because we live in a country with sane laws and credit card companies who support those laws. Doesn't matter if Amazon tried to do the dodgy, you can just turn around and stick them with a chargeback and an ACL complaint. Doesn't even matter if you breach whatever dumb 'terms of service' they want to try and foist on you, the law is clear that they if they limit ACL they are null and void.
It's scary because a lot of international companies are coming in and not respecting the fact that we have these types of consumer laws. I think it's important for consumers to be educated on their rights in this regard because without challenge we'll eventually end up like America, where if you get bad stock, it's on you.
Thank you ACCC
Yeah we're actually pretty fortunate here when it comes to consumer laws here. Unfortunately many are unaware and don't exercise their rights.
The only thing Americans have is better return policys for products within that early window. I don't know how it works, but I've seen them comment about it on forums/reddit etc. They can basically return a product for a change of mind purchase even if opened and used. Not sure if it's across the board or a bestbuy/walmart thing though.
USA has fairly strong consumer protection laws.
And it's easier for individuals to sue.
And the ACCC is a moronic neoliberal government department that is still pretending privatisation has been a good outcome for you by ignoring reality.
It's a threat to the nation's economy and anybody that pays for utilities.
It's not only international companies that don't respect the ACL. Even if you know they're breaking the ACL and you complain about it, there is nothing you can do to get your money back other than taking legal action. While likely to be successful will end up having its own costs, if not financially, then in wasted time.
Yup, Steam tried to get away with it a few years ago but ACCC was like nope so Steam had to set rules exclusive to Australia.
You can't lose money because we live in a country with sane laws
Nothing to do with that, my experience is Amazon immediately just fixes any issues I have when made aware of it. That includes buying from USA before.
It's like telling a bird it can't fall off a cliff and die because you put up a fence. Sure, the fence is great, but the bird was in no danger to begin with, so why does it need to care about the fence?
You're right that companies like Amazon are usually pretty good with refunds and very rarely do not accept returns.
However, it's just nice knowing that the law is on your side when you one day have to deal with a company that tries to refuse to give you a refund.
so…..anyone still buying this even though it might be fake? This sd card will definitely go well with my s10e
I'd hold off and get UHS3 for better read/write speeds which is what a smartphone like yours is after
ahhh thanks, any bargains on those??
Like this one https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lexar-High-Performance-633x-512G…
Not that I'm aware of. You're generally after the red and green ones as theyre the better ones.
I bought one a couple of weeks back. Did the full test with h2wtest and it was legit.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lexar-High-Performance-633x-512G… with a 10% off code?
Yeah agree, that's a better buy plus also a faster card.
I have this card. Comparing with SanDisk's Micro SD card, Lexar's writing speed is not stable. Fluctuate between 20-70mb/s. But enough for Nintendo Switch.
These aren't fake. Just had 2 delivered a week early.
They just bunch up reviews.
Amazon would never be that stupid to sell fakes. Other sellers selling there is a completely different topic.
What’s the best card for a 4K mirrorless SLR camera?
Lexar 1800x u3
Use a full sized sd if you mirrorless has it
Is there a difference between using an SD and micro sd with adapter? I assume the micro SD would be slightly slower?
Full sized cards tend to have better specs and can take heat a little better
How well would this work in a USB adapter as portable PC storage? A replacement for a USB stick?
Not great IME.
Best to buy a portable SSD such as Samsung T5 these days I think.
I don't think most consumers would get a great benefit from spending a lot more on a portable SSD vs a portable HDD.
They're fantastic for some use cases, but for the majority, the cost outweighs the benefit.
Is this the same one in all the other posts that's meant to be one that's a U3 in disguise?
$90.73 USD? I clicked on and saw $155.01 AUD.
Must be expired
400gb micro sd card. Wowsers
It back, dropped to US$56.99(AU$81.94) plus shipping.
The reviews are… interesting. I heard that Amazon warehousing is shared for all sellers of identical SKUs, so a bad seller could be submitting fake stock that gets mixed up with the genuine stuff, which might be why some buyers are receiving fake units.
