My favourite board game! Great for 2/4 players. Great price too. Only problem is you need to get to $50 for free shipping

    • @jakem
any idea as to the difference between this edition and the one that doesn't say 2nd edition

this one says Roxley/ Spinmaster and weighs 907 gm
the other one is Spinmaster and weighs 998gm

      • Yep - the general consensus is that the Roxley version has better cards, but less-detailed minis.

  • The ‘sea’ piece of cardboard is the difference I think.

    • is the sea piece worth $10?

      • Nope.

  • I have been on a kick "crafting" modern games and this is itching to be next. I managed to "craft" a fairly nice Onitama for about ten bucks. Also made custom Love Letter and Coup decks. The kids are loving it over the holidays!

    • pictures to share?
what did love letter cost you to make?

I used the Winnie the Pooh retheme off bbg and a picture off google images for a card back. I printed the cards at work (free) sprayed them with some clearcoat I already had ($4) since I have needed to buy more. Spray adhesive and a pouch of cardstock ($4 and $2.50) gives me enough supplies to make all 3 sets of card (Love Letter, Coup and Onitama - 50ish cards).
I also made a set by sleeving the prints with backing cards. Check out Diningtable Print and Play on YouTube, I used his card method.

        • thank you

          what is bbg?

I do not have the option of printing at work in colour

so I guess getting a colour printer may be a deal breaker

but yes will certainly look at the youtube link

    • Pics. All artwork used without permission. The Onitama cards were cropped from a photo… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      • Nice
How many hours did it take for Onitama

Given that you have to make pawns, it would be more work than coup/ loveletters

Where do you get cardsleeves from?

        Thanks

        • Onitama, maybe 2 hours to lay-up the cards and board then an hour to actually make the cards. The cubes soaked overnight in some dried out childrens paint I scraped out of an old craft set and crushed into some water.
Our first test play was played with red and green dice, "1's" for the students, "5's" for the sensais. If you go the dice route also check out Cubeo on boardgamegeek
If I was starting again, I would probably rough out the first 16 cards on a printout of the Onitama Brainstorming Template, maybe as tiles, the playing card-sized cards are bigger than they need to be.

The card sleeves were six bucks from EB Games, I bought them on a whim with a giftcard… Next time I will order them from eBay for $6.50 for a hundred.

  • Is there anyone from Adelaide who'd also like to get a copy?

  • Spin masters did the reprint for the 2nd edition. As mentioned no bit if sea cardboard I think.

And from reviews the original roxley has better printed components, this spin masters has the better miniatures.

thank you kulprit for the link

    from the link I gather
there was the Roxley kickstarter edition
then came the Roxley retail edition
    and the Spinmaster 2nd edition

    my confusion is because

the "Standard" edition on Amazon is by Spinmaster
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Spin-Master-Games-6039848-Santorin…

the Second edition on amazon is by Roxley (although it has both roxley/ spinmaster on the box)

And this is the exact opposite of what the boardgamegeek link says

the second edition seems to be lighter in weight
neither edition seems to have the sea cardboard from the pictures
