OzBargain: Feature Suggestion: Sort by Upvotes

I'm wondering if we can have a sort by upvotes function when searching, in order to see what the prices have gone for before and when. I.e. highest upvotes would indicates best deals, and if we can sort by it, we can immediately determine how the current deal price compares with past deals.

Or.. should I just go and use price comparison websites for that?

Just a thought.

Comments

  • Agreed. We need something like this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/popular but with a search filter or the search function with a sort by most popular.

    • exactly this. just popular with search.

  • Great idea

It really is a Quantum leap of an idea ;).

The number of upvotes does not correlate to the quality of the bargain, only the scope of appeal.

For many, sorting by upvote is going to show a long list of deals they'd never be interested in.

Ozbargain is a journey that is to be savoured in the present. The prices of commodities fluctuate and what is considered cheap today may not be tomorrow. Vice versa.

If we don't stop and smell the flowers, nay, watch them bloom from the new page into the next Tesla runaway attraction, we're missing out.

A bargain I can miss but the experience? Never.

    • I wouldn't ever recommend that anyone has their feed to be sorted by upvotes, but rather use it to benchmark the current deal against past deals.

If I knew that something I want was at $300 before, and the current going price/deal is $350, I might be tempted to wait for that similar promotion, even if its black friday/boxing day kind of price.

I also want to know the best deal for a particular item I'm searching for.

Yes it's basically popular page, but for search.

      • Search function.

        • search function does not sort.

@lawyerz: Ah. I see what you're saying. Your title and OC is all over the place, dude.

Title - Suggestion - Add sort by upvotes to search function.

Body - so we can sort by upvotes.

Don't muddy your suggestion by also creating the conclusion that more upvotes = better deal, therefore, sort by upvotes = sort by better deal.

So… Some functions good. More functions better.

@[Deactivated]: hahahaha sorry sorry. Yes, exactly what you said. more function, only in search. Definitely NOT defaulting the wall by upvotes.

Yeah let's all have the eBay and CR deals posts at the top…

The problem with that proposal, as I see it, is that many of the OzB population do not vote (+ve or -ve).
Plenty of comments about if it is a good deal or not, but there appears to be a general reluctance to record a vote.

And, as tshow says above, part of the attraction of OzB for me is in the comments.

I'd say its not a clear cut. you look at the upvotes, I certainly read and add in the comments as well, it's brilliant.

But if I just wanted a quick way to see what's the best deal on a particular product, I have to manually look for past deals with the most upvotes.

It's not meant to replace anything, just compliment.

    • That actually pisses me off a little. People who use the site, enjoy the site, benefit from the site but just can't be arsed to throw a +ve.

It's worse than not voting in elections. At least in elections, one can claim they're not informed or not interested.

      This? Obviously informed and interested.

      • I generally don't vote positive for deals because this site makes me feel like my negative vote is not warranted nor wanted for those deals deserving of a negative. So, for a site that refuses to accept my negative input it certainly doesn't deserve my positive input.

Please dont call them upvotes, they are +ve.

      Here, have an upvote

u can only buy what deals are active. so if u think its a good price and u want an item. why would u want to depress your self everytime u buy something and check to see how much cheaper it once was?

  • +1 to idea.
