Tiger Airways Sale (again)

280

Another Tiger Airways sale (if you dare). Some decent deals e.g. Mel-Bris $15.08 (Avalaon) and $21.98 (Tulla) - travel anytime between 19 May - 01 Sept. As usual cheapest flights are Mon-Thurs. Love them or hate them, it is still cheaper than the taxi from the City to the Airport.

I usually call Jetstar and get them to beat Tiger's fare by 10% - no credit card fees using this method too!

For those unfamiliar (this is OzBargain isnt it?) this will work for Jetstar flights on the same route within one hour either side of the cheaper flight - http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/what-we-offer/our-guarantees/pr…

Shame they don't seem to exist! I rarely find Tiger flights on their less frequent routes that are within an hour of a Jetstar flight.

Sorry, I should've mentioned I fly Melbourne-Sydney more regularly than any other route hence never have issues with finding cheap flights either side. Your point is certainly valid for those less frequent routes, perhaps a ploy by Jetstar to escape their own guarantee?

        • +1

That's exactly what I was thinking - even on the MEL-SYD route there only seems to be 1 flight a day that's "comparable".

I used this guarantee quite a bit last year and had no problems finding it - but now I'm struggling to find many at all.

    • do you get the price match if you call over the phone? or is there a phone fee as well?

      • +1

You have to call them to do a price beat - no phone booking fee or credit card fees, just the price of the cheaper fare less 10%

    • +1

Note that price matching must be done at least 72 hours before the scheduled flight

    What price human dignity?

    I would rather crawl.

I just got a price match with Jetstart on return flights from MEL (Tulla) to Brisbane… basically half price!

    BONUS :D

  • Why is MEL (Avalon) to BNE $39.95 for me? :(

    • depending on the day you choose, some days are cheap and have those specials but some don't. i'd advise you to keep trying to find another one that has the deal, as this is super cheap :D

  • sigh I hate how neither Jetstar OR Tiger fly to Canberra..

    • Tiger currently do Canberra - Melbourne (Tullamarine). Although perhaps that is not the route you're looking for.

Would be nice if Jetstar had some Canberra flights too, though.

      • Yeah but then you need to coordinate flights which is a real mess. Particularly with Tiger and the high risk of the flight being late.

Am I reading the fine print right?
The domestic fares can ONLY be purchased with a mastercard debit card, and international fares only with a Diners Club International card?

    • +1

yep… (well others incure a fee)

i've heard lots of bad things about them i even found lots of complaints on google and facebook , sounds scary to use them .
it's cheap however you can get a competitor to match their price and get a decent service.

I have flown tiger about5 times now and never had any issues. Seriously cannot beat $30 from Adelaide to Tulla. They don't have any spare planes so when something goes wrong they have to cancel flights but if it's not vital that you need to get to your destination on time and you're not a n00b and don't turn up late they're great.

Yeah Tiger are a bunch of shonks. You need to make sure you get to the airport and check in well ahead of the cut off time. Tiger are known to overbook their flights and as a flight fills up conveniently reduce the number of check in staff until the check-in deadline expires and some people are then told they are too late to check in and they have forfeited their fare…

      • +2

I use web check-in which resolves that issue completely, also means you don't have to stand in the cue for 5 years.

      • +1

I have found that they have improved lately and with web check-in (no bags) you can get there a bit later and avoid the queue (just make sure that if you buy a web check-in ticket that you remember to check-in on the web beforehand). Even if you have bags and are getting close to the cut-off check-in time just listen for their announcements, or ask, and you can usually jump the queue. I fly Tiger quite a bit and have only had one problem (cancelled flight). My logic now is: if you have somewhere (free) to stay at your destination (in case your return flight is ever cancelled - particularly where there is only one or two flights a day) then why not go Tiger. Unfortunately I have had no luck price-matching with Jetstar as my flights are over an hour difference.

I have friends who have received generous compensation on canceled returned flights (plenty enough to cover a hotel for the night)

flew with them over the weekend…. no probs in or outbound… web check in was fantastic…

I even managed a wry smile watching the early Sunday avalon/sydney jetstar flight get cancelled…..
