Bought a 1TB External Hard Drive USB 3.0 connection - REDUCED to $59 at Aldi Fairfield West.
Model: Medion P83771 (MD 90175)
I think this is a good deal for a USB 3.0 external drive. I have a jpeg of the box and receipt but I don't know how to include them in this post

Thanks:-)
Going by the power port pictured on the Aldi website, I'm guessing this requires a power brick to work? The product details unfortunately don't specify.
Yes, of course it's 3.5" hence it needs an external brick power supply. Otherwise it would have stated 'Portable External Hard Drive' instead of 'External Hard Drive'.
Thanks, but where does it say that it's 3.5in though?
Edit: Reason being is that 2.5in bus-powered drives are also available in 1TB capacity. Granted, this drive is mostly likely 3.5in, but it's a good detail to confirm on.
U see, if you zoom into the socket to the left hand side of the blue one on the hdd, you'll notice that it is in fact a circular DC input. =D

I'll be the first to mention I got mine for $35 delivered from the Staples deal!
But great price all the same.you're lucky, mine cost $35.49…
(the Staples one was Verbatim, not Medion)
Samsung inside.
Damn, had I known the Verbatim had a Samsung inside I probably would have bought it for the bare drive. Oh well.
hm, my samsung wasn't very reliable.
Yeah, I didn't wanna put the boot in for those that missed out…but, (fires up Nelson Muntz voice synthesiser) HA-ha! :p
now i just need to find a cheap and decent USB 3.0 controller… :)
NEC chipset 2 port USB 3.0 cards are less than $15 on eBay, or around $22-$25 at cheap computer shops.
yeah we should all gather around for group pics, Staples Champions
must be from the reduced section, they were going for $70-$80 originally a while back?
this one is supports USB 3 unlike the Staples deal.
staples 1tb is ubs3.0
Actually the Staples deal is a Verbatim branded 1TB USB 3.0 3.5" Harddrive. The internal harddrive is a Samsung F2 Spinpoint 1TB, that runs at 5400RPM, a "green drive".
Are there any entry-level external HDDs that don't run green drives? I thought they all did for cost/heat reasons!
edit: thought it was a dupe but I see you got it $20 cheaper.
apparently this has seagate 7200.12 not the 7200.11 (high faulty model). if i get this too, my pc has seagate,wd,samsung green drives.we shall see which is more reliable:P
Clearly not the only person who gets annoyed by jv! hahaha
He's never been the same after having those glowing prawns a while back
JV, you've done it again ! :D
Seems USB3.0 HDD is getting popular and thinking about to get on as harddrive backup. I am not high tech person and got a quick question for this USB3.0 HDD. My computer got USB2.0 ports and wondering how to make it works for the USB3.0 HDD. The question is a little bit silly but much appreciate if someone can give me the answer.
It'll still work on your PC but at USB2.0 speeds.
If you want the USB3.0 speeds, you'll probably have to buy a PCI USB3.0 card, slot that into your machine and then ta da?
Heh. First he posted using HTML code then realized it didn't work, so now he's using Markup syntax. Spammers learn pretty fast too!
He only lasted 2 minutes :)
how reliable are these aldi drives, say compared to WD/seagate/iomega i.e. wont go corrupt after couple of months?
jasecs above believes this box has a seagate inside… and for future reference, there are only a few drive manufacturers - seagate/WD/samsung/hitachi (full list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PC_hardware_manufacture… )
the drive is then stuck in a plastic box and a brand name stuck on it, eg Medion(Aldi), iomega, etc
A picture of the receipt would have been very welcome. Cessnock branch has these for $79 not $59. Does the box include a specifically USB 3.0 cable, or are purchasers palmed off with a USB 2.0 cable?
