Part of the description from the website itself:

Please note these are not headphones

With comfortable eartips and pre-loaded soothing sounds, Bose noise-masking sleepbuds are engineered to keep unwanted nighttime noises from waking you.

Bose noise-masking sleepbuds are designed for sleep. They don't stream music but instead use pre-loaded, soothing masking sounds to cover up unwanted nighttime noises so you can get to sleep and stay asleep.
With three eartip size options, Bose sleepbuds give you an extremely comfortable fit and stay in place - even if you sleep on your side. The rechargeable batteries provide up to 16 hours of use. Plus, the convenient charging/storage case lets you recharge at any time and protects your sleepbuds when they're not in use.
With the Bose Sleep app, you can customize your experience with personal settings. Choose which soothing sound you want to hear, how long it plays, and its volume. You can even set wake-up alarms that won't disturb anyone else.

A previous post gave a lot of details about them, I invite you to check it out.

I can't believe people buy these

      And I can't believe it's not butter!

Can you believe that other people may sleep differently to you?

  • Anybody own these? How do they compare to free airline foam ear plugs?

    • These play audio steamed from your phone

      • Are you being sarcastic? Because they clearly don't.

If you can get trs, it is cheaper to buy these from the current videopro 20% off through ebay, after valuing the Qantas points required.

    • Or if you don't have Qantas points. Works out to be $257 if I'm calculating right.

  • Would this count as 'targeted', as only Qantas FF members can purchase?

    • +1

Is Costco targeted? Is any rewards program's store in general considered to be targeted? I wouldn't consider QFF to be 'targeted' since you don't require anything to be a member; no credit card, no membership/sign up fees.

      • Ah oops, my mistake. I forgot about the 'hide' deals functionality (you reminded me as I had never seen a Costco deal)

These are designed to be comfotable for side sleepers and they will run for 16 hours because they use low power bluetooth to stream from a phone and can run now by themselves with no phone connected. They work well to block out snoring bed mates, barking dogs, rubbish trucks etc. I know they seem expensive but how much is good sleep worth?

No Deal. I sleep for 17 hours per night.

Some people need white noise in order to fall asleep. Like my partner. This would be counter productive for them.

As a side sleeper, I've never been comfortable with earbuds in my ears while asleep.

    • Some people need white noise in order to fall asleep. Like my partner. This would be counter productive for them.

Why? They can play white noise too.

As a side sleeper, I've never been comfortable with earbuds in my ears while asleep.

People who have tried them say they're comfortable even for side sleepers.

      • It depends on the kind of white noise. The frequency and loudness. My partner insists on the fan being on, even in winter, which is so annoying. So one type of white noise might be better than others depending on the ears.

If they can play white noise, I'm not sure how it's any different from downloading a white noise track and using your own much cheaper wireless earbuds.

People who have tried them say they're comfortable even for side sleepers.

I'm not going to call them liars. But with all things earbud related, everyone's ears are different. These look a lot like QC20s and QC30s, and those were not comfortable to side sleep on for me. Maybe these are better for me, maybe they're not. At this price, I just can't risk it. We don't have the same consumer rights as the US and EU where you're by law allowed to return things even if there's nothing wrong with them.

        • They have a 30-day risk-free trial. Bose even provides a reply-paid envelope.

Oh, is that still ongoing for non-Bose-store purchases? They had that for all retailers last year but I thought it ended in 2019.

        • So one type of white noise might be better than others depending on the ears.

Right, that's different to your original statement where you said your partner needs white noise to sleep so this is counter-productive. I agree with your second statement - different noises will work (or won't work) for different people. But without actually trying it, how would you know if the white noise produced by these is counter-productive?

If they can play white noise, I'm not sure how it's any different from downloading a white noise track and using your own much cheaper wireless earbuds.

For the very reason you describe yourself below:

But with all things earbud related, everyone's ears are different.

Yup. There is no way I could sleep with my regular wireless earbuds. The moment I turn to my side, they would jab into my ear as they stick out of them.

Some people can sleep with normal earbuds in - that's great for them. But not everyone can do that.

These look a lot like QC20s and QC30s, and those were not comfortable to side sleep on for me.

Hmm, have you seen the earbuds in person? They're much smaller than the QC20/30. It sounds like you've made up your mind about the fit before you've even seen the size of them.

I too was concerned about side-sleeping, but there are plenty of people who say comfort is not an issue, even for side-sleepers.

At this price, I just can't risk it.

If you buy direct from Bose, or Amazon, you can return it within 30 days if it doesn't work for you. No risk there.

We don't have the same consumer rights as the US and EU where you're by law allowed to return things even if there's nothing wrong with them.

Are you sure it's a law and not just a store policy at certain stores?

  • Cover up unwanted nighttime noise like smoke alarms.

      https://www.bose.com.au/en_au/products/headphones/noise_mask…

Bose noise-masking sleepbuds are designed to mask unwanted noise and disturbances while you sleep. Because of this, they can affect your ability to hear other sounds, such as alarms, warning systems, people or pets.

However, to balance the levels of noise masking and awareness you want, you can set an appropriate volume level for your needs within the Bose Sleep app. The volume should be high enough to mask noises that disturb your sleep, but not so high that you can’t confidently be awoken by the sounds you want to hear. If you are still concerned about your ability to hear sounds while wearing the sleepbuds, you may want to take alternative measures, such as relying on a partner, wearing only one of the sleepbuds or scheduling the masking sound timer.
