This is not a standard coffee cup, it's a stainless steel cup with a German Greblon ceramic coating on the inside. It has a very nice look and feel to it. Makes for a great gift as IMHO it's one of those things you might not buy for yourself but would enjoy using if someone gave it to you.

The rest of us can buy a Keep Cup or a Rivers cup. :)

This is 230ml, about the size of a small takeaway coffee

  • $30 for a keep cup is pretty steep

    • -1

I see it as the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy of coffee cups. It can be hard to get yourself to pay that much for one, but if someone gives one to you, you'll be glad to use it. Or if you're one of those people who happily pay $1,700 for a phone, you probably won't bat an eyelid at $29.95 for a coffee cup. :)

      • Steep is steep. Nothing related to 1700 phone or 170000 car

        • +2

Everything is relative. To someone earning a high salary, a $1700 iPhone is an easy purchase even though a $400 Pocophone or $900 S9 does just about the same thing. But they'd happily pay the extra money for the iPhone's design or build - it doesn't make a dent in their wallet at all.

To that same person, a $29.95 coffee cup is pocket change. They might like the design and build of the steel-and-ceramic Sttoke so would happily pay the $15 premium over a plastic KeepCup.

Would you consider $155 for two toothbrushes steep? :)

          • @eug:

Would you consider $155 for two toothbrushes steep? :)

Why would you consider that expensive, it costs $155 to plant your arse in the dentists chair.

            • @Maverick-au: How much cleaner do your teeth get compared to a $35 one?

              • @eug:

How much cleaner do your teeth get compared to a $35 one?

For a start it's $155 for two so it a $77.50 one and it has features like a pressure sensor, timed zones etc. So yes I would spend more to get features that can save you thousands of dollars and a lot of pain at the dentist to correct things like damaged gums.

                • @Maverick-au:

Are you saying anyone who doesn't use this $77 toothbrush will damage their gums and spend thousands of dollars and experience a lot of pain at the dentist?

If that was the case, then a $77 toothbrush is not "steep".

However I do believe there are millions of people around the world who do not own a $77 toothbrush and have perfectly healthy teeth and gums. So unless you have a specific need for the features that comes with it, I would consider $77 for a toothbrush "steep".

                • @Maverick-au: my dentist disagrees, he reckons they're a crock & the $2 colgate manual toothbrush is just as good, actually he no, the manual toothbrushes are better because the people who use them actually brush their teeth properly.

personally I think it's because manual tothbrushers are more likely to drink flouridated tap water.

back on topic, $30 for a coffee cup?

Yup. It's like paying $1700 for a phone when there are $150 phones around. To some people that's absolutely ridiculous, to others it's mere pocket change.

you can get 40 of these https://www.kmart.com.au/product/white-mug/126561

I don't think you get the concept of these reusable coffee cups. On your way to work you stop by your coffee place, they fill up your reusable takeaway cup, and you bring it with you as you walk/bus/train to work. That would not work with your 75c ceramic mug.

                    or 20 for these https://www.kmart.com.au/product/white-mug/126561

                    That's the same mug.

It's an analogy. Nobody is comparing a coffee cup to a phone/car/toothbrush.

you're right, I prefer tea. I take my 75c kmart cup with me and some tea bags.
or a double walled mug with lid if I need to drink on the go.

I am puzzled by the idea of keep cups. why not use much cheaper travel mugs or a 75c coffee cup?

                      • @[Deactivated]:

I prefer tea too, I use a $2.30 double-walled glass Arcosteel cup instead. It's really fragile though, one of mine broke and another one had its sealing plug fall off.

why not use much cheaper travel mugs

I don't like the design of cheap travel mugs and I can afford a $19 mug, so I just bought the Rivers one from the other deal. If this was a little larger I would consider it as I do like the design and ceramic coating, but I'll probably be quite happy with the Rivers one so I'm giving it a miss myself.

                        or a 75c coffee cup?

As mentioned earlier, you can't carry an open coffee cup on a train, bus, or while walking.

                        • @eug: But kmart have one for $1.50

Plenty of good sub $10 travel mugs. Again i don't understand the $10+ keep cups?

I can't understand how a $30 cup which you can't put in the dishwasher is anyway a bargain?

Its an overpriced wankery item at best

Again i don't understand the $10+ keep cups?

Not everything has to be made with you in mind. There are $2,000 iPhones on the market and plenty of people are buying them. You don't have to understand why, but it would be good if you can accept that a $30 cup or a $2,000 phone can be mere pocket change to some people, and they will happily pay for a design that they like.

I can't understand how a $30 cup which you can't put in the dishwasher is anyway a bargain?

