Note that these don't work with Alexa Chime Skills in Australia yet. So it won't ring if you plan on hooking it up to an Alexa device to hear the doorbell.

      People use Alexa in Australia?

      • +2

        I do

Was going to pull the trigger and get one but the reviews aren't great especially when it comes to the lag between the visitor pressing the button and occupants being notified. That sounds like a major flaw unless it has recently been fixed.

    • +1

I am still facing the lag

    • Yeah, I've got a ring DB. Sometimes the lag is atrocious. Don't know if they are planning to get aus server presence, that may help.

I got this for the last deal for around $200 and I'm experiencing all kinds of problems with the product.

  • Anyone got the floodlight? Saw it on sale at HN and was going to be price matched at Bunnings

    • I’ve got the spotlight cam because the floodlight can’t be mounted under eaves. I really like it.

    • Floodlight is excellent, video quality is good, alerts are instant and the floodlights are really bright.

    Knock knock. Who it is?

    • +1

the intent of this is you wouldn't have to ask "who is it?" because you'll be able to see

  • Seems to be really popular…. with thieves ripping these things off the wall and taking them.

Also, requires a monthly subscription to store videos- with no option to store and record locally.

And there also seems to be well documented delays in having the Ring Doorbell (a cloud device) contact Ring's servers before contacting you, so on occasion by the time you are notified that someone is there, they have already left by the time you get to the door.

    Yeah, no thanks.

From experience or your are just trolling?

      • There are other options to your loaded question of course, but that doesn't suit your narrative.

Let me see if I can do one:
Are you a dissatisfied customer who's already purchased this device and now has remorse at its failings, or are you someone that wishes to buy this device based purely on price point and will completely ignore reviews available online that suggest this isn't the best option when it comes to front door security?

        I think I nailed it :).

        • +1

So you are basing you advice off opinions and experiences of others.

Maybe instead of being highly subjective, provide better alternatives and list why. Just saying some random opinion and running away helps no one.

      From their website:
"Ring Doorbell is equipped with proprietary security screws that keep the device securely mounted. If your Ring Doorbell is stolen, please contact us with a police report and we will replace it free of charge."

But I agree regarding the subscription to store videos and also the reported delays, it's definitely put me off buying it.

I have had a ring doorbell pro for around 2 years and have had no problems. Delay from pushing the button to getting the alert is around 2 seconds but I also get a motion alert as they walk up the driveway before they even press the button. It may come down to quality of internet speed.

Why would ripple buy this when the skybell trim doesn’t require a monthly subscription?

    • Good question ;).

    • +1

Skybell needs to be hard wired for power, the ring is probably the best battery operated solution even if it does lag a little or have a $40 a year subscription which isn't too bad.

      • Thanks that is a key difference! Battery has it’s pros and cons.

  • Anyone use this in combination with a smart door lock? Keen to get both and some level of integration would make sense.

  • Just googled and apparently this doesn't work with Google Home. Pity.
