I used my old one for about 2 years, never skipped a beat. Blades are sharp, vacuum function is OK (gets a lot but some gets past as well, up to the claimed 90% sounds about right).

Great price less than half RRP.

Don't forget Shopback for an extra $3, so $47 in total.

  • Would it be $45 with cashrewards?

I bought one of these about a year ago for $71 (with coupons) from Bing Lee on eBay and it came with a body hair trimmer (which is also really good on the sensitive areas).

The beard trimmer is such a good device and it picks up most of the hair that it trims. I use it to keep my rapidly balding head "shaved" and to trim my beard when I grow it out.

Just be careful - the little plastic bits that attach the blade to the body break easily. Philips customer support were really good, however, and sent me a replacement blade without any hassles.

    • Does the 0.5 setting cut real tight ?

      • +1

Yeah it does. Looks "almost" clean shaven

        • Great Thanks

      • +1

It's pretty short - but I have nothing to compare it with.

I mainly use the 0.5 setting for my head because I'm pretty bald.

If I've grown my beard out for a couple of weeks and want to shave it with a razor, I'll trim it down with the 0.5 length blade before I shave it. It's equivalent to about 2 days' growth for me.

        • Thanks

    • Mine had the same issue where the blade clips broke off - unavoidable as you need to remove the blade to empty the vacuum chamber after each use

    • Mine broke too - same as yours. Good idea to try customer service. 👍🏻

  • i got this, it's good.

  • bought the wahl vacuum trimmer to replace my old philips that died, and while the vacuum on the wahl is better, the combs are cheap crap and I miss the extra length settings you can dial in on the philips, cheers OP!

  • Worth it at this price! I own one. Stop halfway to empty it to make it a bit cleaner :)

Yeah nah it's not good. Too weak compared to other trimmers we have at home. Vacuum isn't the best. Only use it for the moustache now.

    • +1

Agreed. I've had both this and the 3000 series (dont remember the exact model number) and the 3000 was better than this even though this is more expensive.

    • +1

Same. Returned it the next day. Too weak to cut through my five day growth.

  • looks like its out of stock at the moment

Toothbrush lady in the video needs to get her own ad.

  • No longer available - shows in stock but when you add to cart, it says it's unavailable from the selected seller.

    Now $69

    • I assume the 7000 series is better. The 5000 is not vacuumed and does not look as fancy.

That said, I have the 5000 series and am very happy. Paid $49 for it in January.

    • I have been keeping an eye on this one MG5730/15. It was $59 the other day and now jumped to $79.

I was about to ask the same question as to which one is better?

  • missed out :/

  • Dang. Next time.

Going to have to neg this product.

I purchased one of these from Good Guys and after about 10-20 trims, one of the side arms that holds the blade in snapped off. When using the regular beard trimmer, you need to remove the blade to properly clean the vacuum chamber and the arms click in and hold the blade in place. I took it back to GG and they swapped for another one. I was much more careful this time around and got to about a year of use (I trim about once a week, sometimes less) the arm snapped again. I was able to use it by holding the blade in with one side with my finger but then the other side also snapped.

I have now switched to a Wahl stainless steel lithium ion beard trimmer. It is a lot more mess to pick up but no signs of parts that will break.

    • Bit unfair to neg a deal as you got unlucky.
I have earlier Philips vacuum trimmer still going after at least 9 years! Used twice a week

    • The same thing happened to me with one plastic arm and Philips replaced the entire blade under warranty without any hassles (they asked for proof of purchase).

This is the only issue I've had with it. Maybe the next model up will use stronger attachments.

I really like it otherwise, and the vacuum is so convenient.

Ok so I got so many neg votes, my neg vote for removed by the system. That's fair.

All I wanted to do was give my experience with this product. Just be careful taking the blade in and out so the plastic arms are not exposed to the wrong stress. It was a great trimmer when it worked, I just think the design could be better.

      • "Negative Vote

You used the neg absolutely correctly. If people like a product they take it personally and will spam neg you though.

  • Damn, my old one of these broke the other day when I dropped it

    Wish I saw this.

  • Dammit. Exactly the deal I was hanging out for.
