Ryobi Airwave 2 in 1 Air Brad Nailer and Stapler $29.89 @ Bunnings

520

Hey folks any one got the latest Aldi catalogue is this a price match?

If you have a air compressor this seems like a good deal its a 2in1 Brad Nailer and Stapler. Not really sure why Ryobi hates brad and wants to nail him or her?

Any ways this may come in handy more so than the usual nail guns for some. I've been meaning to staple carpet down. Also comes in handy for popping of twice as many shots at ya mates :P
Usual price is $89 and now its reduced to $29.89.

Features

  • Fires C1 series brad nails and 6000 series narrow crown staples
  • Brad nail range: 15-32mm, staple range: 16-32mm
  • Depth adjustment knob to control depth of fire
  • Magazine capacity: 100 nails/staples
  • Includes nitto-style fitting

Bunnings also reduced the price on these items.

  • Whats the normal price? On the compressor

  • +5

Pretty short brads. Best off looking for one that will do 50mm nails.

  • Can it be used for decking? Sorry don't know much about nail guns but like to learn.

    • +6

No, not really. These are very small nails for finer work like trim and furniture, etc.
For decking I always prefer decking screws over nails anyway. I like the look of nails but they tend to lift over time as the wood expands and contracts with weather.

Further to @binary01's comment. You'll want either the Ryobi Airwave Clipped Head Framing Nailer, or the Airwave Coil Nailer for that kind of work (or equivalent in other brands).

        • …and further to this comment, a framing nailer is nice- but you'll get much more versatility in a coil nailer. Unless you know you're going to be doing a lot of framing work. But even then, a coiler can do framing anyway. Just a little less convenient with the 45 angle shot. Plus a coiler will do decking… but as suggested already using decking screws are the way to go for longevity.
Mind you- decking with a coiling nailer is FAAAAAAAASSSSSTTT!

          • @UFO: What do you mean by "more versatility"? Both types of nailers can pretty much do the same things. The main differences are that coils hold more nails, while the framing (or stick / clipped head) nailers can be lighter (partly because they don't hold as many nails of course).

      • Thank you

    • +1

I wouldn't use nails at all although they are quick screws or specific deck screws hold that much longer.

It's inevitable that even the screws loosen over time but they are easy to just tighten up

      • +1

This. Avoid nails in decks. They just don't hold over time. You also have issues with the heads popping up if you need to sand for refinishing.

Small cost and time investment at the start by using stainless screws will pay off in the end.

Good for stapling papers together at the office :)

Especially if you want them permantly fixed to your desk!

  • I don't know much about air compressors but I have this one

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-1100w-inflate-it-compresso…

Will this air comp work with this nail gun. The air compressor is 116psi or do I need those tank type ones to work with this gun

    • +2

Interesting. I didn't know you could get an 'Inflator' with a Nitto connection. Anyway, although there's no reason your Inflator couldn't make it work (allbeit not 'properly') you really need the tank to keep the constant pressure up otherwise that Inflators compressor/pump would be running non-stop! It would probably be using the hose as a quasi tank :) Might be OK for very, very small one-off jobs but yeah, go for a tank compressor. No need for anything big though, just a cheapie will do. The large tank compressors are really only for those tools that need constant and/or controlled air… like an angle grinder or spray gun.

    • +4

It'll work for 1 shot, then you have to wait while it repressurises. You really need a tank when working with nail guns.

    • +2

      Air consumption 0.76 L/cycle at 6.9 bar (100 psi)
      Working pressure range 4.8 - 8.3 bar (70 - 120 psi)

Max free air rate on your inflator is 180L/min. You could probably get away with it, but you won't be speed nailing with it…

    • +1

Might work but sooner than later you'll kill that inflator. Like mentioned even a small 5l tank will do the job, it just refills more often

    • I was going to get one of these the other week they where cheaper then but decided even having a small tank is better. It will be a pain to have the compressor constantly running seeing as its a direct drive system its loud.
Wanted a blower to clean with my mini blower doesn't always do the job.

