Credit Card with Points and Zero International Transaction Fee

I just canned my DJ Amex, so all I have left is a Bank West zero platinum.

Now I have been looking around for an alternative with points but still zero international fees.

Was contemplating upgrading it to the Bank West More Rewards Platinum (which would save having a credit check) or switching over to the ANZ Travel Rewards Visa.
I really only want to have 1 credit card. Esp on the chance I may be applying for a mortgage.

However also looking at cutting right back on in-discretionary spending…which is so hard to do because of Ozbargain. Would be nice to cut back to no more than 2k to 3k a month all expenses and spending.

With such low spending estimates I cant even qualify to get the bonus 75k reward points from Bank West which requires 48k spend over 12 months.

Just missed out on the 80k promotion with ANZ.

Or if I do keep the monthly spend quite low, is it even worth while paying for a card with annual fee just for the points which will take a bit to accumulate.

Your opinions much appreciated!

    • Saw that. However to get one that has that as well as getting points seems very limited! Don't really want to be stuck with flybuys or qantas points either. So its virtually narrowed down to Bank West More or Anz Travel

      • Just get the card that suits the best for Australian purchases and a debit card such as Citibank Plus for overseas transactions.

  • ANZ Travel Rewards is ideal for individual travel but you can only earn maximum points on up to $2000 spend. Points earning potential drops off hard after that. This takes a bit away from it, but the free flight perk makes up for the annual fee. Also no cash advance fee means it is useful for secure overseas ATM withdrawals provided you pay off daily to avoid interest.

    • tempting as that's my target figure to try reduce my spending to. Cash advance fee was why I had the 28d card previously. Got rid of it when they stopped that

      • Just confirming, you can 'preload' money onto the CC then withdraw it overseas up to what you 'preloaded' without fee?

        • Looks like the ANZ travel card has this feature. Pity I missed out on the 80k bonus offer

  • +1

Macquarie Black rewards card will have no international purchase fees from 1 July 2019 - has an annual fee though

    • Hmmm could be worth waiting for then
