Free Speed Boost for Existing Telstra Cable Customers (In NBN HFC Areas)

1970

Telstra has given a free speed boost to any existing or new Telstra cable customers.

I've gone from 55Mbps/5Mbps to 115Mbps/5Mbps. You may need to power cycle your modem for it to reflect.

Reports are stating that this Free Speed Upgrade may only apply to customers who are

  • Living in areas with NBN HFC rolled out / in construction
  • Living in areas with NBN but are unable to be migrated from Cable to HFC NBN due to technical limitations

I'm in an area that is ready to connect with FTTC and rebooted my Telstra cable modem and got the speedboost yesterday - went from ~56Mbps to ~110Mbps!

  • I'm on cable. NBN has been available since December 2018 but I haven't asked to be migrated. Just did a speed test in different parts of the house, 40 in some spots, 80 in others and was around 105 on my laptop close to the router whereas was previously getting around 55. I unplugged my modem on the weekend when I was moving some furniture around so that obviously rebooted it without me knowing.

    Good times.

  • Worked here in 4012. NBN HFC is scheduled to go live next month but definitely not active or available on my street yet.

Only did a reboot (not a power cycle) so could do it from my LAN.

  • Holy shit I got it. I just rebooted the modem and I now have 117Mbps down 5up and 10ms ping. Oh yeah

  • No difference for me, 40/5 in metro Adelaide

  • Thats a nice speed you have there telstra.

  • From 55 mbps to 80 mbps? Why not 115mbps?

I’m in Perth & I have Telstra cable & am also in no hurry to switch to the nbn.
After reading this thread, I decided to do a Speedtest.
I’ve gone from 56Mbps download to 114Mbps! And I did nothing. My upload has gone from 4 to 5Mbps.
    I’m happy 😊

there's no change to the upload speed. It was always 5mbps. If you were seeing less than 5 previously you'll still see less than 5 sometimes even now, depending on time of day (i.e. congestion).

Just got speed boost today after went to online chat, if you are in the zone and switch off modem does not work then talk to online team, they will be happy to provide it free for you. Mine just got upgraded today, it is 112Mbps, it rocks 4Gb movie in 5 mins

  • Telstra Cable in Carrara, QLD, 4211. NBN not going in for another year. Rebooted modem and went to 115 MB down 5 MB up.

  • Just worked for me in Melbourne. Rebooted modem, now 115 Mb down 5 Mb up. Thanks!!!

  • I'm currently sitting on 30/1 Telstra Velocity. It's bloody grotesque! I'm trapped on this estate too, the whole neighborhood is forced to use this subpar network. Why can't we get an upgrade like cable users? I'd die to have 5 mb/s upload.

So is this an April Fools joke of for real?

    • This is 100% real - I contacted Telstra via chat yesterday and they confirm that free speed boost has been applied to my account. It's perfect timing as I had a 'free' speed boost deal for the past 24 months (charged $20 and credited $20 in the same bill), which was coincidentally expiring this month so i would have been charged $20/mth moving forward.. Cheers for the heads up Op!

I am unsure though if Telstra just apply this to all cable customers? Or if you have to ask for it?

  • Just re-booted my modem. Speed increased! Thanks OP.

  • I have the speed boost since early April but the internet becomes unstable lately. The speed during the evening is unusable. We are in West Pennant Hills/ Cherrybrook area.
