  • I'm hoping public transport will be free as well? Driving into Sydney CBD is like a labyrinth with all the construction going on!

    • A Google search of sydney & public transport & anzac day resulted in this:

"Travel on public transport is free for members and ex-members of the Australian Defence Force, this also includes their carers; and the spouses, children and grandchildren of deceased service personnel; and the spouses, children and grandchildren of living war veterans.

Free travel recipients are required to wear the Australian Defence Uniform; or display service medals; or carry a letter of accreditation on the letterhead of a branch of the RSL or other recognised ex-services organisation; or present a war widow’s gold card."

The MEL options is a good 15-20 min walk away - About 1.5-2 km . Street parting on and around St Kilda road will be free anyway on a public holiday as long as parking area refers to tickets being applicable on a specific day of the week .See below for the two councils policy's on street parking on public holidays.

Came here to say this - you might find closer free parking to the shrine on local streets, as long as you park in a spot where the sign specifies days of the week.

as some of our car parks cannot offer the free parking option if you drive up

*All car parks could simply open the gates, but some of our car parks see an opportunity to make extra money if you drive up.

But then all the people who were parked there before the day could drive out for free. Imagine how much they'd loose on someone who's been parked there for week while holidaying.

  • Twas only last year the City of Perth issued hundreds of $200 parking fines in Kings Park. A huge backlash reversed it.

  • Worked in Perth, just have to surrender your detts and a cc, $31 down to $0. Thanks OP, get free travel on train as a veteran but we wanted to go to dawn service this year so this will make it a lot easier
