Silly question . What do you guys mostly use the mini for? I have the normal home and find the sound quality poor.
Mini seems poor, regular is good sound.
They both sound similar to me, which is pretty average. Two minis can be hooked up together as stereo sound though.
If you have four of them, can they be used as a TV surround sound system ??
Playing music via Chromecast.
Wifi lights are cheap now ($20 at Kmart).
Turning TV off Via CEC on the Chromecast.
Setting alarms.
Writing to-do lists.
Check the weather.
Operating RF wall plugs via a Broadlink RM pro remote repeater.
Sending IR codes to the home theatre receiver via the Broadlink RM pro.
Turning on the projector via Broadlink.
Lowering and raising projector screen via Broadlink.
Just set up a routine where if I say "Philadelphia won the basketball game" it switches some lights to red and others to blue (team colours) then plays the team song via YouTube on the Chromecast.
Looks like you won't have to use that last feature much longer. Go Raps!
wait how do u set routines like that
It's a GREAT radio … loud and good sound compared to most radios. "OK Google, play ABC Melbourne".
I use mine to control my room. Computer sleep, shutdown, lock, restart, and wake up. Lights. Music to my Bose BT speaker. I'm also going to try and control my curtains when I get some time with nothing better to do.
How do you use it to control your computer?
Google home -> ifttt -> eventghost -> pc
Or for waking:
Google home -> ifttt -> server -> eventghost -> pc
@[Deactivated]: which tutorial did you follow to do this?
sounds cool thing to do to control the pc
I thought Bose on,y worked with Alexa? Or do you chromecast it? I have a SoundTouch10.
Also, would I need a CC to turn on our 3yr old Samsung Smart tv via the google mini?
Yeah, Home quality is pretty bad. JBL Link 20 is much better sound than the regular home, is portable, and waterproof. For roughly the same price.
The mini makes a lot more sense than the main home - as it just acts as a microphone/assistant more-so than a high quality speaker.
I keep mine in the bedroom so Google employees can listen to me have sex. Jokes, I don't have partner.
Don't forget! You can do multi-room audio, so you can link several minis together, spread them around and play music through all of them.
Honestly the best feature
How do you do this? Please explain, I've always wanted to do it :(
@Zazer: https://www.google.com/search?q=play+on+all+google+home+spea…
@Zazer: Google Home App, set the speakers up as a group, I have a group for all speakers which I use on the rare occasion I am home alone so the sound follows everywhere when I'm pottering around. Used the deal to get two more to add to the Matrix!
Use mine constantly for:
- listening to the news at breakfast
- adding groceries to shopping list
- weather at night and during the day
- kids play animal sounds and the Wiggles game
- Spotify and my Google Play Music collection
- Turning the lights on and off or (usefully) to a baby night light (since you tend to be holding a baby when you want that light setting)
- timers for cooking are very useful especially when hands are covered in flour or something (multiple timers is a good feature too)
Occasional stuff:
- translations (language)
- definitions of words or spelling
- asking what song is playing when it's Spotify radio
- conversions (Forex)
- playing podcasts
- as a Bluetooth speaker
I constantly use it to ask questions:
- "what does the fox say?"
- "who let's the dog out?"
Hey Google: “I see a little silhouetto of a man”
Siri takes too long…
Hi txchou,
What do you use for adding grocery items to a shopping list? Like what app and what do you say?
Thanks in advance
Google home has a built in reminder list function. just say "add X to my grocery shopping list".
Then I've linked/synced it up to my iOS reminders list using IFTTT. Works like a treat.
My 6 year old is constantly asking it questions. How to spell something and random trivia style questions like tell me about pluto.
We also use it to interact with the tv. "play peppa pig on YouTube" or "play cars on Netflix" or "turn TV off" which is great for when you're going to bed and can't find the remote.
