  • I’ve had this model for 2-3 years now for DIY project, kid pool etc. works well, no hiccups, super handy.

Never seen them this cheap tho!

Keep your eyes peeled, sometimes they come with tools too 👌

  • what's the Aldi deal?

    • it's also $129 ($20 lower than last year's price). Wait til they go on clearance, you can get them for $99.

        ah, here it is:

now that I have the details, I think I'll get the Bunnings one…

        • Same specs but peace of mind with the Ryobi and Bunnings?

          • @CVonC: Both of those, plus "workzone" looks like some cheap "no-name" brand. Have heard of it before, but not for a long time, I suspect they were dropped by other retailers in Australia.

We all see this most weeks.

Why do people still like bunnings? They only pretend to be good value yet everyone loves them.

Edit: Within seconds, the bunnings reps down voted me.

    • I think the pricing is fine.
Besides, don't have much competition when it comes to reliable stock.

I am a particularly huge fan of their customer service. Nothing like needing to find something quickly or needing some expert advice. You know that you will always have someone ask you if you need a hand moments after you start wandering and without question they will have the answers you need.

I also think this is really important and am happy to pay somewhat extra for industry professionals to be always available.

The problem is Masters - Every tradie I know agrees that most simple things like screws, bolts, fittings, joiners, tape, glues and other adhoc items were nearly 25-50% cheaper while Masters were still around. I want to like bunnings, the layout and size is perfect but they go from cheap bargains to drive out competition to ludicrously overpriced everything in times like the last couple of years.

Aldi has the might to compete very intermittently so just out of principle, I always support Aldi until I find a good reason not to.

I find Bunnings more expensive and less stock of things I tend to want, specific fasteners for example, than my local Mitre10.
I will also use specialist stores whenever price is close for general things and when I want real advice there is no question. In case it was clear enough, I was trying to be over the top enough to make it clear that Bunnings service tends to suck. It used to be good, I remember when I had a plumbing question and the qualified plumber in the area took the time to ask questions and walk through a solution. I don't know the last time I had a staff member even know what I was talking about let alone go and ask someone who could help.
It has been reported numerous times that the margin Bunnings makes is more than any other retail sector, or thereabouts.

I try find items I need on Gumtree and Ebay instead of Bunnings. It keeps small business and individuals earning good money and mostly costs less at the expense of a little more time.

          • @namgib: The margin that bunnings makes is more because they also get better deals from their suppliers. They have pretty much become the Maccas of the the home improvement industry in Australia.

If Maccas tells a farm that they will no longer source from them, they could pretty much push a farm to bankruptcy. Same with Bunnings their purchasing power is so massive that they can turn around and force the suppliers to provide them with a better price.

Also people often think that "bunnings is taking the hit when they do a special like this", almost 99% of specials that is run by retailers is actually paid by the supplier, its a supplier rebate / promotion, therefore the retailer will get compensated for this. For example. Coles running a buy 1 get 1 free coke, that free coke actually comes from the supplier not from Coles' pocket.

Sadly Masters didn't make it in Australia, but that was unlikely anything to do with Bunnings. It was just bad management and hiring processes from Masters. They doomed themselves. I hated going to Masters, because all their staff only cared about commission not customer service. I remember walking down an aisle in Masters i would get asked at least twice by somebody if they could help me and when i grabbed something off the shelf they would rush over and say "oh that is a very good tool, let me see if it will fit your purpose" then they will quickly write their initials on it and give you a stupid marketing spiel about how you choose correctly.

      • lol nice one

    • I don't like bunnings or any business for that matter. It's just a transaction. Bunnings biggest selling points is that fact that it's convenient and very easy to return exchange. For every 10 Bunnungs I drive past I may come across one other 'random' hardware shop.

That's because Bunnings killed their businesses off in the 90s.

I'm with you, for me it's just a transaction, but I can't understand the people who consider Bunnings as some sort of Australian hero when they've been responsible for wiping out almost am entire industry of small businesses.

    • I was waiting for Bunnings to match the Cocoon Smart Door Bell but was sorely let down by Bunnings when they didn't match the price with Ring. LOL

  • The Aldi Compressor sells poorly around these parts. They usually clear them at 50% off after about a month.

Why is the normal price the same with this? Isn't this one better value unless you already have the full air tools kit.

    • Cause that one comes with the kit

  • Aldi's 5 years warranty.
