Hi OzBargainers,
One item that I have not noticed a sale for is house paint (e.g. Dulux, Taubmans) - does it come on sale?
If not, what is the best way to buy large quantities, and small quantities as well?
Thanks

Do I hear feature wall?
Don't do it. Feature walls aren't in anymore.
What about wallpaper feature walls ? Are they in?
@[Deactivated]: Only if it's got giant red flower repeated pattern on it 🌸
Especially the darker colour ones that take many coats to get back to all light/white.
@ihbh: The previous owner of our new place had a passion-red feature wall in the master bedroom. (They also had a waterbed in there but that's another story.)
I was hoping that I could get away with covering up that wall with a more relaxing floral wallpaper rather than painting a million coats over it…
The wallpaper might give the room a slight 70s vibe 🤔 But anything will be better than the current erotic boudoir look.
rather than painting a million coats over it…
That's white undercoat/primer is for.
Two coats undercoat, then two coats of topcoat should cover irridescent nazzi swazstickas (purposely mispelled), or graffiti outdoors etc.
covering up that wall with a more relaxing floral wallpaper
I had the job of removing wallpaper from half a house, and restoring the wall surfaces.
Avoid using wallpaper is my advice.
@[Deactivated]: Thanks!
@[Deactivated]: The only thing is that I already have 3 rolls of this wallpaper and the paste for them that were gifted to us somewhere in the garage. I don't have any paint….
Edit: The wallpaper is a non-woven one: that would make it a lot easier to remove, wouldn't it?

Nice wallpaper.
My guess is woven might be easier for the steam to penetrate. But I don't know.
Anyway one room is ok, but the whole house is a big nightmare to strip off.
@[Deactivated]: Thanks.
It'll actually just be one wall to cover the current red feature wall : 4.1m x2.75m.
@[Deactivated]: Sorry I was a smart ass above thinking you were taking the piss. To be honest I don't know much about wallpaper but I'm in the property space and see a lot of homes on the market - the best ones have a clean simple scheme throughout, you don't see feature walls of any kind anymore. Wall paper… I know you see it used a lot on the TV shows like House Rules but in the real world I can't remember the last time I saw it used. An interior designer might be worth having a chat to.
That said, what you do in your own house is your decision and if it feels right to you go for it. If like myself you are thinking of selling in the next year or 2 then it's wise to go with what's considered "in" as bad as that might sound, you'll be grateful in the end.
My children want pink and purple (one wanted BLACK for awhile) rooms, ordinarily I'd let them fly with creativity but knowing it's more work for me down the track I'm keeping to the theme of the house this time.
Finally, I know you were asking about wallpaper but in general with paint, buy QUALITY and pay for it. Dulux, Taubmans or Wattyl are the brands I stick with now. There are some that are close for a few bucks less (ie: British Paints) but with paint you get what you pay for, especially if you have kids or pets in the house.
@Click_It: Thank you :)
@[Deactivated]: I tried tidying up my essay post but you replied before I could :)
To me it comes down to whether you are staying or going. Inside 2-3 years like me, I got advice from interior designers and some reno-flippers we know.
5+ years, it's an easier argument to do what the heck you want as fashions may be different by then anyway.
@Click_It: We're planning to sell in 4-5 years and permanently move overseas. We got the house for a good price and did a fair bit of renovating and has added a lot of equity into it.
The only reason I haven't painted over that passion-red feature wall in our masterbedroom up to now was because I was hoping it would be a mood-enhancer. It's not. It's a mood-killer. So it has to go.
I quite like the wallpaper we were gifted. It reminds me of summer in the south of france where we went for our honeymoon. It also, imho , suits the style of our home which is a weatherboard with a lot of vintage charm.
Worst case scenario, I can remove it and paint that one wall to match the rest of the bedroom down the track 🤔
@[Deactivated]: Perfect. There's your answer :)
Not really. You may get items on sale from the actual paint store instead of bunnings. If items are old stock, new labels and cans needed so they will clear out stock.
Don't buy small quantities. It works out more expensive.
Once in awhile
go to bunnings and get "spring" paint. its $40 for 15L. its less than half price of other paints. it also comes in 4L. its made by dulux and is really damn good. we use it all the time and i painted my whole house in it.
Cheers mate
Have never seen this one, will give it a go.
make sure u mix the whole drum of paint really well from the bottom. especially if u just get it off the shelf and dont get a colour added.
Do they have exterior paints?
Can only see interior on the Bunnings site
@Numpty21: no only low sheen walls interior and flat ceiling paint (best flat ceiling paint u can buy)
Shout out to anyone still using paint from Masters closing down sale
I've still got 18litres
How old is that paint? Doesn't it degrade?
I will let you know next week as I am about to crack open a new tin.
Masters used to have 20% off selected paint sales too. Think that where we got some of our paint.
Does paint come on sale?
lol not from bunnings
There are places that sell dented tins and end of line paint.
Have a search
I think they only have buy one, get jelly beans free promotions.
BOGJBF
Buy Wattyl or Haymes premium paints in 15L drums.
Very good paints and slightly cheaper than Dulux (who's paints aren't as good as they once were).
I found Paintspot is cheap if you ask for trade price or join the free trade membership. Much cheaper than Bunnings.
Whatever you do, don't use cheap paint.
Bunnings told me years ago no, they don't have sales on paint.
Next I found they did. So 'warning', they sold me a 10L brand name paint that was faulty, and two years later I had to paint again. The paint was external, oilbased enamel, maybe Taubmans but not sure. Two years and it cracked and started peeling off/flaking.
Morale: Beware of bunnings paint sales.
Thanks all!
On ocasion you may find some getting cleared out.
