Ok total noob here when it comes to groupees. Anyone able to shed some light? I've listened to the samples of some of the tracks on this offer and they sound awesome.

Want to purchase to download them, can someone explain what groupees is or does, whether I need to subscribe or just buy stuff they sell and download/listen through whatever music app/player I have.

Excited but confused. And not for the first time…

Edit: one capital letter and one extra unnecessary letter removed. You're welcome.

To purchase a bundle on Groupees you have to be signed in so you do need to create an account. It's been a long time since I created mine but I don't think it took very long.

There's no subscription set up you can just buy a bundle or not whenever you like and then you're able to download that in your purchases section in your account. You need to 'reveal' an item in your account first before downloading it.

One cool aspect of Groupees is the trade section where you can put up for trade with other users purchases you've made but haven't yet revealed. Once you reveal an item you can't trade it afterwards though. Also generally speaking most music releases can be downloaded in Flac or MP3 files, there are games bundles, digital comics bundles etc.

I'm not involved in Groupees in anyway just a really big fan of the site and all the great music I've discovered through them over the years. I've bought 100+ bundles since 2015 mainly synthwave & comics.

Anything else you're a bit confused about just ask away mate and I'll try my best to answer.

      • Wow thank you @clubberlang that has helped heaps already. I will try and take a bit of a closer look now and sign up. As yet, not interested in the game keys, but this bundle of music will be something my (gaming) daughter would love.

If I wanted to grt the music for her can I just buy then download and send to her is is there a better way?

Cheers already for taking the time to answer the first question.

There is a gift button option on each item you purchase alongside the trade button but to be honest I've never gifted anything before so I'm unsure of how that process works but I dare say it's probably from one user to another so she may need to create an account herself.

Or you could send her the link to the bundle and she could just buy it herself? If you want to buy it and download it yourself maybe you could sent the files via email?

          • @clubberlang: Thanks all sensible options. Will. Take a look. Cheers once again really appreciate you taking time to reply.

      • I am just thinking out loud here, every music album comes with 2 type of links: direct and torrent. Does it mean that anyone with that torrent link would be able to download, not just me? even someone who hasn't paid for the bundle that is?

        • I'm not sure about that but ever since I've been on there it's always been a known thing that the torrent links are really slow and that it's much quicker to just download things directly instead.

    • It appears to be a site like 'humble bundle' and it is more geared towards steam games from what i can tell, not so much music etc.

The interface is terrible. I bought this pack of music and just accessing them to download is extremely cumbersome and time consuming. Horrible!

Good music though worth the stupid interface? Probably.

      • What did you have problems with? I can sign in and download a whole bundle of music in 10-15 minutes, connection speed withstanding. You just sign in click on purchases which takes you straight to the bundle in your account and then reveal and download in the format you choose which ever ones you want to.

        • click reveal then wait. the the screen jumps as it loads its stuff. then click format then wait. then the screen jumps again. confusing each time the screen moves around… and slow.

          It appears very poorly designed.

Why the **** is there a 'reveal' step!? Waste of time. Why not just download?!

And why isnt there an option to download all your purchases at once, instead of this endless clicking and jumping around the site bs!?

Whatever the case is i want to punch the site. Horrible interface!

Clearly designed for steam keys and such, not music.

          • @Misha Bakunin: The reveal step is there to give people the option to trade things and yes like you said might seem a bit redundant with music & comics but is probably more for the games.

I would say the majority of the users on there are gamers and by clicking reveal it reveals the steam key code. So by not revealing it and putting it up for trade other users then know the key hasn't already been used for activation.

            • @clubberlang: Yup i understand.

Was just a bit surprised at how cumbersome it is.

Totally worth powering through it for that music though.

And i can see that it would be ideal for steam keys.

@Misha Bakunin: Yeah games bundles are the ones that Groupees make the most money on so they do cater to gamers first I suppose then music bundles, comics bundles, audiobooks ones are secondary.

If you're just getting into synthwave (and the various sub-genre's like darksynth) I recently posted in the comments on another synthwave bundle on here a list of artists who's stuff I've downloaded that you might be interested in checking out:

                https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/441432

If you're specifically into darksynth I recommend checking out Occams Laser I've downloaded a number of his albums through Groupees. Glitch Black in this bundle and GosT are some other popular ones too.

                • @clubberlang: Well I already like similar genres like darkwave and dark electro, cybergoth, industrial and synth so darksynth is not far off these and is appealing, but I am not as familiar with it.

I have been listening to this regular podcast "communion after dark" i recommend you check it out, their recent anniversary edition was great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIGm2EdiIH8&t=3353s

And thanks for that link is a pity its expired but I will check out the artists for sure! love this sort of music. Occams Laser… sounds good.

Where i am in Melbourne, Fang (nightclub night) is on i think this weekend, soon anyway and they play EBM / darksynth / dark electro as far as i understand, but I cannot make it that night so I will miss out. But if you are in Melbourne you should check it out, it will be amazing.
