  • Available in May as well. Available for $387 booking direct on QF site.

  • ok i'm planning to go over the long weekend in June but damm, go sat night and arrive practically at midnight and then have to leave 7am on monday morning wtf
what can i do there for 1 day? hahahhaa

    • We stopped in Port Vila as part of a cruise for half a day. Did the market, hired a scooter and rode to the opposite end of the island for lunch. It's not a big place lol

      • hmm well the question is, is it worth spending for 2 people $720 flights then $400 for accommodation to see Port Villa with 2 nights? lol

        • the wife did not approve so guess i don't be going there for a weekend LOL

        • Take a cruise, you can go for 8-11 nights around all the islands for about $100 a day

      • It's not a big place lol

Sure, if you don't venture beyond Efate (899.5km²).

Entire area of Vanuatu is 12,189km².

    • fly up on the Friday arvo and come back on the Monday morning :)

      • and what did you do for the 2 days ? i'll be going there for 1 full day if i did go .. lol

    • This thread needs more LOL

is this a nice dest for singles?

    • not unless youre into diving

    • Wife went with her sister when they were both single, years back. Sounded like a lot of fun. Can go on tours etc to meet other people.

  • Is this place the same size as Hamilton Island?

AMAZING destination if you are single and want to dive or a couple looking for a nice getaway.

It is NOT Bali, Phuket, etc. So partiers steer clear.

    • im married and the wife is pregnant so wouldve been good to go lol oh wells

  • I have been there in a cruise trip. Beautiful beaches. Other than that, nothing to see.

Vanuatu is an awesome place if you want to chill and enjoy a very laid back island paradise.

One thing to note: if you want to go swimming, make sure you avoid Port Vila Harbour as swimming is banned there due to high levels of bacteria and people can get fined for breaching the ban (this includes Iririki island resort). If you stay on Efate, go to Erakor or Mele beach, or join a tour to Sunae (Tranquility Island).

There are a few bars around and some are run by Aussie expats (Office pub, Brewery Bar); some resorts have expats joining the bar for happy hour as well. Adjust to island time - everything takes time, nobody rushes (including in the restaurants); if you order a burger, it could take 20 minutes to make it. Don't use taxis, use the local buses - just hail a minivan with red B numberplate and they will take you anywhere in Vila for 100-150 vatu.

It doesn't matter in low season much but during high season, try to avoid Wednesdays and Saturdays as those are the "shipdays" (when cruise ships dock in Vila and prices go up a little, not to mention the shipload of noisy tourists flooding the otherwise quiet streets).

If you want to get that real Vanuatu feel, stay at least 10 days - the initial shine will wear off and you will appreciate the real island life. And remember to visit other parts of the island, use Port Vila as your base.

    And try the kava!
