390

Saw signs for this in my local store tonight.

50% off all blu-rays when you purchase a blu ray player.

Limit 30 titles per customer, no duplicates allowed.

Blu-Rays had to be purchased in the same transaction as the player.

Includes PS3 but not PS3 games.

Didn't look in store but the cheapest Blu-Ray player online is $99.

    Wow 30 is a lot. I wish I didn't have my PS3!

I just love this comment. Kids and the internet, you have got to just love it. Instead of a dog, kids now have a PS3 and the internet.

  • +3

then again the ticket price on a lot of their blu rays would need to be 50% off to buy………although if you could pre order star wars 6pk and the new LOTR extended editions it would make it worthwhile..

  • +1

It includes any type of blu-ray disc: movies, box sets, TV shows, 3D & Music. Spider-man trilogy for $10? Yes please. Cheapest blu-ray I could find was $12.98 which of course comes down to $6.49, sweet deal.

  • dang bought my soniq bray player few months ago.. maybe i should refund it? jb u done it again…

    • Good luck getting a refund on something from JB…

  • This is a good offer if you are buying a cheap player and go hardcore on the blu ray purchases. The savings could almost be worth buying the player. Otherwise Sanity's deal is still pretty attractive.

  • +3

not that great a deal. if you look on amazon.co.uk, most of the blu-rays will prob already be <50% of the price. plus they have the same blu ray region so you're getting the exact same thing

    • -8

But that is UK region. This is for AU region Blu-rays

      • +3

Blu-ray regions are different to DVD regions. UK and AU are both in region B (for Blu-rays).

  • anyone want a ozbargain meetup when they go buy their bluray player. I don't think anyone is buying 30 blurays so share the love people. Please bring cash people.

On another completely different note, anyone from Canberra buying a bluray player soon, let me know because I know exactly where to buy one

  • Dammit! I bought a $95 soniq Blu-Ray player at JB YESTERDAY!

    • +3

take the receipt and ask them for the deal!

  • I hate my current Kogan bluray player (lousy infrared signal & software) but it is region free (for blurays, not just DVDs) so I have to put up with it :( Otherwise I'd be all over this deal

  • +7

I'd rather shop at Amazon UK. Free shipping ftw.

  • +2

just ordered alien anthology for $27 from Amazon like 2 days ago, sorry JB, you haven't done it again

    • +2

Depends what you want to get really, you could buy The Incredibles & A Bug's Life bluray for $10 each for example - prices which can't be matched via Amazon.co.uk

      • You haven't really seen blu-ray unless you've watched a recent Pixar one.

  • +1

true but that's in rare cases and the difference isn't much - certainly nowhere near the $100 it'll cost you to buy the player

    • It is if your buying 3D blu-ray movies which are nearly $40-$50 each

  • Nice deal! I just wish I was closer to a JB store or the deal was online, too.

  • +3

just bought 24 season 1-8 dvd box set for $66 from amazon uk with free delivery that
jb is selling for $272.jb always overpriced.

  • Wish I havent got two PS3 already otherwise I would have bought another one with this sweet deal.

Just be careful with offers like this from JBHIFI. I agree 50% sounds like a huge discount. However, it is the price that you pay that counts, not the discount %. A recent example can be seen where "The Godfather trilogy on Bluray" was offered by www.amazon.co.uk for the equivalent of $22.95. This same box set is still being sold for $139.95 at JBHIFI. So lets break this down: JBHIFI 50% off $139.95 = $70 vs $22.95 at Amazon.co.uk. Please refer to this ozbargain posting: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/43723 . JB you have done it again.

  • +2

Box sets won't be cheaper but Individual blurays specially 3D may come out cheaper for people.

  • +2

I wouldn't buy from JB even it is 60% off. They are just far more expensive than amazon.

  • -1

There are some reasonable deals in the current (starts 18th May) BigW catalogue. An example is Kalifornia at $19.72 on Bluray. JBHIFI online is selling this same disc for $26.99. JB you have done it again. JB not as cheap as they used to be. To quote lazed a ozbargainer: http://au.finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=JBH.AX&t=my&l=on&z=l&q=l&…

  • +2

i want to join in on everyone and just say: JB, you've done it again.

    ahhh, feels much better now.

  • If only the entire ghibli collection was out on bluray now.

Would go buy the lot of them.

  • +1

A lot of the pricing hate is misspaced here. You should be directing the hate to the Australian distributors and movie companies. JB don't import the goods or set the buy prices. And where else an you walk into a store any day of the week and find the range and neatness of the layout of the movies. A-Z and catagorised. Or just getting a staff member to find the title or look it up at other stores for you. Try doing that at kmart or bigw. Lol. Those places or just a mess.

    • If you look at alot of the blu rays & dvds on sale in jb they are 'made' locally. The address on the retail packaging is Australian. I don't know how much is actually manufactured locally, compared to how much is imported & just packaged here. But the point is they are not necessarily the same product as being sold on Amazon UK. Some titles available here are very different to UK release versions (in terms of 'extras'on the dvd, etc). Some titles available here aren't available in the UK eg. Foyles War on blu ray.

Despite these apparent differences however, once people realise dvds & blu rays cost alot more locally than the imports they will totally not care why. They will buy the UK imports because they're alot cheaper. The best price is ultimately all shoppers care about.

