As this has no sd card expansion, cheapest 128gb model is $464

    https://www.tobydealsau.com/en_AU/product/xiaomi-mi-9-se-6gb…

    • +11

Sorry I didn't realise 128GB was a requirement of every phone.
      64GB is plenty for me.

On a side note, just realised between messages, chrome and YouTube I've got 13GB of cache.

    • +1

Don't know why this comment get neg. 128G is certainly much more attractive and practical than 64G.

      • +3

And 1TB is more attractive and practical still.
Look, I get where you are coming from but it's all in the wording.

        If OP had said:

Great price, 128GB model is $464 for those wanting extra storage

        That would've been fine.

Instead OP has (presumably unintentionally) implied that because there isn't an SD slot, it's not worth getting the 64GB model.

        Personally, I'm glad 64GB models still exist. Because I don't need 128GB.

    find mi9 deal plz

  • +1

really 46MP does that work, why are iPhones and Samsungs not capable of that.

    • +3

Funny you should say that because the Redmi Note 7's 48MP sensor is Samsung. It's Sony in the Mi 9 SE though.

The way they achieve these high megapixels is through a process called Pixel Binning.

      • +1

With binning you actually achieve less megapixels (lower resolution) than the physical max available on the sensor. So, should we say that the 48mp exists just on paper in most circumstances?

Multiple sensors, binning and heavy software processing are probably the only way to get around the sensors size restriction unless we accept to carry around phones as thick as a proper camera.

I'm familiar with that as I toyed for some time with a custom dashcam capable of recording in infrared using puny and tiny phone grade sensors (smaller than the main mi9 one). Binning was pretty much necessary in lots of conditions.

      • +1

Isn't pixel binning the opposite? Using a higher megapixel sensor to create a better quality lower mp picture.

    This or v30?

Want to replace an aging v20. V20 has proved to be almost indestructible having been dropped about 500 times.

    • +7

      V30+

    • or thinq 7?

    • LG v30+ due to the water resistance, optical image stabilisation, wireless charging, headphone jack and DAC, plus it's safer with it pumping less than 1/3 of the Mi9SE radiation into your head.(SAR)

Mi9SE has more RAM, better selfie, and main cameras, as well as being better for one handed operation.

    • Personally I'd hold off and get a decent Xiaomi sometime soon. I had the v20 and upgraded to the v30 although it's an upgrade with the better screen to body ratio and obvious upgrades it's still a 2017 tech phone.

Let the pricing wars between Geekbuying and Tobydeals begin….grabs popcorn.

Toby wins this round. As for the 128GB or Mi 9… 😉

      • this is intriguing. tell us more about the Mi 9…

  • How does warranty work for this mobile phone? How long is the warranty period? If something goes wrong, do we need to contact the TobyDeals? How would they fix the problem?

  • SD712 Power efficient enough to make the 3k mAh battery last a whole day in general use?

    • The lower res screen greatly helps the cause.

    • +4

Them be some low scores. I have purchased three phones from them now, without issue.

      • That's good to hear. Could you maybe mention how long they took to arrive? Thanks!

    • +11

Pretty much all grey import stores from China/HK score bad reviews from people who don't understand the risks, lack of warranty, shipping times and so forth. Then again people are more likely to report bad experiences than good… just look at OzBargain's reviews.

  • Can't see if this supports wireless charging?
also is there any Samsung dex style offering for this? I'm actually use it quite a lot, will miss it if I swap brands.

    • +1

No to wireless charging for the SE.

I have this phone. Have had some issue with LTE dropouts (data) when moving between locations in the city, and bluetooth connections to my QC35's have been a bit crap (but that could be the QC35's). However, the build quality of the phone is excellent and the screen is very good. I've emailed Xiaomi about it and they've given me some fairly generic things to try so will give it a go over this weekend. Seems very intermittent though and it really doesn't bother me that much as it seemingly only happens in certain parts of Melbourne CBD (didn't happen on my Pixel though)

Camera is supposedly okay but I'm not someone serious about photography and it seems just as good as my Pixel XL for the most part, but bear in mind my eyes are pretty crap :P

I got it as its pretty much the same size as my mrs Iphone Xs. MIUI isn't too bad but isn't as good as my Pixel (obviously).

At this price I think it's pretty good. I paid little over 500 for mine and I'm mostly happy with it. I got the global 64gb in Blue from Giztop (who I wouldn't recommend- they didn't send my screen protector and I'm still waiting for it to turn up nearly two weeks after complaining).

    • Hi Wally, I have the exact same issue, changing the location and my 4G is gone. it is very disappointing. I contacted TobyDeal to send mine back. (I just got mine 2 days ago) I am on Optus, and my wife is on Vodafone; both same issue. Have you found any solution to yours?

This is a great option over the Redmi Note 7 Pro ($360 AUD).
    Pluses: B28, AMOLED, SDM712, NFC.
Minuses: $60 more, 64GB less storage.

Need a new phone in a few days!

I've had 2 Xiaomi note 3 phones, never again. Nothing but problems within the first hour. Freezing and constant bootloops.

I'm surprised it's a highly rated phone on here, I would of said I had bad luck. But I've had bad luck with 2 of there phones, never again.

Something to consider and good luck with warranty

  • Did TobyDeals provide tax invoice (for TRS / tax deduction)?

  • xioami's price/performance ratio is very high
