2 TB QVO at Umart for $330 - $35 CB = $295, it has faster write speeds than the 1TB version.

Oh I thought my information would be helpful to those that want more storage space.

Nice, but speeds are the same as SATA speeds have long been maxed out by SSD's

      • Except that isn't true.

QVO uses QLC for the majority of its storage, and QLC isn't fast, transfering data at 80mb/s on the 1TB and 160mb/s on the 2TB. These drives come with a cache of SLC, which is super fast at 520mb/s, but if you transfer a lot of data in one go, you'll eventually be limited to the QLC transfer speed, which for the 1TB QVO it is slower than a HDD.

I'm an advocate for people using QVO's for game storage drives, Steam for example, despite what I said above as the read speeds are just as fast as any SATA SSD and the fast SLC is 78GB in size.

  • Don't forget to stack with wish egift card and eBay gift card cash reward points for a further ~15% saving!

Sorry can you explain a little bit? How to save more 15%? Newbie question on gift card.

      • +1

You can buy ebay gift cards on woolies to get 2000 points (equal to $10) this week
I think that what he meant

        • +1

Oh thanks, got it. After search in ozbargain, I slowly understand how gift cards work.

Typically, buy discounted gift cards (like $100 gift card by $90 cash) and then spend that gift cards on Ebay (when on 15-20% sale), so roughly we can save about 25%.

      • 1) buy Woolies egift card via CashRewards for an imnmediate 5% savings e.g. pay $95 for $100 value gift card

        2) as @hendyb said, use the egift card to purchase eBay gift card at the store to get the bonus rewards points this week e.g. $100 ebay gift card will earn 2000 rewards points worth $10

So in effect, you only spend $85 for that $100 purchase (~15%).

    860 QVO 360TBW for 1TB model, not 1440TBW (for 4 TB model)
    860 EVO 600TBW for 1TB model

  • Anyone got a view on whether this has bottomed out or will it go lower? Its impossible to predict the future. Just looking for opinions and rationales

    • SSDs have roughly halved in price every year for at least the last 3 years. The QVO at least will undoubtedly be cheaper in 6+ months. I'd say they're both pretty close to the cheapest they'll be for a couple of months though. If you need it soon, there's never been a better time to buy given the cashback. If you don't need it soon, waiting will definitely yield better results eventually. For a primary drive, I'd get the EVO and just buy now (unless you can use an NVME SSD). For slightly more bulk storage I've just bought one of the bigger QVOs, but I fully expect them to be much cheaper later (possibly even an 8TB version for ~$1000 before the year is out).

      • Thank you! This is a serious test of my will to resist!
