    1650………….seriously…nvidia is a joke

Dude, the 1650 is all about being compatible with office type PCs with 300w power supplies or smaller and without a power connector.

      They have a place.

A PC that doesn't have a PCIe power connector, and doesn't have the ability to swap out the PSU, is a very rare thing indeed. I challenge you to find an example of one that is worth putting a $200 GPU into.

        • -1

Most of the ex-business/lease Dell/HP small form factor PCs are perfect candidates. Can find them with Haswell i5/i7 CPUs for ~$200-300 ready to go (8GB RAM, SSD, Windows 10 etc) and these GPUs are plug and play. The 1050Ti this replaces was a popular choice for this purpose.

          • @donnot: but for 200? how do you justify paying such a high premium to use less power?

            • @Ghosteye: I bought a 1050Ti LP card for >$200 for a relative's Optiplex and they loved it as a gaming machine. Not a massive premium - you save a lot buying one of those PCs vs building and they make a great-performing "base" machine.

          • +1

@donnot: Watch the hardware unboxed YouTube video on doing just that. There is no reason at all to buy the 1650

This 1650 is a full height card so it's not going to fit cases that only have room for half height cards.

      • my gtx 770 which is 6 years old now is on par with it. Nvidia is just having a lend

      • Have to be careful with that, even with a GPU that doesn't require 6/8 pin. Not all OEM's are capable of delivering the full 75W to the PCIEx16 slot.

rx570 comes with games is cheaper and has better performance

So at the moment in Australia I can buy a gtx 1650 for $200 AUD https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/456047
The cheapest GTX 1660 Ti deal on ozb was double that, for $399 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/454534
But that deal ended and is now back to $499 https://www.pccasegear.com/products/45528
So that's $300 extra. In other words, 150% more expensive.
Meanwhile, benchmarks record a mere 81% improvement in performance https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1660-Ti-vs-…

I think your jihad against these cards is not warranted. Paying 150% extra for only 81% uplift in performance is not my idea of value for money. Yet you laud the value proposition of the GTX 1660 Ti and criticise the GTX 1650. I know you point to the RX 570, but there are very many reasons to disregard the AMD Card, such as if you wish to use the GPU for google tensor flow work loads. You basically need an nVidia card for that.

And there are use cases that you are overlooking. My own personal HTPC setup inside a Silverstone GD05 case can accommodate full height graphics cards, but it cannot accommodate 6-pin power connector plugs coming out of the top of them, because there's not enough clearance from the top of the case. So for me, this card is perfect and a fairly decent ~50% upgrade over my non-6pin-powered GTX 950 I'm currently using. For only $200? Yes please! Shut up and take my money!

It was this same anti nVidia attitude when the RTX cards were first realised. I bought an RTX 2080 on Day 1, only for every YouTube reviewer to scoff and pooh-pooh about it. Well 8 months later and they have to eat their words, because Ray Tracing and DLSS is absolutely awesome in games like BFV, and many upcoming titles.

It's normal that the value decreases as you go up the product tiers, you are comparing apples and oranges. The 1660 Ti isn't the most amazing value in the world, but it is still worthwhile because there is nothing better than it at that price range.

Yes, every card will have edge case scenarios where it is better. You talk about tensor as if that's some widely used function, but there are little areas where the 570 wins as well, such as more general computing workloads, and uh… gaming.

It was this same anti nVidia attitude when the RTX cards were first realised.

If you think there is anti-nVidia attitude you need to take your head out of your rear and look at the world around you, nVidia are seen as the best by default. That doesn't make them immune to criticism when they release total shit like the 1650.

Well 8 months later and they have to eat their words

lol, funny, I don't see any of them eating their words, because they are still right

    • i think he has published 4 or 5 videos about 1650 and he's going to make another one about undervolting/clocking RX570 vs 1650.

Umart is taking part in the AMD rewards, but you do have to ask.

    https://www.umart.com.au/promotion.html

  • The rx 570 still coming with the free games? If yes do not think twice. Forget about rubbish 1650 high price.
But a smentioned before if you are using a office pc than your chance.

  • Really good price for an RX 570
Nvidia really need to up their game. The 1650 isn't priced reasonably compared to significantly faster RX 570. People will still buy Nvidia brand though, the 1650 will probably still rank higher than RX 570 in Steam survey after just a few months because it's Nvidia.
Btw I'm all for supporting the best value brands, just that this card in particular is poor value IMO.

    • One thing I don't see people talking is the efficiency of the card. I personally picked Gtx 1060 over Rx 580 because for this reason. The running cost of amd gpus are relatively high compared to nvidia. So amd is not always the "best value" if you add the electricity cost.
