Gotta love the big supermarket chains duopoly in this country.

Even at half price, a lock step increase in 5kg Sunrice price by 18.5% in less than 6 months.

    Whether rice (or cotton for that matter) should be grown in certain regions of Australia due to the intensive water use is another argument.
    
    Whether water intensive or not, or grown in Australia or not, I have not seen any justification of a near 20% price increase based on agricultural cost increases, damage to crops with ensuing decreased supply or other usual reasons for rapid, marked agricultural price increases.
    
    Suspect that the growers have not received a matched 20% increase in the price they get for supplying it, rather the duopoly has an unspoken agreement to fix price increases in tandem however they like, due to the lack of any significant competition.
