Thank you for your honest feedback.
I was tempted to buy a global or furi knife set as there has been so many listed here on ozbargain.

It was an impulse buy for us as well in a shopping centre as we always wanted to own Global Knife Set ( Thanks to Master chef) and were disappointed.. I feel they are overrated ..Just my opinion!

Next time when i need to buy .. I am going back to this one below which lasted way to longer than expected.

I just bought their other Furi set. I've got Globals but for $88 willing to try the Furi!
I've heard you only really need three good knives - one paring, a santoku and a chef's 20".

        • A very subjective issue though where knife types and how many one has is concerned.
I'd add that having a bread knife as well should be part of the mix. Others couldn't live without a dedicated tomato and/or paring knife.
Opinions vary hugely on this matter, disagreements abound.

I own cook's knife, bought in Japan about 10 years ago. Never need sharpening, still sharpest knife in my (modest) set.

      • May I ask what brand it is Alex? And if you know anything about the Rockwell hardness and/or alloy mix?
Maybe it is a carbon steel knife? Surely not a ceramic.

I was referring to my Global knife. Excellent device.

I've still got Globals from when I was an apprentice chef around 20 years ago, haven't been cooking professionally for maybe 10 years but still love them. Get them properly sharpened on a stone to put a decent edge on it and then you only need to lightly touch them up with a steel every now and then. Only gripe with their sets is they always throw in the cook's knife. The chef's knives are much more comfortable to use, a lot meatier around the handle/stock.