  • For the times when the basic manual staple gun won't do, what is the next tool up to quickly fix things up? Nail gun comes to mind but they seem kinda pricey, although just having a browse there is a mini-version like this:
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-home-12v-staple-nail-gun-s…

Are these worth it? Just looking for something a bit more convenient than digging up the drill, bits and screws.

    • It depends entirely on what you are trying to do…

    • +1

Not worth the extra $72 for the kit

This is a very good deal. I was looking at buying the brader and compressor last month but got a great deal with total tools. This is a perfect system for a DIYer looking to do fine woodworking.

  • Cheers. Easter sorted.

  • Would this be suitable for stapling down villa board to floorboards for eventual tiling?

    • It should most definitely work go that application. As long as you don't try to go through the joists if they're hardwood (nails probably wouldn't be strong enough for that?)

    • I vote no.

You should be using ring shank nails in addition to some glue, otherwise the boards may move, and generally if you follow the manufacturer's instructions each sheet of tile underlay takes around 90 nails.

Your best bet is probably to hire or buy a second hand coil nailer. I've just done 108sqm with a coil nailer, and after around 4000 nails, there is no way I would suggest using this gun (which I have bought to do my architraves).

  • Nice little gun! Quite a few left at the new Newstead QLD store for those Brisbane folk looking.

Spot on with the usual Aldi price match.
Aldi has a large range of compressor gear for sale on the 20th including a $29.99 nailed and a $129 50l compressor.

Here is the page from the catalog:
    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/102310/68280/aldi.jpg

    • Thanks for the upload i have not seen the new catalogue.

    • +4

Yep. Upped full catalogue here if anyone wants it.

  • Plenty left at Springfield QLD

  • Will this work on pailling fence height extension type jobs or I need something more mean??

I need to attach these to existing fence

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/lattice-makers-2400-x-500mm-corr…

    • I can't answer that but based on the comments above, probably not! But I'm writing this so I can check it later, as I'm about to replace a whole bunch of fence pailings and I want to know a cheap and fast way to do it. I've replaced sections by hand with hammer and nails - takes ages :( Whatever works for those extensions will work for me too :)

  • Interesting the Aldi air compressor has a 5 year warranty vs the 2 years on the Ryobi what one would you choose?

    • This is a bit of a generalisation based on experience with the brands (about 5 year old Ryobi and newer Aldi) but I find the Aldi gear is more likely to break in the warranty period but I have never had an issue with getting it replaced/refunded under warranty.
My Ryobi gear has generally seems tougher but if it does break I have had issues with getting it sorted under warranty.
Personally for budget non-critical gear I would get the Aldi with the 5 Year warranty.
      YMMV

  • can you quick scope with it

  • +1

for those who dont know, this nailer is for thin nails used for skirting etc. its not your normal nail gun used for framing etc.
these ones use slim tiny nails

    • Wished they put the ryobi 16ga brad nailer on sale….
Never really trusted the 18ga for walk in wardrobe fitouts…

  • +2

These are more prone to leave a mark on the trimming than the C1 only bradder like the one I have… http://www.woodworkforums.com/f13/ryobi-3-1-air-nailer-leave…

    So if you don't need a stapler…

    • Yup i returned mine yesterday. Got a bargain off gumtree on some professional used ones… which works perfectly.
From research, all 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 has this issue due to all the features sharing 1 "hammer" mechanism. So it causes the marks.

    • Thanks for pointing that out. Was planning to pick one up but I'll be doing done cabinetry and furniture work, so can't live with the marks a 2-in-1 would leave behind. Ended up getting the Ryobi triple pack with framer (which I wanted anyway), bradder and stapler (and put a special order in for the compressor, add they sold the last one just as I was walking in).

  • Hi Dudes, If I buy all the items linked (Compressor, ratchet and Nail gun) - what Hose do I need? The compressor does not state it comes with one and the accessories surely do not!

    Thanks,

    • Don't Worry, the ratchet has gone up in price and the compressor is out of stock in the only Bunnings for 400km.

      • Just put in a special order to get it at this price