I really doubt JB will bother selling alot of movies within 2 years. There is no future in it with the prices the UK sites are competing against each other at.

I put it to you that JBHIFI allegedly is engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct with their % off sales. The prices are inflated before the discount. JBHIFI share price is evidence of the allegation that they are ripping off the Australian public. If JBHIFI was simply paying too high a price from the Australian distributor, then why are their profits so high. JBHIFI is not the victim, we are.

I'm a very regular JB shopper and I just don't believe this to be true. I've bought 100+ blu rays from JB, 90% of which were bought during their various ' buy two get one free' or 20% off software sales and I don't see inflated prices before or after the sales.

Even now, a lot of their blu-rays have been reduced to $15.95 - after this 50% deal this means you can pick up a pretty generous selection of $8 blu rays.

      • -4

The assertion that you cannot see the differences in price between JBHIFI and www.amazon.co.uk does not mean there are no differences. Just image how much more money you would still have, had you followed ozbargain advice.

        • +3

I said nothing about amazon.co.uk. Just saying I don't believe your original point is true.

    • +4

Its called Volume rebate and low overheads.

And comparing a bricks and mortar aussie company to an online only multinational company is just faulty logic. Go and learn about basic business principals and economics before you run your mouth, because you have no idea what you are talking about. waits for the overly defensive comeback

Sure we all like a bargain and this is a site for mega tight arses, But personally if the price is reasonable I'd rather help keep an Aussie in a job. It is called OzBargain after all, not UKbargain.

    • When local aussie companies done well (ie. huge profits), people always whinging and said they've been ripped off. When aussie companies struggle (ie. make a huge loss), people always whinging and said they need more jobs. What do you want really? seriously if they made huge profits, good on them. They can open more stores and hire more people.

    • Why do Harvey Norman make alot of profit. Because about a 3rd of their sales are big ticket items on finance schemes. Without those sales their revenue would be much, much lower. Same with JB I suspect. I doubt the bulk of their sales is from dvds/blu rays.

So in conclution we all hate JB and love Amazon.

    • Haters gonna hate.

      • -2

        Is this your best effort?

      • Forrest please stick to the chocolates, while the adults engage in pseudo intellectual discussions.

  • EDIT*

    In store only, uber lame

I said nothing about amazon.co.uk. Just saying I don't believe your original point is true.

Response: JBHIFI need more customers that blindly believe their shops are "full of bargains". Well, ignorance is bliss I suppose, for some.

Ok, I will level with you. I too want to believe: JBHIFI has the best prices. However, I cannot refute all the evidence that they are overcharging us. JBHIFI is a big part of why we pay so much for dvd / blurays in Australia. We need international competition to highlight how much Australians are being overcharged. Please, no more apologists for JBHIFI's behaviour.

    • Talking about two different economy mate. Not saying we are not being overcharged. But just saying comparing apples and oranges won't help much.

  • +1

wow..can't believe it.jb is selling Ninja Assassin (Blu-ray) for $48 but only $16 at sanity.even with 50% off you are still paying more at jb.

    • Keep up the good work. There are many more examples on the JBHIFI website of huge rip offs. Seek and ye shall find. More contributions welcome.

      • Perhaps it's just me… but you seem to be pointing out single examples where JB is beaten in price by a fellow australian competitor. As a guess, I'd say JB's software range is in the 100's of thousands.. and just glancing over the new movie releases on Sanity's website I can see every price is beaten by JB on their website (sometimes by mere cents).

I don't know if you're implying (jn your previous post) JB has monopolised the music/dvd/game market in australia or not. If that's not what you meant, then surely you understand all competing retailers are equally to blame.

      • oh, and apologies - the message is intended for johnd320.

  • please click on http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/support.aspx?q=Blu-Ray&source… to see how jb is overcharging us.

  • How old is the $48.99 retail hotlinking tatic? You gotta dig thru shit until you find diamonds. You gotta swallow tar until you digest rubies!

I'm sick of (edit - personal attack) always complaining about your new releases only being at retail price. There is better and cheaper stuff available out there then your lady gaga & justin bieber blu rays.

Prices are different in every business, some are cheaper here or cheaper there, go figure..

  • Just remember not all people are ozbargainers.some people will order on line from that inflated prices from jb.that where they overcharged innocent customers.if jb is honest enough why not change that inflated prices on line.u can order $49 one now on line and u know what jb will sell it to u happily

    • +2

Kluger - you've lost the plot whats with the 40 or so multiple posts which I have spent 5 mins deleting

  • Just bought Soniq Blu Ray player QPB302B from JB for $69. The Spiderman Trilogy on Blu Ray was already a bargain at $19.98 but due to the 50% off sale, I was able to get it for $10 bucks. So all up the player and the Spiderman Blu Ray Trilogy cost me $79. When CNET reviewed this blu-ray player late last year they said 'Great performance, decent build and a good feature set make the Soniq QPB302B Blu-Ray player an absolute steal as one of the most affordable BD players on the market at the moment'. Similarly Goodgearguide says 'An ultra affordable blu-ray player that punches above its weight…and easily matches other entry level players for image quality'. Mind you these reviews were done when the RRP was $149. Hence for $69 I consider it be some sort of bargain.
