Cheapest price I have seen for a google home! Found out through an email but was able to access the deal outside of my account so I believe it’s not targeted

Price match at Officeworks to get it for $95?
Maybe not as it's a direct import, but still worth asking. In the past they've only pricematched Kogan for me when I showed them the page saying the item was guaranteed Australian stock and with Australian warranty etc.
have to add shipping as well. Due to it being direct import.
Do these things work well?
Any time I try "ok google" on my phone, it's never really what I wanted.
I think the key is to work out what works well, and what doesn't. I have a heap of minis, and what works well is putting music on, setting timers (in the kitchen), checking weather and other bits and pieces like that.
Trying to find out facts is always hit and miss.
I've found this speaker works way better than a phone. I can say in a normal speaking voice "Ok Google" from two rooms over and it picks it up. Kinda scary how good it is at listening actually….
Works great with LIFX lights. "Ok Google, turn on the bed room light to red 20%"
( ͡◉◞ ͜ʖ◟ ͡◉)
"ok google, play 'sex mix'"
Ok, playing Flight of the Conchords - Business Time on repeat
@theredkrawler: Something went wrong, try again in a few seconds.
What's the difference between this model and the Google Home Australian Version, which is $139?
Australian one has Alf from. Home & away for voice
It can also at the word "mate" every now and then in sentences.
Does it go "Yeah Nah" for No and "Nah Yeah" for yes?
@cwongtech: Yeah Nah…..
Can I get a version with Pauline Hanson's voice?
hahaha nice
You get this completely useless power supply with it: https://twitter.com/noisymime/status/856411965014425601
(You can just use the original US power supply with an adapter, but I was amused that someone from Kogan actually thought this was a good solution)
personally i would get the JBL 10 over this. I know its $50 ($149 JB HiFi) more but the speaker is a lot better and you can push the button on the top instead of saying "Hey Google".
If you just want a google home then get the mini - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/452529
you can push the button on the top instead of saying "Hey Google".
You can do this with the Google Home as well.
you can push the button on the top instead of saying "Hey Google"
That's so convenient! Instead of saying "Ok Google" followed by a voice command, I can walk over to the speaker, push the button, and THEN do a voice command!
….
Its for music mostly, home wont hear you over the music.
Ours works just fine with the music blaring. Its crazy sensitive. Probably wouldn't win over screamo at max volume, but at anything normal at a normal level it has no issues.
I can't imagine you'd be cranking any of these little speakers that hard anyway. They're pretty rubbish sound quality over all. Perfectly usable for background noise, but even the worlds least audiophile listener won't be coming away impressed.
walk over, push button, ok googl….oh wait.
personally i would get the JBL 10 over this
I have both the JBL Link 10 and google home and neither is "perfect", here are my pros-cons of each.
I would disagree with your claim the Link 10 speaker is a lot better than the Google Home - personally, ive found the google home speaker has a much wider range and clarity with playing music, plus it has a basic 2-band EQ which you can use to fine-tune it for where it is located (i.e. if located in the corner of a room, the bass is generally very boomy - you can use the EQ to tone the bass down to be much more balanced)
With the Link 10 - there is no EQ control of the speaker, so i find my mileage varies based on where i position it around the house, sometimes it's too tinny, sometimes it's too boomy,JBL Link 10 - Pros
* Battery powered - take it around the house, or even with you to the beach/park/etc
* Bluetooth connectivity for when wifi is not available (e.g. beach/park/etc)
* inbuilt Google assistant / Casting support
* Waterproof - take it with you out to the pool, beach, outdoors with possibility of rain, etc.JBL Link 10 - Cons
* Google assistant mics unreliable when it is playing music above 50% volume - sometimes completely unresponsive until you turn the music down
* No EQ control over the speaker
* Lack of low-end clarity and response when turned above 60%
* When left powered on 24/7 (so we can use the google assistant or casting) if there is any internet or wifi drops, it doesn't automatically reconnect (and the wifi light flashes quickly until rebooted and it reconnects)Google Home - Pros
* Ultra responsive google assistant mics - even with music up loud
* EQ Control over the speaker - fine tune the audio for the placement in the room.
* automatically reconnects google assistant and casting services on wifi / internet dropsGoogle Home - Cons
* Hard-wired power only, cant move it around the house or take with you
* sometimes the mic is too sensitive - it can pickup me trying to talk to the Link 10 in another room and then take control over the voice commands and the link 10 disables itself for the query.Nice summary, although if I'm going to get a JBL I might as well pay a bit more for a Sonos One and get on the Google Assistant beta
$18 for delivery to Metropolitan Sydney. Ouch!
Free with shipster right? free trial with shipster right"?
Kogan don't do shipster anymore I believe.
Anybody else team Alexa or is it just me ?
After all the cheap minis going around, I would say just you…
I graduated from mini to home and I like it.
Last weekend JB was selling the home hub for about $30 less than the home. Tempted, any thoughts on if the screen adds some value and is there improvement or deterioration in the sound quality?
I would think you'd have to have a use-case ready for the Hub to make it worth it (e.g. kitchen recipes, digital photo frame etc).
I believe the Hub sound quality is comparable or perhaps even worse than the Mini.
Also see: Google Nest Hub Max.
I have young kids and have been eating at my brekky bar for 2 yrs and miss watching the news on free to air during my dinner, so I stream freeview(fv) to it, which I really like. Yes it is smallish, but stops the kids staring at it too much, and yes I could just use a larger tablet to do this but I find it convenient as it is always there and always on, and free from kids greasy fingerprints. I also have it paired up to a max so when I play music I have great sound from the max and album art and music controls on the home hub which is neat. Hope this helps.
Alright…. I will ask the question that many Mini owners after several giveways want to know.
What is the benefit of this over Mini?
It's mostly, better sound quality than the mini can produce. So better for larger room space areas…i.e Kitchen as opposed to bedroom space. Also, better mic positioning. to pick up your voice from longer distances
Google Assistance ability the same .The speaker in this is better than the mini, that about it. The speaker in this one is not great for music anyway witch is why i recommended the jbl link10 over this or the mini for $18 (spotify deal) if music isnt a priority.
Only wish they have made Google max like a wireless home theatre.
Get 5, 7 or 9 speakers and bam you have your theatre speakers set up.
Postage $20.99 to WA metros,ouch.
Sony Google Assistant is pretty good too, splash proof with built in clock display, price dropping this week. Currently $119 at Myer and Big W etc.:

Expired. Price bumped to $133 now.
Was going to grab this and 4 x smart plugs. Saved me throwing money at something I probably don't need, and at the rate these have been dropping in price that's probably not a bad thing.
I just connect all my google home minis in series…