It's because it looks like are missing the meaning of a bargain. You vote based on the savings. What you're doing is the equivalent of negging a cheap iPhone deal because a Pocophone is cheaper. They are different products with different markets.

Do read the voting guidelines. You should not neg just because you don't like the item. This deal seemingly does not apply to you, so you should just ignore it and not vote.

                            • @eug: No it's not a bargain. Just because an overpriced product has dropped in price, it's still an overpriced product, as such it's not a bargain.

In this instance, you can get better products for 1/4 - 1/10th of the price.

And i have no idea why you keep trying to relate it to a $2000 phone? At least a $2000 phone has extra features that make it better then a $500 phone. This cup is smaller and has to be washed by hand, it's actually inferior to other products which are a fraction of the price. So no i don't accept your inept comparison. I do accept people buy overpriced things because they look good. But it doesn't make them a bargain.

OK, if you don't get the analogy, look at the $815 ThinkPad E490 and the $1279 XPS13. The ThinkPad has a faster processor, will not dent if you drop it, and costs $464 less - but many people would happily pay the extra money for the XPS's nicer design and material.

Likewise, even though you can get an $8 travel mug, some people would happily pay $30 for a cup that has a nicer design and a ceramic coating on the inside. Life isn't about buying the absolute cheapest item all the time, and plenty of people can easily afford a $30 mug without putting a dent in their wallet.

So no i don't accept your inept comparison.

That's OK, you don't have to accept it. It would help if you understand that people are different to you though, and that your definition of a bargain can differ to somebody elses.

Yeah but I found the keep cup plastic degrades after a while / with cleaning so I'm willing to pay more for something that will last ..

      $30 and 230ml though ? Psssh

yeah just goto 7-11, get your few coffe, chuck the contents & use the cup a few times. it's free!

  • Love the style, just way too small for my liking.

You sounds like my Tinder date last night

  • does it auto clean itself or i still gotta wash it ?

I have one of these (I do enjoy a bit of w*nk when it comes to coffee) but honestly I regret buying it. It is way too fragile, explicitly advises against putting it through the dishwasher (I do it anyway, FTP), and it's almost impossible to clean under the little tab on the lid. It feels like this travel mug needs it's own travel case! There are better options out there IMO.

Edit: Also there's a hard to see max fill line inside and if you (or the unsuspecting barista you've handed it to) overfill it, putting the lid on will cause hot milk to squirt into the air, sometimes even up to 30cm high! You almost need eye protection to fill this thing. Fk knows how it won that good design award. They probably never used the thing.

  • $30 for the cup is good, but $10 p&h is too costly…

    • Well, turns out the FREESHIP code works on the House website. It's 29.95 delivered now. Thanks SkyzoR!

I managed to find a free shipping code for the House website! I was hesitant to buy it due to the $10 p&h too.
    Code: FREESHIP

    • Thanks, will update the post! Didn't realise that code was active again.

My keep cup is about 6 years old. Still going strong. Use it daily. Gen 1

  • Reusable is So smelly

    • +1

The idea of the ceramic nonstick coating is to avoid it going smelly or making your drink taste weird. I've never tried it myself but people seem to say it works.

      • Very interesting, shame it’s bit too expensive to give it a try and test it .

  • oh I have one of these. I love them, they keep the coffee really warm/hot for like an hour, which is heaps longer than my keepcup which is cold by the time i walk back from the shop.

If you're the kind who wants to enjoy your coffee over an hour not 5 minutes, they really do work.

HOWEVER, cleaning is a pain. Unlike keepcup, none of the components are designed to be removed entirely, so cleaning nooks and cranny are difficult (the cap mostly).

The cap is dishwashable, body is not.

    Paid $39.95 full price.

This is a disappointing cup. 1. It isn't 100% leak proof. Small Size. If you use a steel spoon it will scratch the ceramic coating. The black finish will scratch off if you don't take care of it. The sliding lid builds up some left over milk. Needs to be cleaned carefully to remove that. Apart from that it looks good. For $30 its better than $40.

  • Pretty commendable effort selling this OP; nearly had me but even at $30 I'm still too stingy, but if I ever have something to promote here or elsewhere I'd want you promoting it for sure.

    • I couldn't even convince myself. I bought some as presents but I couldn't get myself to buy one for … myself.

But seeing that there is a market for a $2,000 phone, there'd probably be a number of people interested in this $30 cup. Not everything has to be made to suit everyone's budget. :)

  • +1

Thanks OP, been needing a very high quality travel cup that is not frickin' gigantic - this is perfect!
