Hi all

Got one of those phone calls today saying "You have won our Fiji Competition", and you immediately think is a "Nigerian" scam or "what strings are attached"!. I did initially.

Anyways, Amex had rung my mobile to let me know I was one of the 3 lucky winners of the Fiji holiday competition
See here https://amexnetwork.com.au/fijiholiday/terms.html

Didn't go into too much detail other than that they will be in further contact with details, and it would appear in the Australian on 23 May ! All sounds hunky dory as the competition was drawn yesterday, and they knew my details.

Only found out about the AmexNetwork through OzBargain, in particular the Coles Express voucher - www.ozbargain.com.au/node/30922

I go back from time to time to see what's on there, got myself a Rebel Sports voucher worth $30 and entered the Fiji competition ! Thus thanks to Jason101 for posting the original AmexNetwork deal for Coles Express, otherwise there would have been no holiday!

Cheers

Congrats Coops. Didn't think prizes were taxable?

      • quite possibly, i'm not a tax expert. i just remember seeing mentioned that prizes might have tax implications everywhere. i've never won anything.

        • Things like that are deemed a windfall - not taxable.

Congrats BTW - I think it's only fair that you take Jason101 to Fiji with you. ;p

On at least bring him back a fijian as a souvenir

    • Love OZbargain, the only place you are made aware of the possible tax implications of a prize you just won :)

I don't believe it is taxable. It's not really investment related. http://www.ato.gov.au/content/00217569.htm There is a note in the t&c on the amex page but it is a standard inclusion on all these types of things

      Quite sure it's not taxable.
I think you owe jason101 a round of drinks.

      Cheers and enjoy the holiday!
